I have a bunch of jerseys too. I don't wear them much, mainly to games, but I own at least one from my favorite franchises in all 4 major sports. I guess light socket licking is in my future too.
Edited to add: and don't even get me started on ball caps. I probably have dozens of those.

There's nothing wrong with ballcaps, unless you are one of those people who will ONLY buy/wear one if it's your favorite team.bane wrote:I have a bunch of jerseys too. Hell, I have both a Yankees and a Cubs hat and I despise the fucking Yankees and Cubs. (to be fair, I coach my kid's baseball teams and he was Yankee one year and a Cub the other, otherwise, I don't think I'd have spring for those) Most of my sports caps are from teams that I like though. I wear ball caps pretty much every day at work (long hair, pain in the ass, a hair tie and a ball cap solves the problem) so I have a shitload of them.thejuggernaut wrote:There's nothing wrong with ballcaps, unless you are one of those people who will ONLY buy/wear one if it's your favorite team.bane wrote:I have a bunch of jerseys too. Being a long haired dude, you have a legitimate and practical reason to wear a ballcap, not that ballcaps need a reason.bane wrote:Hell, I have both a Yankees and a Cubs hat and I despise the fucking Yankees and Cubs. That being said, if you ONLY wear your favorite team, there's an issue.
Ever meet those dipshits who say things like "how ya think they'll do this year?" and you have to stop and think for a second about what the fuck he's talking about, and then you realize he's talking about your ballcap and assumes that because you are wearing the hat of Team X that you are a fan of Team X. That's the kind of person I am talking about.

Okay. That's where you lost me (that, and I have a jersey or two in my closet), why in the blue fuck would you wear, say a Dodgers hat, if you weren't a fan of the team? You wouldn't catch me wearing a Georgia Tech hat, or a Purdue hat, or some shit like that. There's four teams that I openly pull for: Alabama, Troy, the New Orleans Saints, and the Atlanta Braves. Those are the only sports teams that I would wear any kind of apparel for.thejuggernaut wrote:There's nothing wrong with ballcaps, unless you are one of those people who will ONLY buy/wear one if it's your favorite team.

The 49ers losing last weekend sucked ass, but it's at least they didn't get run over or anything. I think they look better than they have in quite a while, and hopefully they will be in contention come playoff time.

I wouldn't wear say, an Auburn hat, because I hate them. I wouldn't wear any other team hat because I don't care about them. It's the same as some kid in the mall wearing a Ramones t-shirt. "Hey dude, what's your favorite Ramones song?" "Who the fuck are the Ramones?" If I see some guy wearing a Bama hat, I'm going to assume that he's an Alabama fan. If I bring the team up in conversation and he says, "Oh, I don't like Alabama, I'm really a Kansas fan," then I'm going to think the guy is a fucking moron.thejuggernaut wrote:Why wouldn't you ?tyke wrote:Okay. Conversely, I am going to think you're a moron for assuming he is a fan because he happens to be wearing it. Maybe it was a gift. What's he supposed to do, be a rude fuck and return the gift ?tyke wrote:I wouldn't wear say, an Auburn hat, because I hate them. I wouldn't wear any other team hat because I don't care about them. No offense, but perhaps you shouldn't walk up to strangers and try to strike up conversation with them regarding their wardrobe. Do you feel the need to befriend every person you see wearing a Crimson Tide shirt/jersey/hat ? Is part of your screening process for choosing friends based on their sports team cheering habits ? Do you choose your girlfriends/wives on the same criteria ? Would you turn here away because she represents your arch rival >

Are you a fan of the clothing designers of the non sports apparel you own, or do you just like the fit/style of them ?
Do you enjoy being duped by your team ? What do I mean by duped ? YOU are paying the TEAM to advertise them. In theory, it should be the other way around. You pay the team for the right to wear their logo. You are advertising the team for them, and not getting anything in return. Hey, maybe at a tailgait a fellow fan might give you a beer and a rack of ribs, so you'd be getting SOMETHING, but it isn't coming from the team.
Do you believe the hat holds magical "help them win" powers ?
Do you believe if you are wearing the hat when they win, it will bring you luck ?
Do you hope to run into one of the players and he'll become your friend ?
Do you think these highly skilled elite athletes' performance hinges on how many hats of their own they see in the stands ?
To "to show your support for your team" ? Support what ? Support how ? How is your wearing the hat benefiting your team ?

I think you've put entirely too much thought into what another guy chooses to wear Juggs. I don't understand the issue with choosing to wear something that represents something you like, be it a sports team, a guitar manufacturer, a band, whatever. Who cares, and who really pays any attention?

If I'm giving somebody a gift, the last thing I'm going to do is give them something that represents a team they're not personally a fan of. On that note, I have several pieces of LSU gear from a recruiting trip in my high school days, but I certainly don't wear it.thejuggernaut wrote:Conversely, I am going to think you're a moron for assuming he is a fan because he happens to be wearing it. So you've never been sitting at a bar or someplace waiting for your wife and / or girlfriend to run an errand, and out of boredom, strike up a conversation with the guy next to you? If the guy's wearing a Yankee's hat, I'm certainly not going to start talking to him about the injuries in the Red Sox pitching rotation.thejuggernaut wrote:No offense, but perhaps you shouldn't walk up to strangers and try to strike up conversation with them regarding their wardrobe. Re: Your random observations about the NFL season so far.
My biggest random observation is that my Bengals, whether it is short term or not, have got alot of people's attention in the last couple of weeks. Hope it lasts. They seem to have returned to being a pretty damn decent football team. Way more fun to watch than the last couple of years.
Tom Brady doesn't look 100% confortable when he drops back,..................yet.
The Colts and Ravens are looking good.
The Giants and Saints are looking good.

