Anything could happen but I think ( with the exception of Toronto, holy shit ) the rest of mlb's chance is hoping the NL Central beats the hell out of each other first. Pittsburgh has a lead on Chicago, but I don't think they're a better team. As I implied earlier the Cubbies are just coming out of their infancy. They should be better and pissed next season. Especially if they go a distance in the playoffs.
I'm digging the hell out of this season. There's a lot of contenders and the arguable best is without their ace. I can't think of a single time that has happened before. Your #1 is out, not as effective or having an offseason, but out, and the entire staff steps up and dominates in his absence. I thought St. Louis would still be good but not that good.
I'm indifferent to the Cards but want to see them win a ring without Pujols soon. They've been in the playoffs every year since he was "insulted." Winning it would be the ultimate "Albert who?" Although I gotta admit if it came down to Chitown vs. St. Louis I would pull for the Cubs.
I'm not buying into the Cub's just yet. They're a hot, hot team but they remind me of the Puig season Dodgers 2 years ago riding on a spark from hell rather than a power house like the Card's.
I'd take the Giants or the Dodgers over the Cub's come playoff time.....
Other than Don Mattingly's ability to make all the wrong moves in the playoffs, his misuse of Kershaw alone should get him fired. It's more Mattingly fault for Kershaw's short comings then his one inning problems. Over used and put in at the wrong times. The last couple seasons Don goes into the playoffs with only 2 pitchers. Ryu should have at least 2 more starts instead of riding Clayton into the ground early, save that for the WS.
Seriously, facing a team like the Card's who would send out Kershaw against that line up twice within what 3 or 4 days? It should have been Ryu, or he should have yanked Clayton EARLY during that one inning curse.
I've gone from liking Mattingly to shaking my head.
With that being said, I do think the Cub's are for real, they've made a jump to being a very good team but I'm not tossing them in the WS just yet. I don't think the world is ready for the Cub's to win the series.
How shitty would it be to see KC beat the Cub's in the WS?
