Notre Dame renews rivalry with the Miami Hurricanes

Post by fryecreature »

The Catholics vs the Convicts.

Bring back the fatigues.

For almost two decades, it was one of the most pitched rivalries in college football, often defining the national title picture in the late 1980s and featuring a colorful clash of competing orthodoxies.

Two decades after that, Notre Dame and Miami will meet once more, with the shores of Lake Michigan as the backdrop.

Talks the Tribune first reported in May have produced a done deal with a date: The Irish and Hurricanes will play at Soldier Field on Oct. 6, 2012, a Notre Dame source confirmed Wednesday, with a home-and-home series to follow

There will be another respite after the 2012 game, as Notre Dame will play host to Miami on Oct. 8, 2016 in South Bend and then visit South Florida the following season for a Nov. 25, 2017 rubber match of sorts.

The programs met every year but one from 1971 to 1990, when the rivalry went on hiatus. The 1988 and 1989 games were the apex of the series, featuring a No. 1 team in both — with the top-ranked Hurricanes losing in '88 and the top-ranked Irish falling in '89.

The "U," also made a home and home deal with....Toledo!? http://www.toledoblade.com/article/2010 ... 11/7260409
That Toledo was able to pull this off surprised me.

Notre Dame should just play junior colleges, they could go 9-4 then with a few loses at home of course
Jani Lane and Bret Michaels should form a band called "Nelson II"
