Re: Brett Farve = Playoff Bitch
First off, Vick isn't sticking around. They would have signed him already. I think that with the talent of the young receivers, Kevin Kolb will be great. He's more of a pocket passer and can get the ball to the WR, something that eludes McNabb at times. Andy Reid can talk all he wants about Donovan staying in Philly, but with those huge backloaded contract years coming up, it would make sense to get some value for him (IE some offensive linemen and some secondary help, as well as draft picks). Reid is a great talent evaluator and I have no doubt that a few teams would make a great offer. For the record, I think Brian Westbrook is done also.Tymaster wrote:Don't understand Philly and why they (the city and the team apparently) would want to dump Donovan. The only rationale to me, is that he is aging, and this may the last year he demands market power. In Cleveland there are rumblings of sending off their first round pick!
And yes, I think Kolb has a bright future, and with Vick as a back-up, the Eagles would be fine, but to me, that seems unfair to Donovan. However, I won't be crying over any pro football players. The league minimum is more money than I'll ever carry in my bank account.

As long as the new labor agreement gives the owners back ten percent of total revenues you may be right. I'm stunned how little the players have done to reach out to owners regarding an A) uncapped 2010 and Secondly) a serious chance of no football in 2011. Why isn't the union doing anything about this? Every owner but McCaskey can afford to shut it down for a year or longer. The mere fact that he had the Vikings still in the game even after all those inexcusable fumbles by Peterson, Harvin, and Berrian reinforces my opinion that he's the greatest QB who ever lived. With the deck stacked against him, he had them tied and on the Saints' 33 yard line late in the 4th quarter. Then the 12th man in the huddle backed them up 5 yards and put him in a situation where he had no choice but to force that throw in a desperate attempt to get back into reasonable FG range. Had he thrown the ball away they're looking at a 56 yard FG attempt and they still lose in OT. He did everything he could and led a mediocre team way deeper into the playoffs than they could have gone without him. That's the true measure of greatness.

That's just it - he had two other choices. The entire viewing audience, minus P13, saw it. You saw it too - you just won't admit it here after flogging he's taken for being a clutch situation choke artist.
Fumbles plagues them before he arrived.
They got to the playoffs and didn't win before he arrived.
He did NOTHING for them, except move some jerseys and fill some seats. ON the field the results were the same.

He could have ran for at least 5 or laid it out in the flat for at least 7, anyone who say's different is a blind mother fucker. Either way it's still a very good chance for a successful Longwell FG.

Yep, completely this. Favre did what Favre always does. He made a boneheaded throw that probably cost his team the Superbowl. Exactly. FACT is that Favre got them to the conference championship game. FACT is that the vikings had six fumbles. You don't normally win games when you have six fumbles. Nobody is calling Favre a failure. He is what he is. A very, very good quarterback who has a penchant for doing very stupid things when the game, or season, is on the line.
Re: Brett Farve = Playoff Bitch
Well obviously it was a bad play from every aspect, but I don't see how you can pin the whole loss on Favre when he had played great up to that point, especially for someone who was hit over 15 times, often illegally. Heck, if he completes that throw, it probably goes down as one of the great post season performances for a QB.bane wrote:Nobody is calling Favre a failure. He is what he is. Who's pinning it all on him? The fumbles and other factors put them in that position, but the fact remains that they were within 5 yards of the potential winning field goal at the end of regulation when he threw a bonehead pick, just like he has done many times in the past.
Re: Brett Farve = Playoff Bitch
A lot of people are pinning the loss on him, in this thread and in the media, and that's unfair. The reality for anyone who watched the game is that Favre actually played well with the exception of that last play.bane wrote:Who's pinning it all on him? FACT is a qb is NEVER supposed to throw across his body. FACT is a qb is NEVER supposed to throw without his feet set. FACT is a qb is NEVER supposed to throw off his back foot.
Yes, in spite of all of that, he had them in a position to win. And that's the problem; someone with that many years experience should not make that throw, ESPECIALLY with the amount of turnovers they had. He needs to be able to recognize that they were fortunate to even be in that position to begin with and either dump it in the flat, or take the hit going up the middle.
Nobody here (that I am aware of) has ever questioned his ability. It's his amazing lack of intelligence and awareness that gets questioned.
And of course they want him back; not only are they on the books for his salary, but they also still have a stadium to think about and luckily there are enough people out there who think he's some sort of clutch qb like Manning or Montana. They might as well take the hit and hope they can overcome his meltdowns since their positional salary cap situation is fucked anyway.

Re: Brett Farve = Playoff Bitch
I'm so tired of hearing the "he should have ran" line. The man left the game with an ankle injury and hobbled the rest of the game. Favre is not a running quarterback at 100% health, so why would he turn into that at much less than 100%. Favre is a passer and he tried to make a play when his first two targets were covered. He knew he had to get yardage. It's just football. That happens.

What's your point? Favre has made some amazing plays doing exactly what you just described. I don't recall anyone complaining about his mechanics when he made those throws. Obviously it's not proper form for a QB, but Favre has always gone against the grain and been successful doing things that you supposedly aren't supposed to do.