Overall, I think it's ridiculous as there's no LOGICAL reason to do wear only favorite team clothing.
Back on point - it's just one small aspect of the laughable existence of a 40 something ballwashing cheerleader of another grown man.

Re: Your random observations about the NFL season so far.
Scenario - you get sent away on business. You get sent to........LA. You only have a few free moments but you want to get your buddy a souvenir of sorts. His favorite team in is the Tide. All you can find is USC gear. Do you get him the hat anyway or do you say "fuck it, I'll get him a calendar" ? I suppose the more important question is, do you have a lot of friends who are so provincial about their teams ?tyke wrote:If I'm giving somebody a gift, the last thing I'm going to do is give them something that represents a team they're not personally a fan of. Christ I'm a gators fan (you may remember that from other discussions). I have Arkansas hats, Alabama hats, Georgia hats. I have plenty of other hats, but I am sticking to SEC hats. I don't give a fuck if it's a team I "hate". Whatever. Does it fit ? Are the colors normal enough ? Let's go. My NOT owning a Tennessee hat has nothing at all to do with the rivalry with Florida - it's based purely on that unfuckinggodly disgusting orange.
At the end of the day, if I happen to put on my Bulldogs hat the day of the Outdoor Cocktail Party, it has absolutely no bearing on anything at all in this world, real or imaginary. It's a hat. Unless it has a Swastika on it, who gives a flying fuck WHAT logo is on it.
I don't make it a habit of loitering in drinking establishments. That being said, I have sat in airport bars on business trips. I don't strike up conversations with people at bars (or anywhere for that matter). I don't know them. I have enough friends, this person (at that moment) serves no purpose in my life, and I don't give two flying fucks about him, his life, his wife, his kids, his job, anything.tyke wrote:So you've never been sitting at a bar or someplace waiting for your wife and / or girlfriend to run an errand, and out of boredom, strike up a conversation with the guy next to you? Hypothetical - I walk into an airport bar, and the place is jammed. There's ONE open seat at the counter. I take it. To my right, a guy with a Cowboys (any team will do) hat and a Cowboys (any team will do) jersey. And a Romo (any Cowboys player will do) jersey at that.
On my left is a guy in suit that appears to be custom tailored, shoes like mirrors and a briefcase/attache case.
They both try to engage me in conversation. I can tell you, 99 times out of 100, I am talking to suit man because the odds are far greater he has something more interesting to say.
I have absolutely no interest in hearing anything from the mouth of a man who not only feels the world has to know what team he cheers for, but who his favorite player is.
Isn't it, though ?tyke wrote:As for everything else, that's all asinine.

Re: Your random observations about the NFL season so far.
On topic.
To me, the Ravens look "off".
They sure do have an offense now, FINALLY.
However, I don't trust their D. Greg Mattison was the worst possible hire to replace Ryan.
Perhaps the strong veterans can ignite the fire to compensate for the loss of Ryan, but Greg Mattison is horrible.

I can see the relevance of it in some cases... but definitely not all.

Wasn't it Jim Brown who says "stats are never the be all end all"?
Anyway, grats to the Broncos, god I hate um but they beat down a team I hate even more. Good for them, someone has to win the west. With that being said, they will run into a good loosing streak soon.
The Jet's are better then I thought but still overrated.
God there are a lot of shit teams...Rams, Buc's, Raiders, Chiefs, Lions, Panthers, Browns, Titans, Buffalo....How bout Seattle, Washington, Miami and maybe Arizona into the mix?
I think Seattle, Washington and the Titans will have a stronger end of the season, the Panthers, Browns and Cardinals will win a couple more but the rest is pure shit.
I still like the Browns, Derek Anderson should pick them up a bit. Not good enough to contend for the divison but maybe clip a few when they're not looking.

Their defense is off the charts right now. Once Pace and Lito come back, they are going to be a TOUGH bunch.UtahRatt wrote:

Sanchez did them in today, but there are just going to be games like that. If he was even mediocre today then they win that game. Little Schotty has done an AWFUL job with him. There were some obvious running downs (even MORE obvious when you have an unproven rookie under center on the road) that he called for a pass and it didn't work out for them.

Its about the rings, not the stats, when it comes to judging QB's. Oh, and if you ever see Brett, thank him for that last play he executed as a Packer.
The overriding theme for myself (and itjogs, so far as I can tell) is we are valuing performance AND accomplishments over mere performance.
Nobody is saying Doug Williams or Trent Dilfer was better than Marino. But we are saying Montana was.
Here's one - Favre is better than Marino because he had the numbers AND a title.
Get it now ?

My three fantasy teams are 1-3, 1-3, and 0-4. And my Panthers are 0-3. Hooray for me.

Re: Your random observations about the NFL season so far.
My random observation: After shutting out San Diego for a large part of that game last night and scoring me a shitload of fantasy points, Pittsburgh's D decided to lay down and royally fuck me. The guy I was playing was starting Rivers, and I was coasting to an easy win before that 3rd quarter. Thanks Pittsburgh D, you assholes.
