BAM! He has some good points, there are definitely musicians who are mercenaries, reminded me of a guy I was in a band with who wanted to get signed on Shrapnel so a bigger band would hire him (typical MIT shredder type geek)
I remember getting some photos and press in Music Connection magazine, which is more of an industry type rag. It seemed like a big deal at the time. It didn't go anywhere though (you know how many bands are on LA??)

TUFF was on the cover of Music Connection, with RATT in the spring of 1988. And it was a huge deal at the time, as few local bands would get the cover, even an in-set such as we had.
There was a solid multi-page feature inside as well... and that was not our only press in Music Connection.
If you recall, the Editor in Chief, was Kenny Kerner, who at one point was the Editor of Rock Scene, and many other National magazines.
He loved our band, but... if I am being honest, he actually loved me. lol. He was really into the whole Teen Sensation thing, and put me into a bunch of magazines, like Teen Machine, ZING, Rock Hunks, Concert Shots and others. He was def about the image, and knew that looks were a huge selling point.
Kenny has since passed away, and for those who think the name is familiar, he also Produced the first 2 KISS albums. He was very good friends with Bill Aucoin, who he suggested we have a meeting with and we did. This was "post KISS" of course, and I believe, it was after he managed Billy Idol as well.
Both were rumored to be Gay, or were... for what that is worth... and while Kenny was kind of flirty with me, it was nothing too crazy and he was just a super sweet man.
He was very instrumental in us getting some of our earliest National press, starting in 1987. I am forever grateful, he was a very good man.
He was also a Professor at UCLA, and taught a music class, in which he asked me to be a guest speaker. I came in and basically talked about the music industry with his students, answered questions, etc...
I just searched it, he died in May 2014, so a decade ago!

Someone else who worked there for years was Tom Farrell. He too, was big on the local scene, would go to all of the clubs, and did several reviews of our shows, or would blurb us in the weekly Industry Reports, etc...
Sadly, Tom also has since passed away.
