Who likes the Whisky?
Tons of great shows, but I don't like it. Way to many opening bands. Late headliners and sound is trash. I like Canyon way better. Good sound, headliners on at 8 or 9. No never ending list of openers.

You forgot to mention asshole security.

Jani Lane and Bret Michaels should form a band called "Nelson II"

I've played there twice, but have never been in the audience, so I couldn't really say.

Re: Who likes the Whisky?
I went there once, with some Frenchie girls from the Furies...it was a day or two after one of those final (!) Mötley December gigs.
Hookers "n" Blow were headlining, pretty good...opener was Angeles, they were terrible and other bands I can't remember...
I had a great time, enjoyed the venue, entire evening was great, fun to be able to just stroll there after drinking at the 'Bow.

The older I get (currently 45) the more I like it.
Bought a bottle of Pendelton this weekend. Pretty good. I always have at home Tennessee and Kentucky Bourbon bottles and Proper #12 every now and then. Some of my favorites:
Pendleton
Buffalo Trace
Jack
Evan Williams
Makers Mark
Yellowstone

Do you like the troubadour? The guy with the lute that sings outside your house?gtshark1 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2024 11:35 am The older I get (currently 45) the more I like it.

I played there. I had no issues with staff or security. They all were great. Never saw anything out of hand. Sound was good too.

Geoff Tate says he hated playing there and he did it as a favor to one of his bandmates.

Most overhyped club in the country.
The nostalgia is cool, other than that, turd club.
Staff was pretty much indifferent to us when we played. No issues there

Re: Who likes the Whisky?
Absolutely. It's a club for tourists for who don't know any better but out of the 100+ clubs I have to in the years since I turned 21 I would place this squarely at the bottom.VinnieVincentsVag wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2024 12:27 pm Most overhyped club in the country.

Hours of pay to play openers, asshole security, layout with few places to "lean" when the back starts to hurt.
Don't really care for the location either but also once the center of the music universe shifted to eastside/downtown it was a lot easier to get home on the 24 hour bus that goes right by my front door.
I will only go if it's something super rare.

What's the issue with security? I've been there 100 times. Barely know they're there except for when they ask you to keep the lanes clear.

Re: Who likes the Whisky?
The one time I was on Sunset, I went to the Whisky for some battle of the band's shit, then over to The Viper Room. Both are over-rated POS.
Re: Who likes the Whisky?
Even better night would be Pardi, Aldean, and Bently in Rainbow parking lot. Sponsored by Howler Head.LAglamrocker wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2024 12:08 pm Everyone is crazy

Re: Who likes the Whisky?
It's not my favorite venue.
The band you came to see plays at midnight and the drinks suck.
If the opening band is awful, and they usually are, there is no escape.
The only good thing is, The Rainbow is right down the street, and they have good food and drinks.
Stay at The Bow until the band you came to see goes on.

Can we whine about the rainbow in here too? $30 for a pizza, $22 for a burger?Metal Sludge wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2024 7:50 pm

They have a grubhub icon on their site, i shudder to think what an order would cost you if you had it delivered from there.

Re: Who likes the Whisky?
No more drink tickets ..ya all
And
U can take photo or mini movie next to Bulletboys Gold cd!
I don’t even drink but if I do I get Long Island Ice Tea from this place and reflect on Bulletboys at Selland Arena flashback
Grub Hub I can guarantee I will never do that
For 30$ bucks I’ll take Rainbow pizza over 3 tribute “shows” for Crue-Manson- scab Ramones at Garden “Amp”

Re: Who likes the Whisky?
anyone know who owns it now? Gotta be a cash cow. Can't say I would go there willingly, but pretty crazy history to that place. I played their once, the backstage room had like a zillion signatures from every rocker you could think of, that was really f*cking cool. I have some vague memory of seeing Geezer Butlers signature, but that was a long time ago and many brain cells have died since then.

It was Nic Adler and Mikael Maglieri.EzyRider wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2024 7:45 pm anyone know who owns it now? Gotta be a cash cow. I get the idea that whole block is going to be redeveloped sooner than later. It's like the only sliver of real estate within miles that's exclusively upscale as far as I can tell.

Re: Who likes the Whisky?
My first week living in LA (about 10 years ago) I went to the Whisky for the first time to see Faster Pussycat. Ticket said doors at 6, show at 7 so I show up in the evening heat of 6:30pm, finding myself the ONLY PERSON IN THE PLACE. I got a beer and asked what the set times were, and after being told FP didnt go on until 11:45pm I knew I had a long night ahead of me
I’ve learned since; i do think its a great venue when its not packed; when its packed the security is super particular about where you are standing, though i think thats a fire code thing. Seen a lot of great shows there. And lots of fun drinking joints in that area (Rainbow; State; Rock n Reillys)
