No surprise there. He was deserving. Unlike Morneau in 2006. At least Jeter didn't get cheated again.Facedown wrote:Mauer AL MVP.

He can win with Duquette's team, but the one thing Theo can't handle is shortstop.
Alex Gonzalez signs with Toronto. It's fucking stupid to let that guy go.
Theo is also reportably still going hard after trading for Halladay. The only problem with that is I think it's insane to part with Buchholz to do it.

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
Theo couldn't point out a good shortstop if he was visiting Cooperstown. I don't know why he is so insistent on getting production at SS. It's the one position on the field where you shouldn't sacrifice glove for bat. Gonzalez solidified that position and didn't do too bad a job with his bat. He's only the best defensive SS that has been in Boston since Rooster. But hey, why would a guy obsessed with OBP at every position care about defense? And by the way, Lowrie is DONE because of his wrist. He's a utility guy at bestkilleverything wrote:He can win with Duquette's team, but the one thing Theo can't handle is shortstop.
I'm hearing they are after Miguel Cabrera as well as Halliday. I'd like to see them swing deals for both of them and re-sign Bay. The other thing I was hoping for was that the'd bring back Gonzales but Theo already fucked that up.
The one thing I don't want is more scrap heap pitchers. That hasn't panned out at all.

There's reports coming out that Selig is stepping down as Commisioner in 2012. I'll have more on it later. Remember that the last two times he's said this, he signed extensions. So take it what it's worth.
You can wonder why he would want to continue after the world ends.
For that I have. Selig and cockroaches. Cockroaches and Selig.

If the Yankees make a trade, the players said to be leaving could be either/or, Hughes, Joba, Jesus Montero(Top Catching prospect), Austin Jackson(Top CF prospect on the verge of making the big club).
I'd had a hard time parting with all of those players.

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
Where Toronto's new GM is going to have difficulty is, Halladay has stated he will not approve a trade after the start of Spring Training. Plus whatever team aquires him will have to work out an extension before hand, probably Vernon Wells' monster contract too. Added to the fact his age and the prospects it would take to get him.Machado wrote:killeverything wrote: Theo is also reportably still going hard after trading for Halladay. There is no way in hell I'd part with Buchholz. If I was a filthy MFY, there would be no way in hell I part with Hughes either. Halladay while one of, if not the best pitcher in the AL. Is not worth giving up pieces it would take to get Felix Hernandez for.
Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
is there a chance that the jays will lower the asking price, based on 1 fact and 1 only:
that they possibly could be asking for far too much and by doing that, no team will be biting???
just a question: not sure if that is a legit scenario or not.
Halladay has already stated he would approve a trade to the Yankees. so i guess that is step one. i am unaware if he has done similar for other clubs. you tell me.
as of right now, giving up Hughes is just asking far to much. i just would not like to see that at all.
regarding having to give Halladay an extension, of course the Yankees afford that. can the Yankees afford to give up more than 1 of their top prospect(s)/proven MLB player(s)

There's a possibility that they'll lower their asking price ( although no one knows for sure what they want ), but they won't do it to a team within their Division.Machado wrote:is there a chance that the jays will lower the asking price, based on 1 fact and 1 only:

The biggest factor I see, and also the reason Ricciardi was fired is Vernon Wells monster contract. I think that any team that trades for Halladay, will also have to take Vernon Wells and the $$$$ that goes with it.

I dunno. How many teams can afford to take on Vernon Wells AND sign Halladay to a long-term deal? I think adding Wells would take the Angels out of the running, which leaves...Yankees, Red Sox, and ???

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
That's just a theory of mine. I don't think Halladay gets traded because of it. He has one year left on his contract, so he's not screaming "get me out of here!" The FA pool in 2011 is going to be deeper, especially for pitchers. So I think a lot of team's will hold onto their prospects, with hopes for 2011.tin00can wrote:killeverything wrote:There's a possibility that they'll lower their asking price ( although no one knows for sure what they want ), but they won't do it to a team within their Division.Machado wrote:is there a chance that the jays will lower the asking price, based on 1 fact and 1 only:

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
Yeah, but I don't think they will. They have also contacted "automatic out" Baseball's best Short Stop Adam Everett. Since his OBP is so low, they would have to be changing their entire mentality, and going with a superior defense team. That would mean moving Lowell ( somehow ) and signing Beltre. Or move Pedroia and sign both Betre and Hudson.Machado wrote:Did you read the ESPN reportkilleverything wrote:There's a possibility that they'll lower their asking price ( although no one knows for sure what they want ), but they won't do it to a team within their Division.Machado wrote:is there a chance that the jays will lower the asking price, based on 1 fact and 1 only:

It's all speculation. For the superior leftside IF defense to truly work they would need a GB specialist pitcher. Someone like King Felix, which we all know isn't going to happen.
Fucking Hot Stove.

Since I dislike, I mean HATE the sox with a passion, I would welcome the move from 2B to SS. It would make them much weaker

Not unless they couldn't find a great 2B to replace Pedroia. Pedroia came up as a SS, he made the switch to 2B his rookie season.Machado wrote:Since I dislike, I mean HATE the sox with a passion, I would welcome the move from 2B to SS. It would make them much weaker

what i'm about to say i only know per the same ESPN.COM article, but he lost about 20 lbs in order to become a 2B because he was too heavy and unable to play SS good enough to stick there.

It's always about arbitration and draft picks when it comes to type A players. Personally, I woulda liked to see Wagner back. You can never have too many arms, and your bullpen is never deep enough.Machado wrote:the red sox will now get 2 players for losing wagner.Facedown wrote:Wagner signs with the Braves for 1yr.

Happy for Billy being able to close though. Now he has a chance to solidify a HOF spot.

i didn't follow the phils until the series, but i remember feliz made a nice play and one of the horrible broadcasters from Fox mentioned feliz and gold glove in the same sentence.
if true, polanco brings the team another strong glove, but less power from the 3b position.
polanco leaving the A.L. gives other 2nd baseman a chance at the gold glove

Seems like an awful lot of money for Philly to spend on Polanco. He's a nice hitter, no power, good glove. They're paying him $6M a year and I don't think Chone Figgins is going to get much more than that, and he's a better player. Kind of a head scratcher. Plus his bat plays much better at 2B than 3B since the hot corner is a 'power' position. But I guess having Utley at second negates that to an extent.

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
I honestly thought they'd give a look at Garrett Atkins. They have a kid in the minors named Jason Donald who is listed as an SS but he will probably come up at 3B. Also not a power hitter but the guy is a hit machine who has a career .360 OBP.JakeYonkel wrote:Seems like an awful lot of money for Philly to spend on Polanco.
