If Nuno Had Taken The Ozzy Gig In '95...
I'm sure you've all heard Nuno's story about being offered the Ozzy gig in '95. How do you think he would've done with Ozzy? He obviously rips on the old stuff, but what kind of original material do you think he would've brought to the table? Would he have adapted to Ozzy's more gothic style or would he have tried to get Ozzy to go in a funkier direction? He does a killer version of Diary Of A Madman!
I think it's a real shame that Nuno didn't take the gig. Joe Holmes didn't produce shit when he was with Ozzy. They had that Walk On Water song that was fair, but I believe that is all Joe Joe contributed to Ozzy. In an alternate reality I would've been very curious to hear what Lynch would've been like with Ozzy in '83 (although I think Jake worked out great) as well as Nuno in '95.

I wish Nuno had fought harder to keep Extreme together and maybe this could have been avoided.

Literally anyone would have been better than Joe Holmes. I still don't understand how he got the gig, unless he just happened to be the person that was around when Sharon wanted Zakk to fuck off.

Well wasn't Vai in the picture somewhere too? After that fell apart Holmes was probably who was left.Anthrax442 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 07, 2025 5:44 amLiterally anyone would have been better than Joe Holmes. I don't know man. Nuno is a master but, like Vai, I really don't think he would have been a good fit. Especially in the grunge era. But I guess anything would have been more interesting than the alternative.... the Holmes era was ass.
Richie Kotzen says he was hired in '94 to play for Ozzy and do Ozzmosis, but they changed their minds out of fear hiring a Poison guy would hurt his brand. Kotzen's super blusey minor key riffing I think might have been cool.

Sammy Hagar is full of shit that he rivals Donald Trump for the crown. But he wasn't lying about Ray Danniels being a snake. Probably would have still happened.

I either didn't know or didn't remember about Kotzen. (Here's a story with more -- https://bravewords.com/news/richie-kotz ... ol-thread/)
He's one of my favorite guitarists, but he's not the kind of guy who plays others' solos note-for-note. I think he was closer to the mark with Paul Gilbert than with C.C., but on Poison's "Seven Days Live," C.C.'s solos are unrecognizable. I think Rhodes and Iommi purists would have torn him apart.
Interesting that he says having Poison on his resume cost him gigs with both Ozzy and NIN.

Banging the drummers fiancee probably didn't help either.

Richie has been pretty candid over the years that he had zero respect for Poison at the time, and didn't bother to learn the solos to the songs before his audition. He had a massive ego and surely he thought CC sucked and (wrongly) thought he could improve on the solos.Hair I Go Again wrote: ↑Mon Jul 07, 2025 8:55 am I either didn't know or didn't remember about Kotzen. I doubt he would have approached the RR/Iommi stuff with the same attitude.

I hate people like that. I am not sure that he wouldn't do the same with the RR/Ionmi stuff, it might be less about the respect of Poison and more about his ego.
After all it takes a huge ego to walk into a huge band and just not learn the solos because you think they suck and then fuck the drummers fiance. The dude just sounds like a douche overall.
