Why is Shinedown's 'The Sound of Madness' charting on iTunes?
A 16 year old song by a band ignored by the industry is at #13 on the iTunes charts. Any idea why? I figure a popular show used it, like when Stranger Things used 'Running up That Hill' and the song got a brief pop.

I know almost nothing about this band... but...
I did sell some of their stuff, autographed bass or guitar ( I forgot), along with some other signed stuff, drum-heads, CDs, tour jackets, etc...
Are they from Oklahoma? If memory serves me...

That album is awesome. Probably one of the last big selling physical albums....at least in the rock genre
Singer has some incredible pipes.

Apparently, the song is charting because it’s all over Tik Tok. The guitarist commented on it on his socials.

They played The Phoenix theater here in town when they were just breaking with Silvertide opening. I enjoyed Silvertide far more. Then Shinedown stole Silvertide's guitarist...

You’re thinking of Hinder, boss. Easy to get bands from that era mixed up.

Re: Why is Shinedown's 'The Sound of Madness' charting on iTunes?
they're one of the most successful hard rock bands of the last 20 years and a tic toc video made some of you take notice?
All of Shinedown's singles have charted on at least one Billboard tracking chart. Their biggest hit is "Second Chance", the second single from their album The Sound of Madness. The single reached number seven on the Hot 100, number three on the Mainstream Top 40, and number one on the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks, Alternative Songs, and Adult Top 40 charts.
Shinedown has found much of its success on the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, as each of their 31 singles has reached the top five, with "A Symptom of Being Human" becoming the most recent in December 2023. Of those 31 singles, eighteen of them have climbed to the number one spot, a chart record.
The band also has three singles that spent at least 10 weeks at number one. Their first single to do this was also their first ever chart topper, "Save Me", which came from the 2005 album Us and Them. "Second Chance" became the second during its massive run of success. The third and most recent was "Bully", which was released in 2012 off of the album Amaryllis.

Re: Why is Shinedown's 'The Sound of Madness' charting on iTunes?
Didn't know they'd charted again but "Sound Of Madness" and "Amaryllis" are fantastic albums. Diminishing returns since as they seemed to drop the more up tempo tracks in favour of mid-slow paced rock and ballads, but there's still a few gems to be found and I've enjoyed each subsequent album on its own merit - and I will say this, I enjoy each of their albums far more start-to-finish rather than cherry picking tracks out of them. They put out an excellent live package during their popular run as well, "Somewhere In The Stratosphere" I think it was called, couple of live CDs and a DVD.
Shame they couldn't keep the pace up but they were clearly trying to "grow" as a band and change up their sound, plus they had a bit of a rotating door of personnel on a couple of instruments if memory serves. I still revisit SOM on occasion, arguably the pinnacle of the post-grunge movement (however you term it).

I really can't believe that people are just hearing about Shinedown now for the first time in this thread. This is a band that has been around for more than 20 years, has multiple platinum albums, and has headlined arenas for at least the past decade. Are you really that caught up in an 80s bubble? Their cover of Skynrd's "Simple Man" was everywhere in 2003.
But like I said in the beginning, the industry has buried Shinedown, despite them being on Atlantic. The Sound of Madness went double platinum had six radio hits. Hell, I think even KLOS played "Second Chance." And the band was not invited to a single award show, like the American Music Awards or the Billboards. The industry has done its damnedest to marginalize genuine rock bands while redefining rock with crap like Bon Iver and Imagine Dragons.
I agree that The Sound of Madness was peak Shinedown and they have fallen into a repetitive rut. The secret ingredient to TSoM was Nick Perri, who was previously with Silvertide. He joined for the album and tour but left afterwards and they continued on as a four piece rather than replace him. It seems to me he brought an extra spark to the band that they never replaced.
And Brent Smith is the best vocalist of his generation. I mean, he has power in those pipes.

Check put Enemies, from the follow up to Madness. Great tune, but even better video.DemonFilth2001 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 9:05 pm Listened to Second Chance. I know that one.

These guys do incredibly well on radio and they fill large venues live. However, I don’t think I know one Shinedown fan. I enjoy them.

It’s a good album from a good band with an excellent singer. Brent Smith is one of the best in the genre, no question.

I like their old shit. Perfect Strangers is probably the best of their classic period. Only album I bought. That and Rainbow Finyl Vinyl.cowpins wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 12:23 pm, and while you're adding new bands to check out, include Deep Purple. You may like them!

They broke Van Halen's record a while back for most top 10 singles or something, so clearly someone is listening to them.

It’s a viral moment.
And by the way, a really really good song. I remember when it came out and was blown away.
