Check the discount stores (Wal-Mart, Target, K-Mart) for the paperback. I got my copy at Wal-Mart for $4.97. Read it over a weekend, couldn't put it down. I enjoyed it just as much as either of Foley's books.

Anyone know exactly when Jericho is supposed to release his second book?

By the end of this year. I hope it covers his most recent run with the title.

Elf-The Edge book is really cheap now, you should pick it up.

Cool, I'll have to keep an eye out for it. And I wouldn't be surprised if Jericho ended his second book when he got "fired" in 2005 after losing to John Cena or when he was making his comeback last year with Randy Orton, just like he did with The Rock.

However, I'm worried that his next book could be quite lame because you know he won't be so open about some of the assholes backstage (HHH etc.) like he wa sin his first one.

So Kizarny's finisher is pretty much Cactus Jack's old double-arm DDT from when he was in WCW...

I need him to be a more annoying carny... just don't turn into Doink!

Vince being interviewed by Congress. Vince rules! I didn't read the whole thing but I love how Vince and his lawyers argue:
Most answers are Vince and McDevitt is his Lawyer. Vince is funny.

http://oversight.house.gov/documents/20081231141214.pdf

As a matter of fact, we even sent out a press release for the last two who tested positive. They were not involved in a story line, okay. They did not appear on television. If in fact, okay, it's important that someone who tests positive, when they

test positive we announce ‐‐ which we haven't run into that quite frankly. We haven't run into the situation. And again the program is evolving, guys, okay. You're trying to do some sort of gotcha bullshit, okay. But the program is evolving.

And quite frankly for you to ask me or suggest to me what we do in our business, you know, in terms of creative is absurd.

Q Are you familiar with the story that I'm describing?

A Generally.

Q The journalist, a wrestling journalist, Dave Meltzer, in a July 2007 piece compiled ‐‐

Mr. McDevitt. That's an oxymoron.

BY MR. LEVISS:

Q ‐‐ a list of 60 or over 60 former professional wrestlers who in his assessment had died early. Are you familiar with ‐‐

A I'm not familiar with anything Dave Meltzer writes. He's a gossip columnist. I don't read what he has to write. Like I say, he's a dirt monger. There are a number of those. We call them dirt sheets and they have very little credibility.

BY MR. COHEN:

Q What about ‐‐ some of his work received coverage in a number of other more mainstream outlets, for example, Sports Illustrated. I believe Frank Deford did a story on the Meltzer numbers. Are you familiar with that?

A Look, I've borrowed one of Frank Deford's shoes one night. He doesn't like me.

Q Are you familiar with his story?

A No. Other than Frank Deford wrote something derogatory. But, you know, he has no sense of humor and he doesn't like me. We were bowling one night and I borrowed one of his shoes and he never found it. And so he had to walk home in a bowling shoe and one of his others, and he was upset about that I understand.

Mr. Leviss. I'm going to have to note that would be
107
upsetting too.

Mr. O'Neil. Now we know the rest of the story.

Mr. McDevitt. You're hearing something for the first time, too. I never heard that one.

Mr. McMahon. Well, actually I also borrowed one of his wife's shoes, too.

Mr. McDevitt. That's a whole different story.

Mr. McMahon. I left that part out.

Mr. Leviss. I take it she was not your size.

BY MR. LEVISS:

Q Are you familiar with the book Wrestling Babylon by Irv Muchnick?

A I never read it, but I'm familiar with it.

Q I understand that he published a list of 89 former professional wrestlers who ‐‐ again he contended had died early. Have you heard of that?

Mr. McDevitt. I think that's the one he had a couple of people on the list twice.

Mr. McMahon. No.

Mr. McDevitt. That's the one he had a couple of people on the list twice.

Mr. Leviss. I'm sorry?

Mr. McDevitt. That's the one that has the same people on the list twice. That's the quality of his journalism.

Mr. Leviss. Okay.

