Promised Land
6/10
Despite being written by the guy from The Office, starring Matt Damon and
directed by Gus Van Sant, this movie was far from great.
Not surprised the movie had a short run at theaters earlier this year.

Last Days Here (documentary on the lead singer of the band Pentagram) - 7/10.
Very interesting in a gloomy kind of way.

I saw this documentary on HBO. Never heard of the singer, etc.... I was glued to the t.v. from beginning to end.

Stunning how much of a rip-off this movie is of Men In Black. Decent premise but poorly executed. Ryan Reynolds' shtick is growing tiresome. Funny in spots, but generally tedious.

Turbulence 3 the 'heavy metal' one
6/10
Rock star Slade Craven takes 40 lucky fans aboard a chartered plane for private shows and party time until things get a little more controversial then even Craven is reputed for when he pulls a gun on his own fans...
It was entertaining for lols and bad acting, some scenes were surprisingly well written and acted and some were just awful, and the idea that metal fans would get off on a video where a singer abuses a dog with a razor blade pisses me off and tells me the writers dont know jack shit about heavy metal, but still worth watching on Netflix if your bowl is packed.
I'd like to get the soundtrack as I actually enjoyed some of the music.

Frontière(s) (2007) - 6/10. French horror flick that starts out really gritty and original, but half-way through, they kind of drop everything and it just turns into campy run-of-the-mill gore.

My wife and I have been wanting to see this.
You see it at theater or rent it?
I was not nearly as impressed... maybe a 5/10 tops.
Matthew Mcconaughey plays every character exactly the same. Flat.. so very flat.
The story was great, but he was a total dud.

Instant classic. I've seen the movie countless times
and decided to watch the film again last night courtesy

All the actors involved turned in a masterpiece. A true clinic
how to act.

Pacific Rim - 8 outta 10.
Saw it in IMAX 3D. Quite the spectacle, although it moved a little too fast during the slightly dark, "cameras in too tight" ADD influenced fight sequences. Still...waaay over the top. Great if you dig old school Kaiju shows/movies, Transformers, etc.
Ron Pearlman was great per usual.
Note: Saw the IMAX 3D preview for the new Metallica movie as a trailer before PR...looks absolutely unbelievable. I have not been a fan per se, in years, but I will definitely be going to see it.

The Cheap Detective (1978) - 7/10. This was Airplane! before Airplane!, just as a spoof of old Films Noirs, with Peter Falk as a Bogart stereotype and Ann-Margret being hot.

Its from 2012 - I found it on HBO, but it may be On Demand through Comcast. Its the one Directed by Oliver Stone. I had wanted to see it at the movies when it came out, so was happy to catch it on HBO - for some reason I am receiving HBO free.Caustic Queen wrote:What year is that one?ArielPlath wrote:Savages - 10

The Wolverine: 7/10
You really can't go wrong with the X-Men movies, although X-Men First Class will be tough to top.
The Conjuring: 7/10
Better than your average horror movie with some good moments.
Unlike Insidious this one doesn't get stupid once the Ghostbusters show up. Probably the best horror movie I've seen at the movies since The Ring.
Viva Knievel ala Riff Tracks: 8/10
Evel Knievel, Leslie Nielson and Marjoe Gortner finally get the MST3K treatment. And all I can say is its about time.
....two sevens and an eight, I've been on a good roll after sitting through a ton of crap lately.
