The MLB.TV package I have lets me pick the TV station I want to watch.

If I am away from home with my laptop NESN loses by default of the sound volume being too low to hear.

NESN kind of sucks for this, why do other cities have a louder volume on their broadcasts? We may never know.

Jays fire Ricciardi...

Not shocking at all. Failure to move Halladay (especially after the package the Sox offered) pretty much punched his ticket.

Long overdue.

While I'm happy the trade didn't go through, the packages that were offered for Halladay were massive. Boston would've been way overpaying IMO. That and the Rios situation should've had him fired months ago.

I'm curious to who they'll bring in. They have Gaston managing, but there's still a lot of work to do. They'll have to completely rebuild. At least at the start of the season they had a team OPS of .375 so there's potential.

Dear Boston, we would like to return this strike out victim to their rightful owner. Thanks in advance.

Dodger management.

Manny 4 strike outs last night, 1 so far tonight. 6 or 7 left on to this point?

I would take Manny back in a fucking heartbeat. That hitting? That power? That feasting on other team's pitchers in the Playoffs? Anyone who wouldn't want him on their roster is lying.

One of the game's greatest right handed hitters is going through a slump right now? Deal with it, when he comes out of it it will be terrifying.

Kevin Towers is out as the GM of San Diego.

What a stupid fucking move by the owner. Towers was pretty good at his job, hampered by payroll. A lot of people are killing this move. Olney especially.

Towers found a taker for the Peavy contract in the last two hours before the trade deadline, swapping the right-hander to the White Sox for a cache of pitching -- and lo and behold, the team, like that in "Major League," just took off. The middle relief, built around guys like Luke Gregerson -- acquired from St. Louis in the Greene trade -- became dominant, and the defense locked down. On July 27, the Padres were 38-62, and since then they've gone 36-23, taking down contender after contender, and San Diego's win record could improve by 11-13 victories this season.

Towers cut the payroll, as ordered. Rebuilt the pitching staff. And with the second-smallest payroll in the NL, the Padres appear to have started a rapid recovery, and because of Towers' moves, they now have extraordinary flexibility, moving forward. And this is the time Moorad has chosen to fire Towers.

"Major League," indeed.

A side note: The firing of Towers would seemingly cement the likelihood that the Padres will not trade Adrian Gonzalez before next season, because of the politics. Moorad would do great damage to the next general manager by asking him to come in and unload the team's most popular player in his first months on the job.

I think we have the answer as to who takes over in Toronto (unless they go young up and comer route). You can't say he did a GREAT job in San Diego, but he did what was to be expected with what he had to work with. I would LOVE the Mets to dump Omar and grab Towers, but that's obviously not happening.

Fuck Manny...Fuck his attitude, fuck his swagger and fuck his drama. As a Dodger he hasn't done shit.

First it was the left over Boston crap, then he was too arrogant to trim his hair then he gets a 50 game suspension.

What happened in that 50 games? The Dodgers was the best team in baseball over that stretch.

One of the best hitters in the game? He hasn't done much since he came back and the Dodgers closed the last half on autopilot. He will need to destroy in the playoffs just to break break even. By breaking even we wont include his 24 million is salary.

Either way you guys can have your problem child back, I'd rather have someone with hustle and respect for the team and game.
It's easy to say he's all that and a bag of chips, you guys are used to his shit and he put up hall of fame numbers in bean town but this ain't Boston and I'm not about to give him pass just for what he did as a Sox.

The best thing about Manny? I made several hundred dollars of his bobble head dolls....If you're such a Manny fan I've still got a few left.

I've yet to see it or at least witness enough to warrant his baggage. Like I said, what he did in Boston has no bearing in LA. It's hard being a fan dealing with his crap, lazy defense then whiffing 4 times last night. Frustrating...Which is something I'm sure sox fans are use to.

It's a little better since they pulled out the win and locked everything up against the Rockies. Playoff's are here, I'll either be a fan or the biggest Manny hater on the planet. Next stop, St. Louis.

