Boras now has stated that the Yankees never once made an offerJakeYonkel wrote:Well Randy Winn's kinda got that 'suck' thing goin on, so...
Maybe that's not his exact words, but that made me laugh.Machado wrote:Cashman has said for weeks the Yankees had a budget and that basically Damon was asking far more than they could afford.

Abreu last year would have gotten an arbitration raise on his $16M salary. Winds up signing a one year deal for $5M.
Matsui makes $13M last year, signs for less than half that this year.
Damon makes $13M last year, Boras wants another 2 year/$26M deal. Yankees call the bluff. He'll wind up with a one year deal in that same $5M ballpark.
For all the credit Boras gets, if you think about it he's really only great at getting money for the big guns. I mean, who couldn't have gotten Teixeira $180M? If you're over the hill though he's your worst enemy.
I don't think it's all that impressive, because he wanted to bring Traitor back. The Trust Fund kids said "no", they committed half a billion dollars on the team last year. I don't care how much money they have, at that rate it will run out.Machado wrote:Cashman seems to be batting 1,000 of lateJakeYonkel wrote:Say what you want about Cashman, but make this two straight years where he's read the market EXACTLY right.

I didn't have time earlier to include the Abreu situation, but you are correct about how well Cash has read the market.
Ken Rosenthal wrote this about the Yankees/Damon divorce:
Boras, who told The New York Times that the Yankees never even made Damon an offer, needed to shop his client to other teams more aggressively.
There is simply no excuse for a player of this quality to be in such a compromised position.
Damon, 36, had a higher adjusted OPS last season than Bobby Abreu — a career-high adjusted OPS, in fact. Abreu, who is five months younger than Damon, re-signed with the Angels for $19 million over two years without even becoming a free agent. Damon is scrounging for a job.
Raul Ibanez, 37, signed a three-year, $31.5 million free-agent contract with the Phillies in an even worse economy last off-season.
Mike Cameron, 37, signed a two-year, $15.5 million free-agent contract with the Red Sox this off-season.
Where’s Johnny?
True, Damon is a below-average defender, but Ibanez hardly was considered Gold Glove material. Neither was Adam Dunn, who signed a two-year, $20 million free-agent contract with the Nationals last off-season, nor Pat Burrell, who signed a two-year, $16 million deal with the Rays.
Oh I agree with you about Montero he's ranked pretty high by pretty much everybody.JakeYonkel wrote:Jackson was more of a basketball player, if I remember correctly. So he was a little raw with his baseball skills.
Not a ton of pop but a great athlete. I guess at worst he's Joey Gathright, at best he's BJ Upton. Not that there's anything wrong with that but it's not like the guy was gonna be Pujols or Manny.
The guy to look out for is Jesus Montero. I saw him in spring training '07 when he was like 17 or 18 years old. He's gonna be a MONSTER.

I saw that yesterday. I was going to post about it, but I just figured what's the point? I think Tampa's going to be pretty tough this year, but what really throws me off about their analysis is the RS and RA. Two team's that aren't leading the league in RA, are two of the best defensive teams with their upgrades ( Seattle and Boston ).JakeYonkel wrote:Yeah and they've got the Yankees in third.bighairdiscs wrote:Apparently, Baseball Prospectus has come up with their prediction for the upcoming season in the AL East..... the Champions? Plus while I would love to see the MFY miss the Playoffs, that's a billion dollar All-Star team. There is no way they do. Traitor and Matsui had monster years, but aren't the reason they won. Teix and Arod are.
Shame my ass. I want to see him play out the rest of his career with someone like Pittsburgh or Washington for the League minimum.Machado wrote:Damon and Boras are to blame for no longer being a Yankee player.
Neither wanted to swallow their pride and accept the fact that Damon is no longer a $13 million per year player.
He can not play CF anymore. Damon is a LF/DH at this point in his career.
Is that worth $13 million per? I don't think so.
So now he's without a team and probably going to a team that won't be a contender.
Such a shame!!
I don't think the Sox are a playoff team this season. There's no offense, and playing in Fenway a team needs to score runs to win because the small field takes away a lot of the defense.killeverything wrote:I saw that yesterday. Poetic justice is Johnny Traitor ending his career in KC.killeverything wrote:Shame my ass. I want to see him play out the rest of his career with someone like Pittsburgh or Washington for the League minimum.Machado wrote:Damon and Boras are to blame for no longer being a Yankee player.

Fuck him. Even the MFY fans agree now.
Well Boston hates him because he claimed he'd never play for the Yankees and then he went for the money and did.killeverything wrote:Shame my ass. Everyone knows Boston shoulda brought him back in '05. It blows my mind how short his stays are with teams.
Yeah, I just wasn't thinking about it. He was one of the 25, so I don't get why Boston let him go....although the draft picks they got from the 2004 FA is amazing.JakeYonkel wrote:I got the feeling he's a shithead.killeverything wrote:He must be a real character, and not in a good way for him to be given the contracts he has.Facedown wrote:Orlando Cabrera signs with Reds 1yr/3mil.

I was at game 1 of the ALDS in Tampa when he was with the White Sox 2 years ago - Grant Balfour and he almost got into it. Cabrera thought Balfour was talking shit on the mound and started barking at him and kicked dirt at him.
Five years ago yeah, I don't know why Boston let him walk, unless it was really because of the fact that he's a dick.
But since getting traded to Boston in 04...
1/2 year in Boston
3 years in LA, then traded for Jon Garland...
1 year in Chicago
1/2 year Oakland
1/2 year Minnesota
His value is pretty low since his defense is heading south, and is his hitting ability. So yeah, that coupled with being a fuck probably doesn't help his cause. And it's rumored he refused to move off SS, so that severely limited his options.