Mr. McMahon. Where are you going with this? Cut to the chase, will you, please?

Some of Dixie Carters Interview
Q Do you think that WWE has a situation where, because
of either their steroid policy is failing or because it is
not tough enough or because they are looking the other way,
does -- do you have to use steroids to make it in the WWE?
Do you have to create the superhuman body and superhuman
physique and cartoonish figure that's not going to happen
naturally?
A It has been more prevalent in that company, there is
no doubt. And I think history has proved that's there's a
lot of athletes out there who have beat the stringent drug
testing system.
I can't really comment on the effectiveness of theirs.
All I can say is that you have to -- you have to back up
what you're saying.
If I said, guys, no steroids, no steroids, we want to
be a clean company, okay. Get rid of that gut. If you
don't put on 40 pounds, your ass is off.
You run your company like that and that's wrong. You
say, guys, we want to be clean. We want you to be healthy.
You are fine the way you are.
I have one guy that is so upset because he is just so
chubby and can't quit eating, but he is a wonderful guy, and
I cannot tell him any more than I have, you are okay, don't
worry about it.

Q Okay. Chair shots have been a big issue for WWE.
Do TNA wrestlers take chair shots to the head?
A They do, uh-huh.
Q Are they scripted?
A Yes, they are.
BY MR. BUFFONE:
Q Are these chair shots where they are putting their
96
arms up or are these chair shots directly to the head?
A It is a little of both. I mean, they know how to
protect themselves. You know what I'm saying? They know
how to make it look -- when they slap somebody, that big
thumping slap sound that sounds like it hurts like heck, the
guys are hitting their own thighs. They know how to do
that. Like, you won't even see and notice it. But I do
notice a few dummies that just sit there and take it and
then we have to tell them backstage you have to, you know,
put your hands up.

This topic may have been done before, I apologize if it has.

With Kizarny debuting last week, it got me thinking. What are some of the silliest gimmicks that have been forced upon the wrestling public?

A few of mine;
Duke "The Dumpster" Droese (sp)
Hornswoggle (WTF???)
The Goon
Snitsky 8) (just kidding Sabu)
Man Mountain Rock

Also, what were some gimmicks that were good but were phased out?
The Acolytes
Naked Mideon
The Brood

What are some of yours, good or bad?

YOU FUCKER!!!!!!!!!

I've only seen some of the snippets of Kizarny, but I think if they made him a darker character, it could work. I know WWE wants to be more reality-based than they were in the past, but at the end of the day... it's still scripted violence. It's entertainment in which the characters are the sizzle and the matches are simply the steak. And as the saying goes... you sell the sizzle, not the steak.

If you want generic, no frills athletes competing, you're probably going to prefer them in legit contests like UFC. I think WWE needs to get back to some over the top characters... and Kizarny could be a good start.

Wait a second... where was I? Oh, silly gimmicks. One word: PHANTASMO! I think the guy's finishing move was that he would perform a magic trick where he would remove his opponents underwear and then suprise them with a roll up.... Seriously!

LynnrdVonHetfield wrote:Also, what were some gimmicks that were good but were phased out?

The Brood was great. Fuck it... any stable is great. Even the Oddities.

I really liked the Satanic Undertaker character.

I liked Tomko's knockout gimmick. I think someone could really get over with that if they ran with it for an extended period of time.

I marked for Pirate Paul! I also marked for Ripper Paul in OVW. They seriously need to do something with the guy. He's as talented as anyone as they have and has that legit badass look. The guy could be the next Benoit if they booked him properly... minus the child murdering.

Kerwin White was gold! Obviously we know what happened with that.

IMO, if he's coming back... he's coming back on live TV. I still think Rumble, if not... then on RAW even if he's going to SmackDown.

Can't have a debut like that hit the spoiler sheets as part of a taped show... Sure you're still surprising your live crowd, but surprising a few million watching on TV keeps them coming back for more stuff like that.

