Re: The official NHL thread
Blackhawks are going to announce 5-year deals for Toews and Kane and a 13-year deal for Duncan Keith tomorrow.
Hawks are doing like the 90's Indians did, locking up the core players to long-term deals.
I still think they could use an upgrade in goal.

Re: The official NHL thread
A good man,Stevens, took the hit for a team that was projected to be a force in the Eastern Conference.Part of the problem,IMO, is that this projection was unwarranted.Sure the addition of Pronger helped shore up their lacklustre defence, but Ray Emery was hardly an upgrade in goal. He's not a bad goalie, but he's not in the elite category by any stretch. Carter had an amazing season goal wise last year, but started to fade late into that campaign and was non-existant in the playoffs. He has 9 goals to date, not bad, but hardly the numbers the Flyer brass were hoping for.Giroux has also not taken the next step in progressing.Throw in an injured Simon Gagne and a rumored Richards/Pronger rivalry that has divided the dressing room and you've got trouble.

Habs lousy (but improving) so far this year, yet 2-0 vs the B's after last Friday's whitewashing.chungasrevenge wrote:In Tuukka we trust!

Battle of Ontario tonight.
The last game was very entertaining, other than my team lost.
Ottawa is 4 - 5 - 1 in their last 10 with a 2 game wining streak
Toronto is 7 - 3 - 0 in their last 10 and win the last one.
This is the proverbial 4 point game
go leafs go

Got it back tonight though.
Good game for the Rangers. Isles were in it most of the night but Henrik looked awesome.
Apparently there was a players only meeting today which was run by Lundqvist and.......Sean Avery. Yeah, I know.
Drury started on the 4th line tonight and Kotalik and Redden were scratched. Torts isn't perfect but at least he doesn't care about contracts or the name on the back of the jerseys when it comes to sitting/benching guys.

Yeah, B's are slumping. Lucic coming back will help, but I think we'll see them make a deal soon for some offensive help. Maybe use one of the Leaf's picks. As bad as the first goal was last night, Rask should be the number #1 as of now.krazeebaybee wrote:Toronto beats Boston (and The Monster gets a shutout)
B's/ Leafs games have had a little juice to them this year.

I've been wondering why Rask isn't the #1 goalie, guy's pretty damn good.chungasrevenge wrote:Yeah, B's are slumping. Wasn't he picked up by the Leafs, and almost immediately traded? Silly move on the Leafs part; then again, they're known for their 'odd' moves.

The Leafs traded him for Andrew Raycroft. Not the best move. Where the hell is Raycroft now?krazeebaybee wrote:I've been wondering why Rask isn't the #1 goalie, guy's pretty damn good.chungasrevenge wrote:Yeah, B's are slumping. I have a feeling Julien is still going to give the bulk of the work to Thomas until it's panic time, but if the playoff's started today, I want Rask in net. He's the type of goalie that can steal a series. The media is starting to get on the Rask bandwagon around here and there were some Tuuka chants at the Garden the other night when Thomas was in net, so Julien might feel pressure if they lose a few more here.

There, once again, is a shining example of the Leafs management "building a new team."
A lot of people have been blaming the Leaf goalies this year, but ya know, it isn't them. Toskala's shaping up, Gustavsson is coming into his own, quite nicely...and as far as scoring the Leafs are doing that too.
Well at least we're not in 30th place any more...there's always a silver lining.

Congrats to Brodeur for setting the record for most shutouts, even if it was against the Penguins.
As well: Right now,Mike Fisher is probably NOT dabbing on three dollars worth of that bathroom Polo. Traded to the Predators this summer, book it.

Is Kovalchuk on the trading block? Hearing some whispers out of Boston. Maybe the B's aren't going to hold onto those #1 picks from the Leafs. Too good to be true.

Re: The official NHL thread
He's a UFA at the end of the year, so he can pretty much dictate things. The risk the Bruins, or any team that acquires him, takes is that they give up a mint for him and then he signs elsewhere in the off-season - like Hossa did with the Penguins (though, in retrospect, they didn't give up all that much).chungasrevenge wrote:Is Kovalchuk on the trading block? I think he can help the Bruins, but I just don't know if it's their year - they seem snakebit. Long term, I don't see Kovalchuk as a "Brew-in", then again neither was Marc Savard...
