Gonzalez is the only thing the Padres have going for them. Well, OK, they have Heath Bell. And hey, David Eckstein! Whoopee.
You know that the Padres new GM Hoyer worked for Theo & the Sox until recently, right? Talk around here is that the package was agreed on in principal when Hoyer left. First SD will try to negotiate an extension with Gonzales first and if he doesn't take the hometown discount he's headed to Boston. Hoyer knows the Sox farm as well as Theo and it would give SD a chance to rebuild and dump more salary.

Gonzalez should be the Padres' franchise player; he could be the next Tony Gwynn. I'd hate to see him go but it wouldn't surprise me to see it happen; the Padres have consistently screwed their fans ever since the stadium got built. This would be just another example of that.

I knew when Hoyer got the SD GM job, all the discussions would turn to Adrian Gonzalez and trade rumours. Hoyer helped develop Theo's 100 million dollar player development machine. So he knows which prospects he likes.

I think it's too soon personally to put alot of thought into it. Hoyer just got there. He has to assess the situation more, before moving the franchise's star player. I think the FO will stay out of the Holliday sweepstakes, I also think Bay stays. All indications on both sides are just waiting for the market for Holliday to play out so they can negotiate a price. It would surprise me to see him go.

As for the Halladay trade rumours. Those are from John Heyman. Who is basically just now bringing out what was supposably discussed at the trade deadline. I would put more stock in what Machado says than Heyman  . I wouldn't give up the prospects it would take to get him. Buchholz? Pass.

What it would take to get both Gonzalez and Halladay? No thanks. I'd rather not rape the Farm system. They'll do something, but the tidbits flying around right now are Peter Gammons level stupid.

Work out a new deal with Beckett. Continue to develop Buchholz. Work out a new deal with Martinez. Ask Epstein what he want's to do with Shortstop.....then DO THE EXACT FUCKING OPPOSITE. Team should be okay.

Can you hit a curveball?

Me? I can't. Which is probably why I could never make it to the Majors ( no I didn't try ). Anyways it's always fucked with me. I can't even hit them playing Wii.

Anyways I found this cool illusion thing to play with. Showing peripherals, and the like for those of you who can't hit the curve like me.....and Troy Tulowitzki.

http://illusioncontest.neuralcorrelate. ... curveball/

In baseball, a curveball creates a physical effect and a perceptual puzzle. The physical effect (the curve) arises because the ball’s rotation leads to a deflection in the ball’s path. The perceptual puzzle arises because the deflection is actually gradual but is often perceived as an abrupt change in direction (the break).

Dude, I looked like Ryan Howard trying to hit a curveball. Holy shit, I'd walk back to the bench after twisting myself into the dirt and just be shaking my head. These were garden variety 16 year old legion ball curves too, not Bert Blyleven 12 to 6 pitches.

Fuck curve balls, mang.

Mariners sign Jack Wilson 2/10.

You can tell Tom Tango is a part of the M's FO building such a defense minded team, their #1 picks in the draft this season were all + fielders too. Defensively they'll have 3 elite ( Guiterrez, Ichiro, Wilson ), possibly 4 if they re-sign Beltre or Figgins. Wilson's bat is non-existent with effects his WAR, think 1.0 to - 2.

They're defense last season was outstanding. That's probably why King Feliz likes pitching there. They had the lowest ERA because of it. They were also last in Runs Scored ( 640 with a DH  ), so they need to add a bat. The rebuilding process seems to be underway.

I think Boston should've picked up AGonz's option. Someone is sure to sign him to a two year deal, especially if this is setting the market.

The Red Sox are talking to Lackey. Too bad Lackey sucks in Fenway Park. I can't see handing him the ball 18 times a season there.

I wouldn't put to much into it. They "talked" to Sabbathia too.

There is no way that the FO want's to break the bank on him. Also remember there were reports coming out from Japan that they offered Matsui a multi-year deal too. Keep in mind team's can't offer players contracts until 15 days after the WS.

Because I'm a bitter Sox fan, this line is from a letter to Jeff Passan (Yahoo MLB writer):

"Rooting for the Yankees is like going to Las Vegas and rooting for the casinos."

True.

NL Manager Of The Year: Jim Tracy

AL Manager Of The Year: Mike Scosscia.

Can't say I disagree with those choices. For the AL I think that Gardenhire deserved a lot of consideration, for what he did with the Twins.

Good picks IMO.

AL Cy Young:

Zack Greinke - 134 [including 25 of 28 first-place votes]

Felix Hernandez - 80

Justin Verlander - 14

CC Sabathia - 13

Roy Halladay - 11

No surprises here. I'd like to know who the three asshats who didn't vote Greinke number one are. Both CC and Halladay didn't recieve any first place votes.

That was to be expected. Even Theo said the same thing. It's his venture into Free Agency. He has stated his preference to stay in Boston numerous times. We'll see what happens. If you have a possibility to make maybe twice that, wouldn't you look into it?

Josh Johnson possibly on the trade market. OK, Tawny, what positions do the Marlins really need help in? Dude would be a sweet acquisition.

I think Johnson would net them a prospect along the lines of Hanley. He's got two years before Free Agency too. They'll score big with that one.

Christ, it'll be a fucking disaster if this happens. Just read the article in the paper about this, I really thought they were going to sign him to a long term deal. Still holding out hope. He'll be a FA in 2011. Fuck, we need him there for the new ballpark!

Just imagine how fucking good Florida would be if they could keep most of their star prospects - who eventually get traded to other teams where they flourish even more - beyond when they have them on the cheap. My god, that team would be scary!

It must be hard to be a fan of them. While they consistently field a .500+ team, they could be so much better if they'd keep more of their players.

Totally.

Think Florida Marlins 2003, or Tampa Bay Rays 2008.

NL Cy Young. 2 voters left Carpenter completely off their ballots.

There's no problem with the overall result of Lincecum winning because I probably would have voted for him 1st, but how can someone leave the 2nd best pitcher completely off their ballot?

More proof that the MLB writers have a bunch of morons in their ranks.

Here's some more on Josh Johnson. His ERA increased every month, I think he may have been getting tired.

April 2.60
May 2.72
June 2.95
July 3.30
Aug 3.86
Sept 4.11
Total 3.23 (14th)

His FIP is great and tells a different story.
April 2.61
May 3.05
June 2.34
July 4.06
Aug 2.56
Sept 3.19
Total 3.06 (4th)

His tRA (3.41) GB% (50.3 %) are pretty good. His WAR (5.5) is good for 7th in the NL.

He throws a fastball (4-seam), slider, and a circle-change. I didn't look too much into it, but it appears all are ranked as plus pitches.

Johnson trade talks will stir more media speculation than Halladay IMO ( who MLBN reports will not re-sign with Toronto ).

Johnson is under control for the next two years, and Halladay will be gone at the end of next year. That makes Johnson way more attractive.

More reason for MLB to have a cap with a floor. At the very least they ought to make rules for the teams getting the luxury tax money. They should force a team to spend their luxury money plus their share of the road gate minus travel expenses on payroll.