I hated Biker Taker! I think I remember reading that Vince practically had to beg him to go back to the old Undertaker character.

He's just stale as hell to me now. Not quite sure what more there's left for him to do either. I don't think people will ever boo him again, so I don't he think he could ever pull off a heel turn. Guess we're just kind of stuck with him until he calls it a day.

At this point, with the injuries he's racked up over the years, I really think they should save him for the Big 4 PPVs and that's it. He's over as all hell and all they would have to do is just put him on the card and come up with a lame storyline to put him in a match: Heel pisses off the GM? He gets the Undertaker at SummerSlam. Underdog team needs a partner for Survivor Series, give them Taker. Want to get a heel champ over? Put him against Taker at the Rumble. Have a hoss that's running over everyone for 3 or 4 months? Put him against the streak at Mania.

Lets Taker avoid the wear down and travel, keeps his character fresh, helps sell PPVs and tickets as people know it's one of only four chances a year they get to see him wrestle, it gets them a few more years out of him, and most importantly it would put the guy in MUCH better shape when he's older than he's probably on pace for right now.

That kind of usage with him works on so many levels...

Thx Sabu! I hope a few more of you guys can vote.

I am all for Christian coming back but the WWE are some right morons if they take the belt off Hardy,he is massively over. I never got the whole "spot monkey" argument either.

It also looks like Swagger is gonna get the ECW title soon. What a mistake that is as well. Not just cause I am a huge Matt Hardy fan but I think it is way too soon for Swagger to get the belt.

OK, from doing our radio show we get a lot of shit sent to us. I just watched XPW Cold Day In Hell reunion show. I don't have much to say about it other than Kris Kloss/Larry Riveira are a fucking hysterical announce team. Also, there is a wrestler named Angel The Hardcore Homo. If you ever see some of the old XPW shows, they would usually have a few decent to good wrestling matches mixed in with the violent shit.

I have one XPW DVD and it was insane. Supreme nearly killed himself. He had one of the HUGE ladders outside the ring and he went outside and climbed it and when he jumped... the ladder buckled underneath him and he went chest first into the side of the ring.

This...

The Jericho book would hit home for Sludge wrestling fans. All of the metal references he peppers the book with are great for someone in my 'age bracket' (I'm just 2 years older than Jericho). He was into all the same music as me. It's a "music smark's wrestling bio"...

The latest on Christian Cage is that his contract with TNA has officially expired. His profile was pulled from TNA's website in the last few days. He still hasn't told people at TNA if he is coming back or not, but the general opinion among many is that he is gone. The feeling is that he will handle the situation the way he did back in 2005 when he left WWE for TNA where he didn't tell anyone anything and wanted whatever he did to be kept as a surprise.

While there remains nothing official regarding him signing a new deal with WWE, it appears it will happen or the company has been given a good indication he is signing as they have mapped out plans for him on Smackdown involving Edge and Jeff Hardy. As reported on yesterday, Christian was not at the Raw taping in New Orleans on Monday.

Larry Riveira is a guy named Pat Hoed who under the name Adam Bomb had a radio show on KXLU here in L.A. called "The Final Countdown" in the early-mid 80's. He was the first person to play Metallica, Slayer, and most of the thrash/crossover bands on L.A. radio... often bumpered by hilarious wrestling promos he'd gotten from Mid-Atlantic

LOL, why don't you like Kloss? I think his "OHHHHHHHHHHHHH" and "AHHHHHHHHHHHH" are pretty funny calls when he does them for XPW. I guess he was on WSX on MTV under a different name. I have the DVD of that but I haven't watched much of it.
Where's Izzy?

A) Kloss was a douche when a friend of mine worked at a video company with him.

B) He sounds like he's trying to impersonate Mr. Perfect's old ringside commentary but comes off as bad as whenever anyone does an unfunny Seinfeld impersonation.
