Re: The official NHL thread
Buy out's work out like this:
- Team pays 2/3 of remaining monies owed on balance of contract
- Team can spread the payments over twice the remaining length of the contract
- Example: Player A signed a 3-year, 9 million contract. Team wants to buy him out after year 1. $ owed = $6 million; 2/3 of that = $ 4 million; term left = 2 years; double the term = 4 years. So they owe him $4 million over 4 years, or a $1 million a year cap hit
- This is why you see front loaded contracts. Guys making $10 million year 1, 8 million years 2, and down to $1 million a year in years 8, 9, and 10 of contracts. It makes a buyout easier at the end, as less money is owed, and it also lessens the cap hit throughout the length of the deal.

A big FUCK YOU to the Toronto Maple Leafs this morning. As if the Bruins don't have enough young talent, the Kessel trade (on the heels of the Rask trade), has now netted the B's Seguin, Spooner, and a big, mean D-man named Dougie Hamilton who is going to make a great Bruin, and the Leafs and Habs misreable for a long time.
Toronto Maple Leafs = worst run organization in hockey (their fans just haven't figured it out yet).

Re: The official NHL thread
The Blackhawks finally found someone to take on that awful Brian Campbell contract - the same guy who signed him to that awful contract, Dale Tallon!
The deal saves the Hawks around 4 million bucks in cap hit - NICE!
They also dealt Troy Brouwer to Washington, clearing up another million or so.
This, along with the cap increase, means the Hawks can extend Patrick Sharp, cover some scheduled raises, and still be a player in free agency.
Florida is still way under the cap floor - wonder if they need a veteran goalie? The Hawks have an expensive underachiever named Huet they can unload! Make the call, Tallon!

A lot of isles fans wanted Hamilton, but they picked Strome, I guess in hope he can be on Tavares' line in a couplke of years.WOLF wrote:A big FUCK YOU to the Toronto Maple Leafs this morning. Fuck Milbury. Yes, it's Wang's fault for trusting and loving that POS, but God, he did some stupid shit.Tommy wrote:http://www.capgeek.com/charts.php?Team=21Kid-Wicked wrote:i know what a buyout is. i just didn't know how you alpy it to the cap.NeverSurrender wrote:Buyout means they can pay him so much money to be free of the contract. i believe they can do that after next year. Like I said, not sure though.
he was bought out for $17.63 million, or two-thirds of the amount left on his contract. that would be paid out over eight years ($2.2 million a year), but the cap hit won't be calculated until the buyout is made. there's four years left.
no idea how to calculate the cap hit. 2.2 million would make sense. but really, if the guy isn't returning it shouldn't count against the cap.
Holy shit
Cap hit on Yashin is $2.2 a year until and including 2014-15
WOW.![]()
I thought my team's owner sucked (he does, big time).
Oh, add a Brendan Witt hit for $800k too.
Even against a major division rivial I find it hard to find funny/like.
Every day that goes by I'm hoping less and less the Rangers sign Brad Richards to some 8 year $8 mil/per contract with a NTC. I feel it coming though.

The Bruins are should be competitive for quite some time as long as they can figure out how to sign all their young talent in a few years. I think the only issues they have going into next season are how to replace Recchi's leadership and whether or not to sign Ryder and Kaberle. Marchand is restricted.WOLF wrote:A big FUCK YOU to the Toronto Maple Leafs this morning. Thomas had a great season but he was certainly helped by a strong group of defensemen in front of him. Chara, Seidenberg, Ferrence, McQuaid, Boychuk and Hamilton will make a nice physical presence in front of Thomas and Rask for the next 3 or 4 years.

Yeah, reminds me of the days of having Moog and Lemelin. As long as one of them is hot the team is golden. I do think that they will resign Rask after next season and move Thomas to open up the cap room to handle all the free agents they will have to deal with in 2013.NeverSurrender wrote:Must be nice to have Thiomas AND Rask.

yeah but what is counted against the cap when the wording is,"the cap hit won't be calculated until the buyout is made."?WOLF wrote:Buy out's work out like this:

i don't understand that. is that when the buyout is agreed upon or when it ends? is it the 2.2 million against the cap every year or is it less because it was a buyout?

It's when the buyout is agreed upon. All the monies are actually paid to the player up front I believe. Which is why it works for the union, as the player can make interest on the money. It's spread over a number of years for cap purposes, otherwise a buyout would be of little use to the teams (cap-wise).

Gilmore, Newendyke, Belfore, and Mark Howe to the hall of fame this year...
No Pat Burns - that's a shame
3 Coach of the year awards with three different teams, won the cup - what more did he need to do?
Maybe next year?

He was a damn good D-man. Almost a point per game, +85 one year, a great career in the WHA before he was in the NHL. Bet I get you - it's the Hall of Fame, not the Hall of Very Good.Bassmaster1984 wrote:Mark Howe??? Really?
I'd like to know why Phil Housley doesn't get considered more. He's the 4th highest scoring d-man of all time, and hugely important in the emergence of US hockey in the 80's and 90's.

The biggest travesty with all the hall of fame inductees is that Pavel Bure is still NOT in the HOF. What a fucking joke.
People idolized Bure. No one idolized fucking Mark Howe. I went to a bunch of Canucks games when Bure came in to the league and that guy had everyone on their feet whenever he had the puck.
Absolute joke. Bure remains in my opinion the most exciting player to ever play the game

Dale Tallon going to Florida and giving the Blackhawks a draft pick just to sign Kopecky reeks of when Keving McHale gave the Celtics Keving Garnett for Al Jefferson.
Thanks Dale!

Come on now, he was banged up all the time.
60 goals twice, 50+ 3 other times.
As a Ranger he was almost a PPG player on one leg.

Bure's a Hall of Famer but he'll be shutout for a few years because of the "soft European" tag/bias.Tommy wrote:Come on now, he was banged up all the time.NeverSurrender wrote:And the typical underachieving Russian.Royal Dudeness wrote:The biggest travesty with all the hall of fame inductees is that Pavel Bure is still NOT in the HOF. Next year should be interesting. Sundin is eligible and should get in. I might wait on Roenick for a bit, and I'll puke if Cujo gets in.

Don't get me wrong, he was one of my favorite players, but he's a bit like Randy Moss. Randy Moss was great player who should've have been even better.
Bure was great and still underacheived. i'm also not saying he doesn't belong in, just that's the reason they will surely use.

Great day in Rangerland! Chris Drury bought out. Before anyone defends him I'd just like to add that he had one more point all year than Lundqvist....yeah Henrik...the fucking goalie.

So long"Superstar".Rumors abound that Max Talbot won't be resigned. There's even a report that his negotiating rights have been traded, but his agent denies this.Great PK guy. Thanks for the two goals in game 7 against Detroit and for taking a beating, yet changing the course of game 6 against the Flyers. Of all the guys I met at Pens training camp,he was the most down to earth.
