Re: The official Olympic Hockey thread
Nice to see Canada show up, in a BIG way, for the Russian game. The way they came out in the first period was incredible. They played the same way in the US game, but Nabokov is no Ryan Miller - that's for sure. I can't believe the Russian coach didn't pull Nabby after the 1st! Any astute NHL observer could tell you that Bryzgalov has been the better goalie this year anyways - Nabokov just plays for a stacked team.
Looks like the stars are aligning for a US/Canada final on Sunday afternoon. I hope NBC isn't commited to showing a tractor pull, or anything important like that...

The average sports fan in the US is an idiot.LAglamrocker wrote:how much does America care, the Canada game wasn't on NBC it was on a cable news channel
the average sport fan "what the USA has a womens hockey team?..really"
The medal rounds are going to be on NBC. How can they show all of the 30 or so preliminary hockey games in prime time? Just about every sport has been covered on MSNBC, CNBC and NBC. How fucking hard is it to turn the channel? If you're a hockey fan, the games haven't been hard to find. Unless you don't have cable, but in that case you probably have bigger problems.

I couldn't believe he didn't pull him. The defense was soft, but you have to do something.WOLF wrote: I can't believe the Russian coach didn't pull Nabby after the 1st! It didn't air in L.A.. "Ellen" and "Days Of Our Lives" were on. They might have buried it on KNBC's digital channel, but local network Olympic coverage here hasn't started until 3 pacific on weekdays.chungasrevenge wrote:The game was on NBC at 3, at least on the East Coast.Garbageman wrote:Damn Russia... show some Ivan fuckin' Drago pride!

Everyone's all up in arms at the Canadian women's hockey team because they smoked cigars and drank beer on the ice after the medal ceremony. I think it's FUCKING AWESOME, and to hell with these stuffy douchebags who think otherwise.

Re: The official Olympic Hockey thread
it wasn't a literal 'everyone', it was an 'everyone' meaning the Olympic bureaucracy. People are talking about banning them from the closing ceremonies and shit like that.

Re: The official Olympic Hockey thread
Good on the Canadian women for knocking a few back after a well earned victory! The IOC is filled with a bunch of unrealistic morons that think any substance other than water is blasphemous. Here's a couple pics:
GM Place was completely empty while they were doing this and I for one applaud them.
On a side note, Women's hockey truly needs to go on hiatus as an Olympic sport. Besides Canada and the U.S., the skill level is absolutely dreadful. I say this with complete honesty that I could have been on any of the teams besides Canada/U.S. and I sure as hell ain't no Olympian

Re: The official Olympic Hockey thread
Apparently, some of the flack is coming from the fact that one the girls drinking was Marie-Phillipe Poulin, who is 18. It is the legal drinking age in Quebec, but not BC. Also, Coors isn't an official sponsor of the games, so that's got some folks pissed off (hey - maybe we could get Ryan Miller banned).Royal Dudeness wrote:Good on the Canadian women for knocking a few back after a well earned victory! People DO need to get a life, most of all the reporters and photogs, who were the only ones left in the building, and successfully tried to make a story of this. If they had just let the team have their moment, the world wouldn't know or care.
Finally, re Women's hockey: I agree that it needs to be removed from the Olympics until it's more competitive. There are three tiers - Canada/US, Sweden/Finland, and everyone else. Until other countries devote the resources to the sport, they won't develop and the results of any competition will be a foregone conclusion. You can't have Canada outscoring their opponents 18-0 in the Olympics - it's not what the games are about. They should have their World Championship yearly, and tournaments, but not the Olympics. Canada and the US, much like in Men's hockey, need to be allowed to send their people over to coach and play in the European leagues. Countries like Switzerland, Norway, Germany, Belarus et al are now much more competitive on the Men's side because of Canadian and American coaching.
Go Canada go!

Canada/USA is the way it should be. Now we just have to do our part to set-up the rematch. Ryan Miller scares the bejesus out of me. He's on fire. Canada played great against the US in the prelim round and they couldn't beat him. Now, he'll be in their heads....doctordestructo wrote:USA 6, Finland 1

I must agree though. The hawks and ducks players have stepped it up. The Sharks have done quite well too. Sunday is going to be out of control

Scott Burnside from ESPN is such an idiot:
http://sports.espn.go.com/olympics/wint ... id=4950512
Please tell me, my American friends, that this isn't being protrayed in the US media as a "miracle on ice" scenario. 1980 was a bunch of college kids defeating a team of professionals who routinely beat NHL squads and ran roughshod over every other team in their era - truly the greatest sports upset in history IMO. 2010 is a bunch of millionaires playing another bunch of millionaires. One team is better on paper, but the game isn't played on paper. The US may very well win, and it won't be a miracle.
