He was in full makeup and made a crack about "Hey, we can't all work with Prince" or something along those lines. I don't remember all the details, but he was a joke contestant that no one took seriously. They even filmed him at his house and there was some gag with him flushing a toilet in his studio/basement.

Some of them are that deluded. Late 90s, there was a generic Ramones / Screeching Weasel style band that I knew through a mutual friend. They released 3 albums, that I know of, and played the usual pub / club circuit. I asked my friend about them recently. He said the singer was absolutely, genuinely convinced they'd be as big as Green Day one day. Spoiler: they weren't.

the guitarist couldn't get out of work! so, we still flew out to do the show! with or without a guitar player it was for T.V. so, 100 percent we were still going to do it!!!
