Marlins get Nick Johnson from the Nats. He was a Fish killer too, nice to have him on our side. His OBS isn't bad either.

Fuck sigs.
Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
Angels score six runs in the top of the 11th to beat the Twins. This offense is really gelling, and it is doing it without Torii Hunter and Vlad. I'm actually kind of afraid for Vlad to come back, because Scioscia will insist on using him as DH and will insist on sticking him in the cleanup spot.

Yeah, something like that usually fucks with a team.tin00can wrote:Angels score six runs in the top of the 11th to beat the Twins. The Angels are playing some wicked ball right now. Both LA teams are, especially with LAD's addition of Sherill.

The things with the Angels is, right now we have ONE good starting pitcher - Lackey - and everybody else sucks balls. Santana is back to being a headcase and has an ERA around 8.00, Saunders had two good months to start the season and then turned into a pussy, Weaver has been weak for about a month now...fortunately, our scrubs - Palmer, Sean O'Sullivan - are doing decent in the #5 spot.
Fuck the Dodgers. Let's see if they throw syringes on the field - a la when Bonds was still playing a few years ago - for Mannywood, who has twice been proven to be roiding. Yeah, I hate the Dodgers because they are playing very well. I hate them a lot less when they suck.

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
Over at nyyfans.com there's a thread about what to chant at MFY Stadium for the upcoming series.
They got "1918" and "One Year Ban". 1918 screams sore losers, I mean get over it already. It's awesome when you consider they beat a team loaded with Aroid, Sheffroid, HGHiambi.
"One Year Ban" is pretty fucking funny though.

Angels update, for those who care:
Kendry Morales is mashing the ball and has made douche-faced Teixeira nothing more than a memory. Kid has something going right now and is (hopefully) only getting started. Gitmo is getting it done!
Mike Napoli is a fucking beast. His last three HRs have come late in the game to tie the score; dude is developing some clutch. I have a man-crush on him like crazy. In a year or so everybody should know his name, dude is that exciting.
Among all AL LFs with at least 300 plate appearances, Juan Rivera leads the league in OPS. $3.25 million this year, 4.25 next year, and 5.25 in 2011. Dude is having exactly the year I hoped he would, and I get excited whenever he comes to bat.
Bobby Abreu is on a one-year, $5 million contract. His power is down somewhat this year, but his impact on the Angels lineup has been noticeable. He's a steal at this price.
Two fricking outstanding free-agent signings for the Angels this year. It will be interesting in the off-season, with Abreu, Vlad, Figgins and Lackey all free agents. I think Vlad is as good as gone and the big push will be to re-sign Figgins. He has developed into a plus-fielding 3B and an excellent leadoff hitter. I'd love to see Lackey, Figgy and Abreu back on the team next year but my head tells me Lackey will be in Texas and Abreu will probably be somewhere else.
This team has something good going this year. Starting pitching will probably be the downfall if they get to the playoffs, but right now they are pretty damn fun to watch.

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
My analysis of the Cubs/Fish game, was too tired last night.
~Ima give Cantu a pass for those errors, as it's his first time at since last season, and it's gonna take him a few days to adjust. Mr. TVJ and I were talking about that on the drive down, that he may commit a few errors. He should be fine.
~Welcome to South Florida, Nick Johnson!
He had an incredible game.
~Carlos was all over the place for the short time he was in there. Hopper just flat out sucked, I much prefer him in the bullpen where he's more effective.
~I've about had it with Hermida and Uggla. Hermida came up with the bases loaded TWICE, and choked both times. Uggla was just terrible.
~The team needs to go back to Baseball 101 and refer to SITUATIONAL HITTING. 13 guys LOB is bullshit.
~Bonifacio was HUGE last night after coming in when Hanley got plunked. The triple in the 9th was fucking amazing!
~Leo Nunez has no business closing games. He's pitched in more games and more innings than he has in his entire career, and I think he's getting tired out. Brendan Donnelly would be perfect, imo. But the bullpen did an EXCELLENT job.
~This was just a FUN game to be at, everyone was having a good time. Extreme highs and extreme lows for both Cubs and Fish fans.

On Tin's Angels post...
I think I was telling PKOS to watch for Juan Rivera this year... he's terrific but always hurt. Abreu was a great signing and I'm still stupified as to why the Cubs chose not to sign him but to go after Milton Bradley. Enjoy that one, Wrigley.
I gotta agree that Vlad will go somewhere else and DH - his value will take such a hit after the past 2 years that he might wind up somewhere like KC on a low contract. None of the contenders really have a hole at DH... actually, now that I think about it, with Matsui leaving, the Yankees could consider him. Oy, I hope not. 5 years too late.
They had better re-sign Lackey, or else that pitching staff isn't going to be too hot. Santana is an enigma, Escobar's been hurt. I still think Saunders sucks, and Weaver is all right. That won't be enough.
On TVJ's Marlins post...
I don't know that grabbing the 'Stache is going to be enough for the Marlins to make a serious playoff push, but I guess it's worth trying since the Mets suck and the Phillies failed to land Halladay. Getting him helps the team in that they can put Bonifacio's terrible ass on the bench and use him as a pinch runner. The defense takes a hit with Cantu at 3B, but the lineup is sooo much better.
And I've always thought Hermida was overrated and sucks. Though I'm sort of surprised as to why they didn't trade Uggla when his value was so high after last year.

This Sox game is crazy. 7-0, then 7-6, now 14-6 and it's only the 4th inning.
Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
Two more HRs for Morales today. Fuck yeah. 35 runs for the Angels in a three game series at the Metrodome, the last time they visit there. What a way to close it out. In the 15 games since the ASB the Angels are averaging 7.6 runs per game.
7.6. This is insane.

