A few years later two things happened at about the same time - she moved into a clerical position - and we found out we couldn't have kids. She just let it go - and got big. I was never bothered by her appearance - indeed I was proud to be seen in public with her. This was my wife - that in itself says far more than how one might look on a given day. The problem was her attitude changed - she went from being a taut ball of fire to a lethargic, bitter person. She resented other women for being slimmer than she was - and she resented me for remaining slim. It's THIS shift in attitude that I have a problem with concerning a life partner's weight gain. I can assure you it has NOTHING to do with some stupid "arm candy" crap. My wife looked good on my arm because she was my wife - not because of what size jeans she wore.

Yes - a lot of men are pigs - no question. I'm sure a lot of men look at their SO like they look at a new set of golf clubs - a "trophy" to show off to their friends. This is not how it works for me.
