The only race I care about is our Congressional race. I'll vote for Gene Taylor who is a blue dog Democrat and an incumbent of many years. He's fought for us more so than our other state politicians over the years. Our GOP governor Hayley Barbur totally sold us down the river with the oil spill crisis. He didn't do shit and LET the oil come ashore to make Obama look worse. He has Presidential aspirations in 2012 but is a cross between Boss Hogg and Pepe Le Pew. In other words, completely deluded. But he let our Gulf Coast get fucked with oil when it could have been intercepted at our barrier islands and with skimmers. He waited 73 days until the oil hit shore, THEN ordered skimmers with money BP paid us.

Taylor is a typical Southern Democrat. He's a hawk and he voted against the Bush Tax Cuts but has continuously voted for increased government spending, military and otherwise. I couldn't vote for him.

Re: How are you planning to vote 11-2-10 D,R,or I
Trust me, he's way better than his Republican challenger, Steven Palazzo. He has at least tried to look out for his constituents in the southern part of the state and on the coast. Our governor Haley Barbour did all right after Katrina, but he fucked us royally in the wake of the oil spill. NO oil had to reach our shores since we have quite a few barrier islands. Skimmers in the passes could have caught virtually all of it.SeminiferousButtNoid wrote:Taylor is a typical Southern Democrat. Gene Taylor has done more for his constituents here than anyone other than Trent Lott. What both of them had in common was that if a constituent came to them with a problem, they would try to help their constituent.

Perhaps. Palazzo seems to be a typical neocon. His website copy looks like it was written by a couple of high schoolers.

I think the gubernatorial election is the only one I can vote in this fall (excluding a few county offices etc. that I never pay enough attention to to cast an informed vote). I'm voting for the Dem. He was a very good mayor. I think he'll make a good governor. I don't care what his party affiliation is.

Honestly. Who could you vote for that are in the mainstream of politics? If they aren't Libertarians then, I assume, they are out of the question. At least you seem to adhere to Libertarianism; I know many who claim to be but they are just Republicans trying to cloak themselves in a different political group, which I suppose, is more of an ideology.SeminiferousButtNoid wrote:Perhaps. It's easier for me to vote Dem/Rep at the state and local level because certain wedge issues don't really come into play. At the national level, there are always a bunch of 3rd party candidates running in my state as well as politicians that don't run the straight and narrow on their party's platform.
My Presidential voting history is all over the place. I voted for the Shrub in 2000 before my politics had been molded, which I regret. I voted for Nader in 2004 because of his integrity and impeccable moral character, even though we differed on many issues, mostly economic. I wrote in Ron Paul's name in 2008.

I probably won't be voting. Although I lean to the left, I'm trying to get away from just voting Democrat because I'm supposed to. If I can be bothered, I might actually bother to look up some of the policies of the runners and see if there are any Independents I like the look of. Maybe I'll give them all a chance to impress me.

So because you don't want to vote for who you're "supposed to" vote for, you're going to help the Republicans win despite personally leaning to the left. How is that logical?MickeyG wrote:I probably won't be voting. Although I lean to the left, I'm trying to get away from just voting Democrat because I'm supposed to. Nah, I'm going to vote for Charlie Crist down here for Senate. I won't bother with anything else until 2012.Hames Jetfield wrote:Even though you disagree with the Republicans on the teachers' issue in Florida?JakeYonkel wrote:Whoever's got an (R) by their name.

Which is why I probably won't vote. If I look up the policies of all the people running, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be voting Republican. But that doesn't mean that some of the Independents wouldn't be interesting to me.Ugmo wrote:So because you don't want to vote for who you're "supposed to" vote for, you're going to help the Republicans win despite personally leaning to the left. I will admit though, I did vote for Douglas in 2008.

Re: How are you planning to vote 11-2-10 D,R,or I
I guess it depends on the situation. If the outcome of a specific race is a foregone conclusion then it doesn't matter who you vote for. But by not voting in a close race you're helping the candidate you identify with less by depriving his opponent of your vote. That's what got us eight years of Bush man! People voting for Nader because they didn't think they liked Gore enough. In a two-party system that's cutting off your nose to spite your face! But I guess in Vermont the Democrats will win whether you vote or not.
Re: How are you planning to vote 11-2-10 D,R,or I
Honestly, the Democrats are not really socialist enough for me.

There are however, politicians who endorse that. Party isn't everything, and depending on the level of government, party can be completely irrelevant.Ugmo wrote:There is no party like that, sorry.Fordtruckman wrote:anybody who is for lower taxes, smaller government, strong military, pro life, right to bear arms and secure the borders gets my vote

Smaller government makes me LOL. When was the last time anyone ever achieved that? "Smaller government" is something candidates say to win over the gullible tea party types, then they get into office and spend just as much money on other shit that they personally prefer to what the previous guy was spending money on.bane wrote:There are however, politicians who endorse that. Strong military, more LOLs. So the guy wants lower taxes but a strong military? Explain how that's possible when the military already eats up so much of the budget.
Pro life - okay, fair enough, there are candidates who will fight for that.
Right to bear arms - why is this even an issue? The Second Amendment will never be repealed. This is a non-issue.
Secure the borders - just as much empty talk as "small government."

Right to bear arms is absolutely an issue dude. There are plenty in government at all levels trying to chip away at that stone. I'm pretty much with you on the rest. I didn't say I agreed with the guy, I just said that there are politicians who endorse those principles.Ugmo wrote:
