"Tragedy" is my favorite. I probably did, but I was 11.

It's absolutely idiotic to contend Zep weren't A-listers in the 1970s.

"Has beens shouldn't present fucking awards to gonna be's"

Noel Gallagher about Michael Hutchence while he was standing right by him at the 1996 Brit Awards.

As a side note did you know Oasis covered 'Cum On Feel The Noize'?

Kinda sucks.

I think it was on a Classic Rock article, that after this Michael recorded a version of Elegantly Wasted just for himself called: I'm Better Than Oasis.

Yep. Sleek is Brit Pop lover so that is probably why he is getting his knickers in a twist.
Brit Pop is one of my favourite genres, but Oasis is hugely overrated.

As a poster already addressed, Oasis called Michael a has been while standing next to him on an awards show stage.
I heard “new sensation” the other day and forgot how good it is - much better than Oasis.
Got it, I had no clue of this.

I was a teen in the UK at the time when Brit Pop exploded. So it was inescapable for me. Give me Blur the Great Escape and Parklife or Suede's Dog Man Star and Coming Up when it comes to Brit Pop.

If you listen carefully to the chorus of "Elegantly Wasted" you can hear "Better than Oasis" mixed in with the "Elegantly wasted" vocals.

Accurate assessment. Concur.
Yeah I agree with that assessment as well.

But that is much more preferable to Oasis who I absolutely despise.
WTF does that even mean? Stand for something?
What did The Bee Gees stand for?
He needs something to believe in.

Funny. I always thought Oasis was a band who had nothing to say. Most of their lyrics are just words that "sound cool" strung together, but don't really mean anything.

Duran Duran took a similar approach, but were better at it (for the most part).

INXS for the win.

Yeah, but Oasis had a strong "band entity" personality*. They were all about that weird hair and that snarl and that working-class Northerner thing. They were crude and never hid their love of drugs, fighting and fucking, They were there to disrupt the music scene and piss off the fancy lads from down south.

All of which they did excessively. They were like Motley Crue with Paul Weller haircuts. One of my friends also referred to them as The British Skynyrd, which tracks. At the time they were on every jukebox in England and Wonderwall was pretty much the British Freebird.

To this day, I could not tell you anything about INXS aside from "they're Australian."

Dont Look Back in Anger is one of the most offensively bad songs I've ever heard.

You should be executed by firing squad for writing this shit:

[Verse 1]
Slip inside the eye of your mind
Don't you know you might find
A better place to play?
You said that you'd never been
But all the things that you've seen
Will slowly fade away

[Pre-Chorus]
So I start a revolution from my bed
'Cause you said the brains I had went to my head
Step outside, summertime's in bloom
Stand up beside the fireplace
Take that look from off your face
You ain't ever gonna burn my heart out

[Chorus]
And so, Sally can wait
She knows it's too late as we're walkin' on by
Her soul slides away
"But don't look back in anger," I heard you say

Yeah, the lyric isn't Keats, but you're missing the point of the song, which is the melodic/harmonic content. It's a fucking anthem.

You could put literally any words in there and 20,000 people are still going to sing the chorus louder than the band. "Ohhhh, Marmots are great....!"

People LIKE good lyrics, but bad lyrics have never stopped a song from going big, and a great lyric has never made a bad song go huge.

...unless it is hip hop.

Giggle says #55 on the top 100, and #10 on alternative airplay chart...but the song STILL exists. I've heard it at music events as warmup music and the crowd sings along.

Also at both Oasis and the one Noel show I saw, the audience easily drowns out the band singing that thing.

At the American Oasis Stadium shows coming up, that flop will still do the same thing.

nah, most bands have 1 focal point. Sometimes 2.
Mike was the Morrison of INXS. The bros were the Siamese twin of oasis.
Most of the britpop barely have one recognizable face.
Jarvis cocker? Damon albarn? Flock of seagull hair in suede?
Brown from stone roses?
I like all that music, but you come off like a 16yr old fangirl

Lolwut? You're still in "making shit up" mode i see. Nobody, FUCKING NOBODY, knows who was in Oasis besides the Gallaghers. INXS actually were recognizable due to Hutch, the 3 brothers, and the weird guy with the glasses who played sax. Now go back and fap to your Definitely Maybe poster...

I like Oasis fine, but I'd feel dumb singing along to this inside a pub.

By comparison, I understand what most INXS songs are about by the titles alone. Don't think image was their problem either. The band was a bridge between new wave and rock with an unusually charismatic singer. During their KICK-era peak in the late '80s, they were an alternative for those who didn't want to make hair metal their entire personality. If you watch their Wembley clips, they knew how to work a stadium too.

I begrudgingly have to admit this is spot on about Oasis.
