Welcome to the Dollhouse (1995) - 9/10:
I think I'm turning into a Todd Solondz fan. All three movies of his I've seen were great and this is probably the best yet. I wouldn't even call it a "black comedy" because it's too bleak to be ever really funny, even when it's trying to be comical. It's just constantly heart-breaking without turning sentimental.
The German Chainsaw Massacre a.k.a. Blackest Heart (1990) - 8/10:
Best movie about the unification to this day. An avantgarde splatter trash classic.
The Orphan Killer (2011) - 5/10:
Marketed as something super extreme, it's completely underwhelming. It's just another gore flick and a pretty cheap one at that. The main chick is pretty hot, though.

The Fly (1958) - been re-watching as many Vincent Price as I can lately. This one, especially given when it was made, is one of the better ones. 7.5/10
And on the flip side, The Fly II (1989), a really bad follow up to the excellent remake of the original - 2/10

Essential Killing - 5/10
Sorry, the guy is hungry and cold and then eats some magical ants and becomes a superhuman?
The Man With The Iron Fists - 7/10
Much better use of over the top superhuman stuff.

8.5/10
Very good movie. Go see it without spoilers. I avoided everything and had no idea what was going on aside from the first trailer. Great performances all around. Very much in the Hitchcock vein.

Depp was terrific. The entire cast was great. I'm so glad no Wahlberg was in front of the camera for this project.

After Dark, My Sweet (1990) - I may have reviewed this one before but I caught it on Encore again recently. This is one of those whodunnit type flicks that has a surprising cool edge to it. Jason Patric has to be one of the most respected actors that could have been huge in a sex symbol kind of way after the excellent Lost Boys but wisely/stupidly chose not to do so for that type of role (maybe minus Speed 2). This is worth the effort if you can find it.
From IMDB:
An ex-boxer is drifting around after escaping from the mental hospital. He meets a widow who convinces him to help fix up the neglected estate her ex-husband left. Her Uncle talks them both into helping kidnap a rich boy for ransom money, and the ex-fighter must make decisions about his loyalties and what is right.

Quiet Days in Clichy (1990) - 5/10:
Wow, this sucked. As a big fan of both Henry Miller and full frontal nudity (visible labia and all) this came as quite the surprise. This has barely anything to do with the book, where it's obviously the story of a writer banging everything in sight. Here it could be any douche, it doesn't matter. I also saw it dubbed in English over the French original only, which probably didn't help. The Danish movie from the 70s was far superior.
Comes a Horseman (1978) - 6/10:
Hanoi Jane is still hot. On the other hand it's also a Western, which sucks, of course, but it's bearable.
Rosa Luxemburg (1986) - 7/10:
Good biopic about one of the most heroic women in history. Barbara Sukowa is pretty amazing. Not exactly a feelgood movie, it's very bleak and realistic and requires good knowledge of the historic context. I've read that if he hadn't died, Fassbinder would have directed this - with Jane Fonda as Rosa!
Godard's Passion (1982) - ? :
Didn't get it at all if there was anything beyond random artsy shit. I'll stick to Godard's political stuff.

Emily Blunt did a fine job but Benicio and Josh Brolin stole the scenes.
Favorite scene was of the caravan that drove through the border of El Paso, into Juarez and back to the US side of the border. That must have taken days to plan/shoot.

Might as well been a TV movie. Should have been grittier, instead of so family friendly. Decent cast. Not sure why Juliette Binoche was in the film, but oh well.

Point Break 2015 - ZERO out of 10. You can find the same stunts on youtube except they don't get assistance from special effects. Wasn't clear why the FBI was even involved since the crimes all took place outside the US. The characters were flat as a pancake. Total garbage.

A Most Wanted Man (2014) - 3/10:
Philip Seymour Hofmann, Willem Defoe and Rachel McAdams in a confusing and very boring plot about Soviet Islamic terrorism in Germany or something. One of them is hot, despite the contrived German accent.
Life of Crime (2013) - 6/10:
Jennifer Aniston in a light quasi remake of Jacky Brown. Not terrible.
Scanners (1981) - 7/10:
Nice weird, terribly acted 80s horror. One of Cronenberg's better early movies, but still a far cry from stuff like Videodrome.
The Darkest Hour (2011) - 5/10:
Promising science-fiction movie with some great locations in Moscow. Ruined by cold war stereotyping and overall shitty characters. Rachael Taylor is hot in it.

I re-watched Sid & Nancy, I hadn't seen it in years. If the real Nancy was even half as annoying at Chloe Webb, you could not stop yourself from punching her in the face! Great movie though 8/10.

The real Nancy was much, much worse from what I've heard. Nobody liked her. I can see why Johnny Rotten dangled her out a window by her ankles. He should've "accidentally" let go.
Fuck Nancy. Fuck Sid too, for that matter.

They should have watched From Dusk 'Til Dawn on repeat until they learned how to properly meld two genres. Lose fifteen minutes from the first part, add twenty to the end and it would have been great. As it is its a long Outer Limits. 7/10Gazpacho wrote:Gazpacho wrote:EddieVanHeineken wrote:10 Cloverfield Lane
