They are all accountable. Selig is the whipping boy for the Union. Keep the Players Union happy, they'll keep playing, money keeps rolling in.

I blame every fucking one of them. Starting with Selig.
Fair enough. I guess the blame can start at the top and slowly go downhill from there.

They are hypocrites as well.

There is no reason to believe that this won't be fixed, to the best drug testin allows. It's to the point that Congress is involved and acts of perjury are committed. Tejada pleaded guilty yesterday BTW. Selig, Orza and the MLBPA have no choice but to fix this. Finally.

I've always hated Canseco. Hated him for Oakland, was pissed when he came to Boston, etc. But I'm glad he started this shit, regardless if he didn't have the best motivation for doing so.

I want to punch this fucker in the face about 104 times

TAMPA, Fla. -- Bud Selig says Alex Rodriguez has "shamed the game," though the baseball commissioner indicated no plans to punish the three-time AL MVP.

Two days after Sports Illustrated reported Rodriguez tested positive for steroids in baseball's anonymous 2003 survey, Rodriguez admitted on Monday that he used unspecified drugs from 2001-03 while playing for the Texas Rangers.

"I am saddened by the revelations," Selig said in a statement issued Thursday, four days after Rodriguez's admission. "What Alex did was wrong, and he will have to live with the damage he has done to his name and reputation."

I remember watching Jose Canseco on the Jim Rome show around 2000-2001 talking about his book and how it was going to shake the baseball/sports world. He pretty much told JIm Rome that "payback is a bitch".

He believed he was blackballed by baseball during the 90's and this was his way of getting revenge.

Somewhere out there, Jose Canseco has a huge smile on his face.

To make things fair for each era, the stats keepers should pad the numbers of pre-steroid era players by determining who smoked/drank alot. For instance, Dave Parker probably could have stolen an extra 10 bases a year if he wasn't such a heavy smoker. Imagine how many more homers Mantle would have had if he wasn't drunk during half of his at bats. Yaz smoking a butt probably cost him 8 doubles a year cause he was winded by the turn around first. These guys just did the wrong substances, instead of enhancing their abilities they debilitated them.

And how fitting is it that a UNION helped bring another industry to its knees. In this case by turning a blind eye and letting its members cause physical harm to themselves, break the law by encouraging its members to lie before Congress and in the process jeopardizing their own futures and everyone involved with the game. Does anyone think that this shit would have gotten this far if the UNION hadn't fucked the '94 season and canceled the imminent World Series between the Yankees and Expos? Remember those next few years were dark days for baseball until McGwire and Sosa started going nuts with homers in '98. This obviously helped bring the game back, but both owners and union heads HAD TO KNOW something was up....and they all did nothing. I am in no way excusing the players, because they made their own decisions...and now their credibility is in question, rightfully so.

Selig is talking about reinstating Aaron as the Homerun leader, and adding asterisks. I think that is a huge mistake.

Where does it end? Hall Of Fame pitcher Phil Niekro admitted to throwing spitballs. This is after it was banned, and post former spitball pitchers could still throw them. Do you kick him out of the Hall now? Where does this end?

Selig has done more damage to this game than the 1919 Black Sox scandal, Pete Rose not being in the HOF, and Lou Gehring contracting ALS combined.

1. I believe pro athletes SHOULD be allowed to use performance enhancing drugs, if they choose - apparently the Yanks were full of juice monsters and it didn't help them. Meanwhile, teams like the Marlins, Sox (Red and White), Cards etc seem to (so far) have no issues with Roids, making it all that much sweeter that they were able to win.

2. I still laugh at the irony of the biggest crooks/liars/conmen in the world, congress, are actually considering punishing athletes who lied about their supplementation.

**from the we could see this comin file**

An unauthorized and highly anticipated book about Alex Rodriguez is coming out a month sooner than planned.

Publication of Selena Roberts’ “A-Rod: The Many Lives of Alex Rodriguez” has been moved up from May 19 to April 14 as scrutiny builds on the New York Yankees slugger after he acknowledged using banned substances from 2001-2003 while playing for the Texas Rangers.

“A-Rod,” which reportedly includes salacious details about Rodriquez’s private life, was originally titled “Hit and Run: The Many Lives of Alex Rodriguez.” Publisher HarperCollins, which this week listed the new release date on its Web site, has announced a first printing of 150,000 copies.

4 years? That's about as big as a contract you can go with a 26 year old pitcher. I would have tried to go for two or three with option years. They have some good RHP prospects that should be ready soon ( Adnehart, Walden, O'Sullivan ).

Santana had a good season last year ( 3.49ERA 3.337FiP .698DER 219IP 214SO ). I think this is showing a hell of a lot faith on their FO. I realize he was ranked as the #5 prospect by Baseball America in 2005, it's just out of ordinary for LAA to show faith. I wonder what they have up their sleeves. How much money did he get?

I thinking Beane's A's are gonna make a run this year.

Also The MLB Channel rules all! I'm watching the 1964 WS right now. MFY/Cards.....NY had to face Bob Gibson. Ouch.

I don't normally post these, but it's been slow. Baseball Prospectus did their season projections. Guess who's on top?

I'm only doing the top 3 for the AL East right now, since it takes a while to line these up and I'm hungry.

Boston Red Sox W98 L64 RS.849 RA697 AVG269 OBP.347 SLG.433
New York Yankees W96 L66 RS823 RA686 AVG.267 OBP.341 SLG.424
Tampa Bay Rays W92 L70 RS824 RA728 AVG.256 OBP.338 SLG.421

http://www.baseballprospectus.com/fantasy/dc/

Something doesn't measure up to me on here though. Pecota/Pythagorean are pretty deadly accurate ( not accounting for injuries and unprojectionables ). Still with the Mighty Red Sox. That win total? Looking into it, here's what I get.

Their projecting serious regressions for Youks, Lester, Pedroia, Drew, and a renassaince for Ortiz. Still with that kind of regression they have the pitching staff making up 15 of the wins. With the questions of injuries ( or even being able to pitch Smoltz, Penny, Saito ), that's a lot of faith IMO. Are these victories coming from a Devern Hansack call-up? :?

I think the team is going to be really good this year. I think the standings are going to really depend on the start of the season. The MFY and Tampa are gonna come out of the gates swinging. With Boston Nancy Drew's back is hurting, Lowell won't be ready until May, Smoltz June, etc. I expect a 3rd place standing for a bit.

Also it's predicted NYM #1, Atlanta #2 and Philly #3. I'll try to get to those later.

The Orioles are supposed to have the top system or at least in the top 3 right now. They have 3 prospects in the top 50. Oakland ( I don't know their ranking yet ) has 4. Billy Beane has always been a genius at this type of shit.

Oh yeah, word on the street is they've approached Brad Pitt to play Billy Beane in an upcoming 'Moneyball' movie. How much does that whole concept suck to you?

I predict that the Yahoo Fantasy analysts will give Matt Wieters such a furious ballwashing that someone easily impressionable (like say, me) will use an ill-advised draft pick on him.

I think Kendry Morales will put together a good season for the Angels (20-25 HR, .340-.360 OBP, solid OPS). I know there will be quite a few 1B who do better than him, but he might be a good sleeper/bench candidate.

Just because baseball focused the Mitchell report solely on New York informants, Balco and Barry Bonds and only ARod's name leaked I hope there isn't anyone who actually believes that the Marlins, Sox (Red and White) and Cards etc. are clean. I think it's because we don't care anymore. I agree with Schilling. Release all 104 names, and let's keep fixing this shit. Make Selig and Ozra go before Congress, no better yet burn them at the stake. Let's all move on.

I like the sound of that.