Un.Fucking.Real. And I thought last night was crazy.
After going down 2-1 in the top of the 9th, The Fighting Fish come back and hit back to back HRs in the bottom of the 9th to win 3-2. Dan Uggla and Cody Ross...and Cody went yard for our first run as well. And he was OUTSTANDING in the field. Cody Ross is a God among men.
Marlins fans <3 Kevin Gregg!
Fucking awesome series.

Motherfucker.
The day I don't get to see any baseball whatsoever, all this shit happens. It's been a rough fucking week.
First, it comes out that Boston is just as fucking filled with cheaters as everyone else. Then all these great games happen today and I miss all of them.
I hate everybody.

Yankees have not defeated the sox yet in '09.
Joba will be pitching(or beaning youk) to the sox.
smoltz makes his 1st appearance vs The Empire
ortiz is on the PED list. A capacity crowd chanting his hame in a negative fashion will be worth the price of admission.

The Dodgers just announced another Manny bobblehead night to commemorate his "historic" home run after his return from a 50-game suspension for violating the league rules on PEDs. I am not making this up.

LA is "Mannywood" now. He's their superstar. Deposeta has always had a hard-on for Red Sox players, plus didn't their attendance like triple when he was traded for? I know the first bobblehead night Manny hit a pinch-hit GS.
I don't see any other way they could do it personally. Plus I don't think the fans cared his suspension cost him 50 games from the team. The only venom I read about it coming from LA was Bill Simmons.
If you have that mentality filling the seats, it's time to cash in.
Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
Yankees defeated doc last night in Canada.
The sox made a mistake by pitching to longoria in the 13th inning.
relief pitcher mota from the dodgers was up to his antics once again.
This is the same clown that drilled piazza in ST two consecutive
seasons back in 02, 03???
last night mota took it upon himself to protect manny(who was drilled) by plunking fielder in the leg.
after the game fielder tried hard to enter the dodgers clubhouse to confront mota.

padres released prior.
is he done for good? 2 shoulder surgeries since April '07.
in '02 he threw 116 innings, 19 starts
in '03 he threw 211 innings, 30 starts
there is so much debate about protecting young prospects, watching there innings pitched, etc.....

I always would cuss at Dusty Baker ( whom I still consider the worst manager in Baseball history. Yes, I remember Little. Yes, I know about piece of shit Zimmer ), I blamed him for burning out both Prior and Wood.
Dusty is one of those old school guys that doesn't understand....well anything really.
The problem with the blame in this situation. Is if you looked at Prior's delivery, which was insanely violent. He didn't really have a long shelf life to begin with.
I didn't observe that on my own. It was pointed out to me by an aquaintance who used to work as an official scorer for MLB in the late 70s early 80s. When told of the observation, I looked at old videos ( like his 20 strikeout game ) and could see the assertion.
That in itself is kinda a rhetorical arguement though. Some pitchers ( ones with high leg kicks ) flame out early for example. Since it's hard to always repeat the delivery. Think Dontrelle Willis. Or ( hopefully he doesn't, because he's a pleasure to watch ) Tim Lincecum.
On the flip side. Team's that coddle their pitchers and change their deliveries for their protection, doesn't always seem to work. Think the Mighty Red Sox. For example, this season they've changed Pappelbon's arm slot, to take the pressure of his shoulder which has messed with him already. This season, while he's still really good. He's been more hittable than what were used to seeing when he took over the closer's role.
Also remember Cla Meredith. When he was traded to San Diego in the ill-fated Mirabelli trade. Cla was away from the training staff that were trying to teach him to not pitch inside for whatever reason. He went from a potentially serviceable AAA guy, who didn't do too terribly well on his call-ups. To a dominant reliever. He's still above league average. Let's not even bring up Dice K's problem with Farrell, etc.
So do you blame the coaches, trainers, body type? What? This is one of the hot topics of team farm systems. It's the old school vs. new school.
I don't have the answer. Although I think Prior is done and Dusty Baker still sucks.
Let's go Mighty Red Sox!

Mets will pick him up. He'll promptly break his pitching arm shortly thereafter. The Mets will announce him as day to day for about a month before putting him on the 15 day DL.killeverything wrote:Although I think Prior is done
Niese is the latest Met to go down, tearing his hamstring covering 1st. He joins Reyes, Delgado, Beltran, Maine, Putz, Wagner, Nieve, and FMart on the DL. It's sad when your DL roster is better, and deeper, than your active roster.
Castillo almost joined the list last night tripping over a glove in the dugout!

1st the guy hurts his hammie at 1st base then he is allowed to take a warm up pitch and the guy takes a violent fall on the mound.
ESPN said he tore the tendon, off the bone.....

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP)—The Oakland Athletics have released struggling Jason Giambi(notes), cutting short the slugger’s second stint with his first major league club.
The A’s announced the move Friday. The 38-year-old first baseman had returned to Oakland this season after seven years with the New York Yankees.
Giambi, the 2000 AL MVP, has been on the disabled list since July 20 with a strained right quadriceps muscle. His legs have been bothering him for months.
A five-time AL All-Star, Giambi was batting just .193—lowest in the majors when he went on the DL. He has 11 home runs and 40 RBIs in 83 games.
When he was placed on the DL, general manager Billy Beane and manager Bob Geren said a break might help him.

Although like Andy Marte, if Atlanta ever cuts tie with someone. It's best if you don't take a chance on them. Schuerholz is fucking brilliant when it comes to player evaluation.
Beckett and Burnett have provided the pitcher's duel I was hoping. This is what I wanted to see with a potential Schilling/Johnson matchup we never got.
Oh well. Top of the 9th zero-zero.