I wonder if Jim Thome's done or if some AL team will pick him up.
I think he still has a little left in the tank, and he's a good clubhouse influence if a team has a younger roster.
I'd like to see him return to the White Sox, but I don't see it happening. I think the Sox will use a DH rotation including AJ Pierzynski, Tyler Flowers, Paul Konerko, Scott Podsednik (if he's there next year, which I think he will be), Jermaine Dye (if he's there next year, which I doubt) and maybe even Carlos Quentin if he has any more foot problems next season.
A proud Steve Jones nutswinger since 1977.

Fine by me, I really can't stand having to stay up for a 10pm start time on the east coast. I'd lke to see a 1pm thrown in there, but at least the game should be over by like 10 the latest.

Aaron Hill and Chris Carpenter are the Comeback Players of the Year. Good thing I had both of them in my big money fantasy league, they just helped me win $500.

In other news, Trevor Hoffman has already re-upped with Milwaukee for $8M next season.

And despite winning 87 games the Marlins may fire Fredi Gonzalez. After canning Girardi and now this I hope that fucking organization finishes behind Washington next year for the way they treat their personnel.

Congrats to Hanley on being the first Marlin to score a batting title. :D I'm happy with the season overall. But our SPs faltered, and we had a shitty May...that's what done us in. Thanks, guys, for another fun season!

And if they fire Fredi...stadium or no stadium, I'll personally punch Mr. Loria in the throat.

only last night did i learn why the 1 game playoff is tomorrow.
frikking favre and MNF in the dome.

oh well. not sure who has the advantage with the extra day.

maybe the twins will lose a bit of momentum. they are hot and might prefer the game to be played today.

the tigers might be in dire need of a break. 1 day away from the game.

i have no idea.

fuck you favre!!

The Marlins had a pretty good season overall really. Aside from the obivious of Hanley. Josh Johnson and Ricky Nolasco are the real deal, I could see another 2003 type year on the horizon.

'09 playoffs begin this afternoon.

i'm not rooting for either team. don't care who wins/who loses, unless pavano somehow finds himself pitching in the game and gets the loss.

As a Yankee fan, you should care.

Starting pitching wins in the playoffs and the Tigers' is better.

Pull for the Twins today. They're a scrappy bunch but I'd rather deal with with Brian Duensing (who?), Carl Pavano (no comment needed), and Scott Baker than Justin Verlander, Edwin Jackson, and Rick Porcello.

The way I see it is:
tigers have strong starting pitching
twins right now are hot, despite the marquee talent on the hill

which opponent is the weakest?
the strong starting pitching or the team playing it's best ball right now

so i say, i don't care who wins. let them play today. for good measure, have the game go into extra innings.

Because one of my good friend's is from Minnesota, I was pulling for them. I was hoping it would be Detroit though. That Starting pitching they have would give the MFY fits. Now it's Minnesota whose like Seattle.....they'll get swept. They're about as hot as Colorado was in 2007.

Hopefully this run gets Gardenhire the AL Manager Of The Year.

Dude, aside from the MFY rolling through Minnesota, I wouldn't want to touch the predictions personally. The Playoffs are gonna be great this season. Way too hard to predict for me at least.

I can "hope" for the most part, but some big pieces are going to be hard. Like Sabbathia's previous playoff struggles. He wasn't throwing 500 innings prior this season, so I expect ( unfortunatley  ) for him to an ace this time. Some guy's have thrown career highs for IP ( Beckett, Buchholz ). Who knows?

I'm getting excited about the games were gonna see.

Let's go Mighty Red Sox!

Actually after giving this some more thought and some news released today. Carl Pavano is slated to pitch game 3, with Scott Baker pitching game 4 ( in his mind ).

:?

I'd like to take this moment to congratulate the MFY on reaching the 2009 ALCS.

This is pretty cool - some old footage recently found of Babe Ruth, most likely from 1928. Mixed in with it they show some classic stuff like Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner, Willie Mays, and Don Larson. Baseball Archivist - spending your days watching and cataloging old footage. That's a pretty cool job!
