Re: Jimmy Kimmel suspended indefinitely
Still trying to figure out why he was cancelled. Oh well . . .
Oh, and please don't be hurt or surprised if someone decides to cancel Metal Sludge, or any other site that allows you to talk shit anonymously, because, ya know, that's kinda where we are all headed.

He deserves it.
No one is stopping Kimmel from free speech, he can say whatever he wants and did … no arrest, no jail time, no bullet to the neck and even though he’s off the air for awhile he’s still free to say anything he wants.
Not really. In fact that’s a pretty ignorant comment.
So Nextstar is “offended” and are awaiting approval from the FCC on a merger. Smells like a quid pro quo. Cancel on local network. FCC jumps on it. FCC chair who is behind project 2025 loves this. And praises networks for doing this.
Follow the money. This merger will certainly go through now.
Lastly, did you even hear what Kimmel said? No jokes about it. He stated the right is doing anything to paint this guy as someone on “the other side”. Not a joke. Just the sad reality.
Maybe do some research before being so narrow minded.
Trump and the right are more woke and pro cancel culture now than ever before.
Imagine how supportive the right would be if a political speaker on the far left was killed.

We don't have to imagine. It was just a few months ago and someone on the right went on to say that her and her husbands killer should be bailed out of jail.

To be fair, even the most staunch Democrats are also tired of Kimmel's "broken record" shtick/routine of incessant Trump bashing...........

Politics has always been part of late-night, stand-up, and entertainment. Everyone has been made fun of. Trump's scripts just keep writing themselves. As far as what Kimmel said about Kirk, nothing was disparaging in the comment.

Back in July, after Colbert was cancelled, Trump said Kimmel was next.Hatchets Molly wrote: ↑Thu Sep 18, 2025 5:27 am Politics has always been part of late-night, stand-up, and entertainment. They are just using Kirk's death as an excuse to get rid of him.

Not sure what you're arguing here. I mean, yeah, he also joked about how Trump was mourning the way a kid mourns a goldfish or something like that.cowpins wrote: ↑Thu Sep 18, 2025 2:18 amDid you watch the entire clip? He didn't talk shit about Kirk, and didn't lie. Him getting pulled off the air is insane. Trump has said more offensive things in his sleep.

He didn't lie. There's factual basis that the shooter stems from the far-right, Nick Fuentes styled thinking, and yet all the Maga types are trying to paint him as someone on the left, so that they don't have to take accountability for their own, and create a boogeyman at the same time.
Nevermind the whole giant merger undertones where the companies are trying to score points with the FCC.
This is nothing, and yet they're going to make Kimmel beg to get back on the air, which they WILL allow, because they see how bad this looks from a free speech point of view.

Late night has been a problem for all the networks in the past few years, and Kimmel's contract was about to be up. ABC and CBS will gladly kill 2 birds with one stone: Appease Trump/FCC and kill off late night programming (that they were planning on doing anyway).
And "seeing how bad this looks from a free speech point of view" requires a self-awareness that this administration doesn't have.

Re: Jimmy Kimmel suspended indefinitely
Kimmel's getting paid either way and I'm sure after 20 years, he's got a massive payout coming to him. Anyone who thinks he's been "pwned" is delusional.
Also, like with Charlie Kirk, making him a victim just amplifies whatever message he had. Had he been left alone with his "low ratings, super low ratings, the lowest we've ever seen," nobody would've cared. I would have never known what he said about Kirk had this never happened.

The administration, sure, but when Tucker Carlson is calling you out, it's clear there's problems with your approach.Tenacious_Dio wrote: ↑Thu Sep 18, 2025 7:12 amNah.Anthrax442 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 18, 2025 7:04 am This is nothing, and yet they're going to make Kimmel beg to get back on the air, which they WILL allow, because they see how bad this looks from a free speech point of view.

Maybe they will use this to kill it off, like they did with Colbert, but the last article I read stated that the ABC execs "see a path to the show's return" after further discussions with the station owner. I don't think they'd say that unless they do plan on bringing it back after some groveling and concessions.
But who knows, that assumes that Kimmel would even want to come back. If they hadn't given him a giant bag of money, he was ready to be done when his last contract ran out.

I just canceled Hulu which I only watched like every 6 months anyway.
The only time I ever saw the show was on the back lot jumbotrons waiting for a band to go on.

I always found it annoying when liberals repeated this tired line. It's just as lame now that conservatives are suddenly parroting it too.
Kimmel said nothing bad about Kirk. He actually posted a very sympathetic message to his family. He didn't even say anything directly about the shooter. He only addressed MAGA in that monologue and conservatives can't handle a mirror being held up in front of them.

Might want to check your definitions.
Cancel culture is when the people group up against a certain person, entity, etc.
Authoritarianism is when the government dictates what you can and cant say.
If you cant tell the difference, that's not good.

He didn't need to be canceled. His show already had low ratings. He's been looking to see what's next for him for a while now.

I agree that Kimmel's [well deserved] Trump-bashing was a bit much at times, but I'll take that over the alternative of nobody being able to say anything negative.Wild Obsession wrote: ↑Thu Sep 18, 2025 5:00 am To be fair, even the most staunch Democrats are also tired of Kimmel's "broken record" shtick/routine of incessant Trump bashing...........
In no way did what he said justify him being taken off the air. How anyone can look at what happened and say "I'm ok with it because I'm on the other side" is beyond me.

If you can't see that the whole problem here is that we are now experiencing government-sanctioned "cancel culture", that's even worse.KNACRob wrote: ↑Thu Sep 18, 2025 10:22 amCancel culture?aerozeppelin wrote: ↑Wed Sep 17, 2025 4:18 pmSo be clear, you're actually pro-cancel culture, anti-freedom of speech?

If you believe the left created it, I have a bridge for sale. Both sides have used it at their convenience. And LMFAO was a shitty band. Who canceled Kathy Griffin? Budweiser? Colin Kapernick? I don't have enough time or keystrokes. I'd say it's been used equally. Fuck, Trump tried to cancel 5 youths who were innocent to actual death long before his political performance career.parasite74 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 18, 2025 11:55 am The same "cancel culture" that the left created is now being used against them. Re: Jimmy Kimmel suspended indefinitely
They're just doing all the shit Charlie Kirk claimed he was against. He claimed to be for free speech, didn't believe hate speech was a thing, and his whole brand was centered around debate.
Like if someone popped Stern, and then the FCC put pressure on affiliates to cancel another show in his honor, it would be pretty weird if I then became a cheerleader for the FCC. Bootlicking censors would be an incredibly odd way of celebrating his legacy.

Maybe if Trump didn't want to be made fun of at best or hated at worst he shouldn't have been a fucking shifty greedy child raping cunt with shit hair! It was a choice at one point NOT to be that.
I'd say fucking man up and admit to what you did but he can't even laugh at himself.

Trump said today he wants to take away broadcast licenses for "bad press." So if the news reports that 300 million Americans didn't die of drug overdoses last year (U.S. pop. is 340 million), that would be "bad press" for Trump because he said that happened.
