How do you feel about Iggy Pop?

Post by Chip Z'Hoy »

If you want to talk about him being straight-up naugahyde now, it's still a free country. (Free-ish.)

Stooges: Godly. "Nobody listens to them, people just say they do to act cool." Okay! Don't listen to Fun House and have a good time. Fuck do I care.

Solo Iggy: First 3 albums are great, then he kinda dabbled in radio rock and pop metal, but those albums are fine. Nothing I'd listen to but if for some bizarre reason, somebody put on Party at a party, I'd be like "Weird, but okay."

That American Caesar, Naughty Little Doggie, Avenue B run was really underappreciated, especially Avenue B.

A couple of his newer ones have been pretty good, like the Josh Homme one.

Of the Big 3 of Scumbag Glam (Bowie, Iggy, Lou), he's got the least impressive discography but other than the pretty lame Stooges reunion record, nothing that approaches Tin Machine or Lulu.

If you would like to use this opportunity to discuss IggyPopWillEatItself, have at it! I mean, who cares about Iggy Pop.

Almost put Bolan in there for a Big 4 but I think he's just standard glam/glitter. Bowie's maybe scumbag-adjacent himself.

I wanna be your dog, down on the street, dirt, penetration, gimme danger… untouchable rock.

The album with I got nothing is great.

The idiot album is excellent.

Brick by brick is great.

The song endless sea is great.

The good stuff he’s done is its own thing.
True rock n roll existence. Which he bitterly laments on the brick by brick album.

He personifies a certain era that no longer exists.
I think his spirit influenced the good stuff of the early 80s rock scene

I like his sense of humor.
He was recording an album in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. A writer went there for an interview and found him in the parking lot, in front of a car with the hood open. He was setting up mics, stands and cords. When the writer asked him what the Hell he was doing, he said, "I'm recording horns," which he was.

As long as I'm learning something, I figure I'm OK - it's a decent day.

I like him- I could have been superfan if he was from my generation..but I discovered Billy Idol first

First time I really noticed him was from Black Sunshine video
Probably watched the video 4 million times…spent hours rewinding that video
Jani Lane and Bret Michaels should form a band called "Nelson II"

Stooges are brilliant. Half a dozen or so really good solo albums too. I liked his recent Andrew Watt produced album way more than I expected.
