It's just empty posturing. Iran sending an armed escort in order to break an Israeli blockade is an act of war. I don't think Ali Khamenei wants to be deposed quite yet.

How would the Iranian Navy get ships into the Mediterranean if the U.S. Sixth Fleet didn't let them exit the Suez Canal? Or enter it from the other side, for that matter?

I wonder if the Iranian Navy is even capable of sailing around the Cape of Good Hope if they couldn't use the Suez Canal? For that matter, even if they could, would they be able to get past Gibraltar?

Not that I'm sure we would intervene, but you know the Israelis would decimate any Iranian Navy forces that went against them aznyway. And I wouldn't be surprised if Israelis jets weren't on their way to bomb Iran at the same time they went after the naval escort.
