Since the perfect game and gracing the cover of S.I. in early May,
braden has not won a game.

6 starts since the perfect game.
a's have lost all 6 games
braden has received the losing decision in 4 of those games.
Or maybe because he's a lousy fucking pitcher that had the stars align for one game.

Question regarding Stasburg:

How many here believe he will play his entire career as a Nat?

Why not? DC is a major market, and if that team ever starts winning they can rake in the $$$'s and keep whoever they want. So far it looks like they have a future #1 pitcher and a couple of solid arms behind him. They are good at 3rd, 1st, & LF, and have the RF of the future who they just drafted. The minor league has a C, SS, & RHP that should be up in a year or so. If they get to the point where they can spend money they can add in some free agents and be very good for quite some time. So why couldn't Strasburg stay in DC, as much as any player can stay where they are for their career in a decent market.

If they continue to be smart in the draft (although having back to back #1 picks doesn't require much intelligence) and develop a couple of pitchers, they can easily make a few years of sucking turn into sustained success - the Tampa formula. In a crappier division than the AL East, too.

I would think they would want to lock up Strasburg, but with Boras as his agent, the best they'll likely do will be to sign him to a deal that covers his team-controlled years anyway and no free agency.

Then again, the guy's MLB career is like 3 days old. It's more likely that he won't win 150 games than that he will. So let's just wait and see.

I do hope you boys tuned in to the MLB Network tonight. JJ and Halladay once again put on a SHOW, this time JJ comes out on top. He retired the last 17 batters. I tip my hat to Doc as well, he pitched a beauty, his only hiccup was the first inning. What a game. 8)

Great bus trip to Milwaukee yesterday. Cubs lose in extras on a 3 base Nady throwing error. A fucking walkoff BUNT. That's a new one Cubs. Hadn't seen that one before. Thanks for keeping it interesting. Faggots.

Reports have Randy Wells being seen at closing time last night at Joes on Weed. If you wager, there's a chance he gets shelled early this afternoon against the Sox.

2nd inning of the Red Sox/Phillies game.

Rookie Daniel Nava comes up to his 1st Major League
at bat with the bases loaded,
Sox down 2-1.

I am thinking to myself, what a great setup for a first at bat.......
......DO IT.

1st pitch.
Into the right field bullpen.
GRAND SLAM.

Daniel Nava's 1st Major League pitch.
1 HR - 4 RBI -

Watched that go down.....Was thinking the same thing when it happened. To bad he choked on his next chance. Still a pretty cool entrance into the Majors.

Did anybody see the plays between the
brewers/angels last night?

brewers player is drilled in the ribs a few innings after hitting a home run.
he goes to 1st. i think you can predict what will happen next.

ground ball hit to 1st.
player that was beaned slides hard/late into 2nd.
rolls up on the angels ss(aybar).

angels ss leaves the game with help. suffers hyper-extended knee.

Yeah, I saw it. I don't think it was a horrible slide; he still hit the base with the slide so it was somewhat legit. If the throw from first had been better Aybar wouldn't have been extended like that and wouldn't have been injured. Lots of "ifs" in there. I try to look at it from the perspective of if it had been an Angel doing that slide, and I probably would have been OK with it.

That said, the Angels are kinda fucked with the injury bug right now. Morales gone for the season, Aybar looking like he's gonna be out for a bit (just when he was hitting his stride), Izturis is on the DL again (big surprise, ha ha - dude is made of glass) - fuck, now we HAVE to start Wood. Fortunately, a no-name pick-up - Kevin Fransden - has been doing well for us. I think if Aybar is out for any period longer than two weeks, a trade will be made, but for whom and at what cost I have no idea.

This is wherre I'd like to reiterate the Cubs let McGhee go to the Brewers for the $20K waiver fee.

The AL East tightened right up. Three teams within 3 games, and the three of them atop the WC standings. This might be fun after all.

LOL... Sosa.

I was at Yankee Stadium in 2006 when he was closing for the Braves and gave up a walk-off HR in extras to A-Rod.

He stinks.

The AL East is getting interesting. Three teams within 1 game. The Red Sox are feasting off NL teams as usual and they always seem to cool off around the All-star break so who knows how long this will last, but it does have the potential to be a good race.

BTW...Josh Johnson is GOD. I guess I have Joe Girardi (and Dr. Andrews) to thank for that? Heh. He is just on a crazy tear now. He should have a much better record than he does, but thanks to our shitty BULLPEN... :x

Speaking of shitty...Jorge Sosa was DFA'd. :)

Going to my first ever big-league games Tuesday and Wednesday nights! Seeing the mighty (although somewhat slumping) Yanks take on the D-Backs down in Phoenix. 31 years and I still have no idea why I haven't just gone somewhere and caught a game. Although I did almost got to see one once...

My Dad and I had tickets to see the Giants and the Astros in the Astrodome back in 1985. My family went on a two week vacation all over the country that July and August, and that game was sure to be the highlight of the trip for me. Age six and I was a total baseball nut. We spent a week back in DC and Pennsylvania before flying down to Houston for a family reunion. It was nice meeting family I'd never seen before, and spending a day at Astroworld, but all I cared about was August 6th. My first Major League game. If you might remember August 6th ended up being day #1 of a two day players strike back in '85. The game was canceled and we ended up going home the next day. Goddammit, I can still see the tickets in my head. I think I've still got them somewhere down at my Dad's place.

Have fun, but the way the D-Backs have played this year calling those games "big league" is a stretch. Oh well, the AAA vs MLB exhibition games can be fun too.
