dallas isn't hurtting at all. attendence may be a little down but they're still doing 16,000-17,000 a game.
tampa is doing 13,000+. too bad. they have a decent team this year.

Quebec is getting a new arena? That rules. Bring back the Nordiques, TABARNAK!
Are those numbers legitimate though? There was a pretty famous article that came out in the San Diego paper a few years ago explaining how all the leagues except for the NFL inflate - or rather flat-out lie about - their attendance numbers.Kid-Wicked wrote:dallas isn't hurtting at all. attendence may be a little down but they're still doing 16,000-17,000 a game.

Re: The official NHL thread
The question that needs to be asked, in addition to "are the attendance numbers legit" is "are people paying for the tickets, and if so, how much"? Attendance means nothing if, as in Phoenix's case, people are paying $36 for a family four pack when those same seats would sell for $75 a piece in a Canadian city. I'm actually shocked the NHLPA hasn't stepped up, since they now have a stake in the revenue of the league, and pushed the league to move teams to higher revenue markets. Then again, the NHLPA has a giant mess on it's hands internally....Ugmo wrote:Quebec is getting a new arena? That rules. Bring back the Nordiques, TABARNAK!

Talking about attendance, I was at the Canucks/Red Wings game and it was something like the 260th sell out game in a row in Vancouver. Anyone know which game was the last one not to sell out in Vancouver?

Plus you now have your "two 1st round picks and a second round pick" saviour in the lineup. The big 40 goal man,or at least he was last year when Bergeron was firing him precision passes on a stellar PP,neither of which(Bergeron,Stellar PP) you have.Brillant move Burke.

I bet there is a lot pissed of people who bet on Washington to win, either on Pro Line or in suicide pools.

Hell, if I were a bettor I'd have put money on The Caps in last night's game.
Who knew?

Lets see if they can make it two in a row tonight against the Islanders.
It will be good to see Tavares and Moulson play for the hometown fans.

Laroque got 5 games for his knee on knee hit on Kronwell the other night. While I don't condone such hits, I do take a sick satisfaction that it took out one the dirtier players in the league,Kronwell, for an extended period of time.

Re: The official NHL thread
I figured 2 in a row was asking too much, but to give credit where credit is due, they're looking ok. I mean come on...61 shots on goal in one game...hasn't been done in 37 (or 33-can't remember) years.grizzly31 wrote:Lets see if they can make it two in a row tonight against the Islanders.
The season is a quarter done, and their play offs (were there any to begin with? ) are dashed obviously - but somehow they're playing better.
Rumours are now swirling about a 'big trade' with Chicago, a Leaf for a first round pick. Who didn't see this coming; the regret over giving up first round picks?
They're at an all time low, there's nowhere to go but up. (Maybe next year.)

Re: The official NHL thread
They will be taking salary back (Sopel), and a pick. In a sense doing Chicago a favor, like they did with Tampa at last seasons trade deadline. I don't think they need another defenseman, try getting a forward to play with Kessel.krazeebaybee wrote:I figured 2 in a row was asking too much, but to give credit where credit is due, they're looking ok. The play offs are out of reach, but they have to get out of the basement, at least the lottery picks anyway, so Boston doesn't get the first overall pick. They would really look stupid then.

Marian Hossa makes his debut and scores two goals (including one of the Hawks' three short-handed goals), and the Blackhawks roll over the Sharks 7-2 in San Jose.
The "circus trip", which usually kills the Hawks, is flawless so far - 4 games, 4 wins. 8 straight wins overall since Jonathan Toews returned from his injury.
The Hawks are looking pretty damn good right now!

Team of the moment thats for sure. Certainly got good depth as far as I can tell. Although questions over the goalie position, but their defense is so solid they've had the fewest shots against I believe.Lardbucket wrote:Marian Hossa makes his debut and scores two goals (including one of the Hawks' three short-handed goals), and the Blackhawks roll over the Sharks 7-2 in San Jose.

And of course they go out and lay an egg in Anaheim today.
Just never looked comfortable - of course, the Ducks' style of play can make you look sloppy.
Gotta rebound against the Kings tomorrow night.

What the fuck is with the Florida Panthers third uniforms?
They look like the Penguins rejects, you would think that they would come up with something original.

We're #29...again! God, that's sad.
But admit it, last night's game kicked all kinds of Panther ass.
Oh, and God Bless Patrick Marleau...hat trick! (Have him in my fantasy hockey pool)

Habs had already beaten the Leafs twice this year. They weren't going to sweep the season series - no matter where the two are in the standings, they always, more or less, wind up splitting their games.grizzly31 wrote:Ole ole ole ole... hahhahaha!!
Bad time for the Habs to have a horrific night, but the injuries are taking their toll.

Re: The official NHL thread
Is it me, or are there just WAY more injuries this year, throughout the league?
And Gustavsson's 'accelerated hear rate' scare last night, might not bode well for The Leafs
with Toskala already on the IR.
But all that aside, last night's game was pretty damn wonderful.

Re: The official NHL thread
There are a lot of conspiracy theories of guys (stars) getting injured because they've removed certain performance enhancing substances from their regimens so as to not get busted for doping at the Olympics. I have no idea if stopping steroid/substance use, either gradually or rapidly, can lead to injury, but this is the theory that has been thrown around.krazeebaybee wrote:Is it me, or are there just WAY more injuries this year, throughout the league?
Re: The official NHL thread
It's not just you. My fantasy teams have both been repeatedly decimated by injury. Every time I turn around there's a new guy on the IR.krazeebaybee wrote:Is it me, or are there just WAY more injuries this year, throughout the league?
