But yeah, these guys weren't bigger because they were pretty mediocre.

I remember reading somewhere that once Slash actually listened to the recorded versions he told the other guys he was quitting. When they said "Why??" he said "Have you listened to the recordings?" they said no, and he said "You should". Buckcherry guy was gone.joey78 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 12, 2025 11:34 am Josh and Keith were in an early version of Velvet Revolver.
If they were good enough for Slash to consider …..

It was in his book. Keith stuck around for a little bit, but was sent packing as well. Slash said he just assumed they were a package deal and was surprised that he stayed.HueyRamone wrote: ↑Sat Apr 12, 2025 2:29 pmI remember reading somewhere that once Slash actually listened to the recorded versions he told the other guys he was quitting. yup. Timing was everything for the comeback.. They were handled by the same mgmt company and label that Motley were on...Their album 15 came out first in Japan in late 2005 and then released here in USA around April 2006.. Since we were already handling Motley's website along with the band members sites (except Tommy's), we were lucky enough to get the account to handle Buckcherry's site and online store. We handled from 2005-2009. Motley's comeback in early 05 was very successful.. That helped mgmt $ wise to give Buckcherry's 15 album a really nice push. It's a really good album.. As for a ballad, they did pretty decent with "Sorry"..aznsquirt wrote: ↑Sat Apr 12, 2025 11:56 amThe timing was right for people in their mid 30s+ who were over the 90s to get excited about a band bringing their youth back. I remember the pseudo-hype when they first broke, and then they just sort of flash in the panned, and I remember thinking "of course they did, that was never really going to work".HORRORHOLIC1979 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 12, 2025 11:21 amBecause their singer sounds like absolute shit and comes across as a complete tool!!! I don't get the Aerosmith/Guns N Roses comparison at all. I'm shocked some people expected them to be bigger back in the day.
And then they reformed and came out of nowhere with Crazy Bitch, which crossed over to a larger audience. It was a perfect song to pull it off with (it just crushed it among 30-something-ish women who are in their barfly phase). But they were never going to have major staying power without some kind of major pivot towards pop, e.g. some huge ballad which I don't think they even tried.
Like I said before, rather than "why weren't they bigger" I think it's easy to argue that they got most of what they could've gotten out of what they were at the time.
Please elaborate .HueyRamone wrote: ↑Sat Apr 12, 2025 2:29 pmI remember reading somewhere that once Slash actually listened to the recorded versions he told the other guys he was quitting. Thanks for the writeup. I never followed BC to any degree, never listened to an album, etc., so I'm just coming from someone who casually remembered them coming and going. I just listened to "Sorry", I may have heard it before but don't recall. It has 30mil views on YouTube so clearly it was a successful song.MOON wrote: ↑Sat Apr 12, 2025 6:01 pm yup. I always felt they should have gotten a lil bigger after 15. Some people say they are in the "Cheap trick" class of always being openers. I'd be fine with that if it were me. but they are out there touring A LOT and making a living... They are all great great guys too. Yea, they had some band member changes.. but they are still putting out good stuff.. i didn't think the "fuck" album was the way to go at the time. Radio is pretty pointless now.. Back in 05/06 when 15 and crazy bitch blew up, It was was all over radio. Then you had the video for Crazy Bitch.. the first one (dirty version) which got a lot of news and later pulled due to a lawsuit.. They ended up having to shoot a new video afterwards..
I still think BC is a really good band.. if you haven't seen them in a while.. go check em out.. saw em last year.. was a great show! Wish the set was a bit longer. I was bummed to have missed their tour with Skid Row a couple yrs back. Always wanted to see those 2 bands together.

They always struck me as one of those bands who proudly wear their influences on their sleeve but don’t come close to being as good or better or making anything new with it.
These two posts sums it up well.aznsquirt wrote: ↑Sat Apr 12, 2025 11:56 amThe timing was right for people in their mid 30s+ who were over the 90s to get excited about a band bringing their youth back.
