Poison Native Tounge isn't that bad
first time I listened to that record in probably 25 years or more. The songs are actually great and compared to the older Poison records it's missing all those filler songs like nr 1 bad boy, love on the rocks etc. Sure its missing the glam anthems but I think its a pretty good record.
Re: Poison Native Tounge isn't that bad
Native Tongue is an excellent album.. There’s really not a bad song on it. Stand was a little overwrought, but the rockers are good and catchy and slower songs like Until You Suffer Some and Theater of the Soul were very nice too. Not glam, but still great.

Stand was a horrible opening single.

It sucks.
Just like the Warrant album from that time and MC94.
Just because those three are the Holy Trinity of Metal Sludge doesn't mean they are good.

Bite your Native Tongue, since it's not part of the Trinity.

It's a terrible Poison album.
But it's a really good album on its own.
"7 Days Over You" is fucking great rock n roll. "Suffer Some" is probably one of my most listened to songs from the era.
But it doesn't work as a Poison album - too goddamn serious. Where's the fun? It's fuckin Poison!

It's not a good Poison record.
It's not a good record at all.
It's a glorified bar band record with a really talented guitarist.

The only song on Native Tongue worth listening to is Blind Faith.
The rest pretty much sucks.

I didn't know who Richie was then, but this sounds like a Kotzen solo album with Bret singing. I'm not bothering to look up who wrote what, but knowing what Richie writes these days, it seems to have his influence all over it. I never liked it then, and I haven't listened to it in 30 years.
Warrant's Dog Eat Dog is my favorite Warrant album of all time. Just is. Can't explain.

I wouldn't be so harsh but that's the general consensus. It's a great record. It just didn't blend well with the previous albums and obviously Richie didn't blend well with the rest of the band members.FreddyFender wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2024 11:38 am It's a terrible Poison album.

Poison made a really solid album here but obviously the timing was off. Happy to have seen them on tour with Katzen in late 93. The arrow was way past due and it was the bands truly last shot at hitting something big.

Very strange hearing the regular Poison hits with Richie behind the wheel and the whole non-neon theme they were going with at that time. The era was way past due and it was the bands truly last shot at hitting something big.

Good stuff. It doesn't have songs that are as good as Fallen Angel or Talk Dirty To Me, but it's probably the most consistent album. Doesn't sound like a Poison album though, more like a 90s Richie Kotzen album.

I love Poison's normal stuff, but damn I wish we got a second album with Kotzen. "Until You Suffer Some" and "theater of the soul" are just all-timer songs.

Only 3-4 good songs so it didn't work as an album. But "Stand" is one of the best things they ever did, except that it doesn't really sound like Poison. Too big of a stylistic leap. Same with "Suffer Some." Really good song but it doesn't fit well with other Poison material.

#1 Bad Boy is the poster child for filler. Love On The Rocks was alright. It was no Seven Days Over You or Body Talk.

Basically this. Stand is not bad either actually. The rest is garbage and a step in the wrong direction. Crack a Smile is more like what they should have done after F&B.

I’d consider them deep cuts. (Even though one opened their most popular album)Tommy2Tone84 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2024 7:54 am#1 Bad Boy is the poster child for filler. Love On The Rocks was alright. It was no Seven Days Over You or Body Talk.
Don’t know the other 2, sounds like the elder outtakes
