The Band AMERICA had underated Riffs, being "soft rock"
50 years later, I'm impressed with their songs holding up.
Riffs especially, intros.
Tin Man .....the memorable bass DA ..DA!! downroll.
Lonely People .....sounds country, but yep, it's another bass riff intro.
Others?

How does someone actually decide to name their band "America".

Great band, 12 records of original material from 71-84. There's something about that 70's stuff that hits different & America is a prime example of it.
Re: The Band AMERICA had underated Riffs, being "soft rock"
I've only heard "A Horse with No Name," and it sucked -BIGLY!

I still wonder what the hell an "abandoned hurricane" is.
That was probably ketchup on his ear.

Yeah, they had plenty of good yacht rock/"AM Gold"-type soft rock tunes. "Tin Man" is another good one of theirs.

No denying it was catchy. This band had memorable lyrics.
Horse with no name .....in the desert, you can't remember your name ...
There were plants and birds and rocks and things....

I saw them last month. This was apparently their first batch of shows since before the pandemic. They sounded great, albeit with just one of the founding members. They did play You can Do Magic, which is my favorite track from them.

When I was a little kid, my great-grandmother had a beach house (on the fucking sand, stilts and all) on the Ventura/Oxnard border. When we'd drive up the Ventura Fwy to go there on a weekly basis in the summer that song was always on the radio, so I kinda assumed it was written just for us.Hellsinkey wrote: ↑Mon Sep 02, 2024 8:07 pmAgreed, great riff and their best song.Olivia Sophia wrote: ↑Sun Sep 01, 2024 4:41 pm I forgot their best riff.

Ok, well, don't take offense.mullet_head wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2024 5:58 amSame here. I actually gave some of the songs listed here a listen, and guess what - they suck - BIGLY!
''Soft rock''... more like soft shite.
But you're a metalhead who can't appreciate melodies.
You need a clanging thrash of incoherent sound to satisfy your musical"""""" tastes.
You probably also hate the '''acoustic'''' bob Dylan.
And wear Pantera t shirts

If you guys love that, you have to check out Lana Del Rey. Almost every single song is about beaches, Ventura, sun, California, old Mustangs. With just a dash of melancholy, heroin, and sex.Olivia Sophia wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2024 6:43 amGreat memory.sirthx2 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2024 6:36 amWhen I was a little kid, my great-grandmother had a beach house (on the fucking sand, stilts and all) on the Ventura/Oxnard border. I googled Dan peek. He sang the high tenor harmonies. Also wrote Lonely People.
