Was this the very early 2000's? I think I was at that show! In the late 90's and early 2000's there were a lot of pop up places. They weren't really rock clubs. They were just rented out for the night. I saw a few bands in places like that: LA Guns, Warrant, Ted Poley, Sebastian, Doro with Britny Fox and yes....Tuff.Brainy Lane wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2024 2:36 am Michael Sweet playing in a really small bar in Long Island.

Quite a few. I have a retired groupie friend who goes to all these things. Most notable was Exene from X. It wasn't even a music venue she was squeezed into a secondhand record store.

Too many to count. But the one I remember the most was Quiet Riot in 93-ish. They played the Interaction Lounge outside of Chicago and the stage power kept going off etc....Kevin was getting pissed and said if it happened one more time, they would walk. 10 years prior they were headling an arena in Chicago.

and definitely not a rock club.
I’m on Queens border side of Nassau County and I remember it being a bit of ride to get there.

I saw Peter Tork in a bad blues band at a local bar.
Very high cringe factor.

They were lame, like amateur folk musicians trying to play the blues.
People weren't into it and kept yelling for Monkees tunes.

There's a reason why he sang lead on very few Monkees songs.Turner Coates wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2024 8:32 pmHe played guitar and sang some of the songs. but not all.Rocker4Real wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2024 7:21 pmLet me guess. I saw BOC free in a bar with college ID in 89. They were great, but it was also kinda sad at the same time. Buck Dharma is really underrated.

Saw Paul Rodgers (billed as Bad Company) for free in '99 on a military base. He played in the park on a makeshift stage to about 70 drunk soldiers. He was also totally shitfaced and tried starting a "Fuck the general" chant after a five star general who lived next to the park complained about the noise. Wasn't a bad show.

I always wondered what his resistance was to doing a proper BadCo reunion. He certainly didn't distinguish himself with his solo/Firm crap.soulonfire wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2024 11:42 am Saw Paul Rodgers (billed as Bad Company) for free in '99 on a military base. Kansas in a small bar in about 1990 or 1991. Steve Walsh was . . . energetic.
David Lee Roth in a sort of dance club like place (essentially a really big bar) in 1994. It was actually quite a good show, though.

I saw Whitesnake in '87 at an arena, and a couple years ago they played at the Red Rock Casino. Outside. Next to the pool. David's stage patter had not changed one word.
David Lee Roth - saw with VH and without... and Diamond Dave later played the Naperville IL Ribfest. In Dave's defense, locally thats a huge event, and godDAMN he worked that crowd like a freaking champ, and owned them completely. Got some leg that night FOR SURE.

Went to our typical late night bar in college one night. $5 cover. Ugh. But they have bands occasionally and the cover isn't unusual.
Got beers. The fucking Spin Doctors are playing. This was 2-3 years after they were huge.

Crazy Town at what ended up being a VFW in 2019 to about 40 people. Shifty didn't even bring in the whole band, just whatever drummer he had then.
