Favorite 2024 releases / most anticipated of 2025

Post by Hair I Go Again »

I know 2024 still has a month left to go, but since there's nothing new that I care about due to be released before year's end, I figured I'd go ahead and pull the trigger.

WIN - Eclipse, "Megalomanium II." Sweden FTW once again this year. Of the five video singles, I think I liked this one the best: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jt9YU2wfB2U

PLACE - Kissin' Dynamite, "Back With A Bang." I'd always been on the fence about this band, but they nailed it this time around. This might be my favorite single of the year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpmpzL3yAeA

SHOW - Massive Wagons, "Earth To Grace." Still getting to know the record and not sure yet if I like it better than "Triggered," but it's been my most-played album for the past month, which says a lot. Of the video singles, this was my fave -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnOim6GyR50

Honorable mention goes to Crazy Lixx, who released five new songs over the course of the year, but whose new album doesn't come out until February. Other 2025 releases I'm looking forward to:

Don't merge an end of the year list with a most anticipated list.

Absolutely nothing other than re-releases

The fish (ex marillion singer) deluxe boasts of his first two albums were superb.

2024 had nothing else, 2025 even less.

Rock is dead.

Hey

Yeah I got autocorrected ‘boxes’ became ‘boasts’ but you knew what I meant

Well Vigil is a great album anyway but the box includes b-sides , live bootleg, and a book of extensive writing about it all and photos from the man himself. Lots of good stuff in one place and I didn’t have it on CD already.

The second album is vastly improved with a better mix, new track list with the b-side ‘poets moon’ now included, and amongst the extras is the duet with Sam brown version of ‘just good friends’ which is the best version imho. Again, book containing extensive essay and photos, and a live bootleg album.

I’m not sure if there is blu ray content like the marillikn reissued but I don’t have a player yet so I can’t yet access it if there is . Still on dvd 😂 20 years behind the curve

"New" albums I bought in 2024:

Bon Jovi "Forever" - decent. I liked the previous non-Sambora albums more.
Deep Purple "=1" - good, quite impressive.
Coldplay "Moon Music" - good. Even if it's not one of their best.

All the other stuff was old shit or some "recent" releases like the Jazz Sabbath...

not much from 2024 impressed me.

a few exceptions:

The Black Crowes/"Happiness Bastards"
Kerry King/"From Hell I Rise"
Vain/"Disintegrate Together"

at the top of the list:

D-A-D/"Speed Of Darkness"

Nothing anymore.

All the "big band"'s albums have sucked after the millenium. It's because all the good producers are dead already and the players don't know shit about how their album should sound or pick up the best songs of the bunch.

Not interested in the music of the youngsters neither.

Luckily there is still much to dig and find out from the 80's and 90's. Fuck the music after that.

I thought “Poet’s Moon” could have actually gotten somewhere commercially. That and “Shadowplay” are probably my favorites from Internal Exile. Thanks for your info re: those boxed sets. I’ll definitely check them out and unless they are $100 I’ll buy them. I got to see fish in Boston supporting Sunsets on Empire in 1997. I saw Marillion in Boston in 93 supporting Holidays in Eden. I lost interest in Los Marillos pretty much after Radiation. I’ve heard a few records since, but they are too lengthy and keyboard driven.

You’re welcome and I agree their newer stuff gets boring over a full album although most have 1 or 2 great tracks.

Poets Moon is great , according to Fish’s sleeve notes it was recorded after everything else and missed the deadline to be on the album. Remedied that now though.

The first 2 Fish solo and first two Marillion without Fish are all class.

Seasons End and Holidays in Eden are gems.

There’s a live version of Holidays and also a ‘live at port Zelande’ set from a couple of years ago where they just play from those albums even bsides like Bell in the Sea (another bside that could’ve should’ve been Aside or at least on the album)

Kane Brown, Canaan Smith, Kameron Marlowe, Kip Moore, Warren Zeiders, Mo Pitney, and although they haven't announced release dates... Chase Rice, HARDY (Live From Red Rocks), Muscadine Bloodline, Parker McCollum, and BROOKS AND DUNN'S FIRST NEW MATERIAL IN ALMOST 20 YEARS!

I know LAglamrocker is equally as excited for new Kip Moore music!
