Platoon (1986) - 9/10
Rambo : First Blood Part II (1985) - 6/10. Didn't hold up as well as I remembered as a kid.

Hot Tub Time Machine--7/10 Decent goofy comedy. It didn't blow me away, but it had its moments.

Saw Home Alone with the five year old. I had forgotten how much inapporpriate language Hughes adds to even his rated PG movies. I had to stress to the boy that if I ever heard him talk like that to his mother we'd have big problems. The scene where Culkin's mom tells him to go upstairs and he says 'I'm already upstairs, dummy' had me laughing and cringing at the same time.
He's like the Liberace of bass & pot.

Last Amercan Virgin - 7/10 (80's goofiness)
Up there with Revenge of The NErds,Fast Times, etc. just with bad acting.
Hadn't seen it since I was in elementary. I fell in love with the curl haired girl with the big nose. She was hot.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think this would have been better if they'd cast Gene Simmons as Randall Flagg as rumored back when they made it.Evil Dead wrote: The Stand: 4.5/5 really good for a Stephen King movie, liked almost everything about this one

Sherlock Holmes was a silly movie that I probably won't watch again. I almost turned it off in the first quarter due to quiet talking LOUD NOISES quiet talking SUPER LOUD FUCKING NOISES. It continued through the whole movie, but I just decided that if they don't give a fuck about my ears then I don't give a fuck about their dialogue. If I miss it I miss it.

Re: Rate the last movie you saw
I noticed this also about this flick. Odd thing about Sherlock Holmes; I've had it from Netflix since the beginning of May. I put it in my queue but for some reason I've just never been in the mood to watch it. I knew I've had it for quite some time but had no idea it's been over 3 months.knuckles.is.contractual wrote:Sherlock Holmes was a silly movie that I probably won't watch again. Finally got around to watching it last week and fucking fell asleep less than half-way through. Fuck! I still have it. It's a matter of principle now. I'm gonna fucking finish this movie... Eventually.

This movie was intolerable. Figures you'd give it such a generous score.theglammerthebetter wrote:The girlfriend experience starring the lovely Sasha Grey 6/10 some parts were very good but most of sub plots made no sense at all and the music was extremely annoying
I got about 40 minutes in before I realized I was watching a movie just to see Sasha Grey naked.

Death Race, absolutely brilliant, a perfect 10. Statham is the best actor of his generation and the cinematography was brilliant, script faultless, great acting all round and a storyline that blows your mind.

Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Finally saw The Runaways. It wasn't particularly good but I like the band so it wasn't a total loss. The dialog was not the greatest but I have to admit I liked the guy that played Kim Fowley and I liked the parts where he gave his general philosophies about what makes good rock and roll. They made Lita Ford such a bitch and otherwise just marginalized her character; that was amusing.
I didn't realize that Cherie and Joan had a lesbian thing. Was that fictionalized?
I read somewhere that Cherie had a rape incident in the movie that got cut out. That would have explained a lot more about her motivations. Seems like they fumbled a lot of shit with this. Oh well.
I guess I'd give it a one quarter chubb rating.

Cherie was raped IRL and yes, Joan and Cherie had a thing. Cherie wrote a book and I highly recommend it.

Finally watched some stuff On Demand. Hell, I pay for all these movie channels might as well watch them.
Zombieland - 8/10 More enjoyable than I expected. Yeah I know it blew everyone's skirt up when it came out but I don't typically do zombie movies. This one had a lot of funny shit. That Jesse Eisenberg kid is a hoot.
Capitalism, A Love Story - 7/10 I like Michael Moore flicks for the most part, and I enjoyed a lot of this as it certainly raises a lot of interesting questions and was quite timely. But it ran a bit long for me.
17 Again - 8/10 Yeah, that seems like a generous score but I was surprised how often I found myself chuckling during this seen-it-a-million-times-before switcharoo film. But I went into it knowing I need to check my expectations at the door and that allowed me to just enjoy the silliness. And the bottle of wine didn't hurt.
Wanted - 1/10 In fairness I only watched twenty minutes of this ridiculous Angelina Jolie action flick. I can suspend my disbelief enough to watch zombies roam the earth, or have adults morph into teenagers, but when a speeding car slams on its brakes and spins with the door open and scoops a person into the passenger seat, I give up.

Windy City Heat--9/10 Directed by Bob Goldthwait, it's a doc about this fake movie that has been set up just for the sake of fucking with this one brain-damaged dude. According to the back story, the guy is a brain damaged friend of Adam Carolla and Jimmy Kimmel who has been the butt of practical jokes for years. There is some speculation that this whole thing is a work, but if it's not it's one of the cruelest yet hilarious pranks I've ever seen.

Eat Pray Love 7/10
While I'm not a humungous Julia Roberts fan, she did pretty okay in this. I loved the book, and had high expectations for the movie. It's definitely a chick flick and Javier Bardem doesn't hurt the eyes...worth the money.

THE EXPENDABLES 8.5/10
A good, solid action movie with one-liners, rock and roll, blood, Eric Roberts, shit blown up and a lighted pool at nighttime.
Just the way it should be. I only missed Seagal and Van Damme in there.
