Oklahoma Thunder

Post by yeahbuddy »

What you guys really think about this team?
Many sports people think they will go on and do great things.
I dont think so.
Yeah, they gave the Lakers a run for the money. But before that series started, people predicted the Thunder was the only team in the west that could give Lakers problems.
Yeah, Durant is a great player, but he is surrounded by a bunch of young players that are not winners. No veteran leadership on that team.
Also, they were somewhat overlooked last season. This season other teams will see what is coming & go gunning after these guys. It's not going to be an easy season for them at all.

the West is weaker this season, Thunder will be #4 seed. Playofftime 2nd round loser or 3rd for sure

if you have to live in Oklahoma, its a good thing to see and talk about..but its Oklahoma
Jani Lane and Bret Michaels should form a band called "Nelson II"

They're young, super talented and have cap space. Sonics fans just threw up in their mouth.

The best thing that happened to them may not have been Durant. Everyone knew he was going to be cash money. It's Westbrook emerging as a top ten point guard.

i agree...they surprised a lot of people last year...this year teams will be ready for them, and for the reasons u said, they will have a tougher time...this team will be another also-ran like the Jazz, Rockets, etc...making the playoffs every year but not doing much

That's not saying much. As a point guard, you gotta be in the top 5 to mean anything. Is he top 5? Hmmmm, I dont think so.

When the last time you saw an NBA conference finals or league finals? Your team better have either Kobe Bryant or a decent point guard. Ask LeBro.

Let's see-
Top point guards-
Deron Williams
Chris Paul
Steve Nash
Jason Kidd

Can Russel Westbrook hang with any of those? No.
& of those how far did they get?

The more they win, the more money they will have to pay out in the long, thus, preventing them from competing with the big market teams. They will be a blast to watch in the mean time.

The one good thing about the NBA agreement is the home town team can always offer the most scratch. They have the cash to sign their own guys who are all young and very, very good.

As a big Oak City fan these guys are young and hungry. Durant has taken a personal role in the building of this team and the people they pick wanna win ball games. Now they have Cole Aldrich, the young, hungry big man in the post it MAY help them in the ways they needed help.

If this thread by design is to talk down The Durantula and co. and say they aren't a talented team with a possible big future, then you don't know shit about basketball.

This franchise is actually trying to do something.

Just because you are "young & hungry" doesnt mean you know how to win. And if you dont understand that you dont know shit about basketball.
Wasnt Portland supposed to be the next up and coming team? What's happened to them? After two years of being the next "up and coming" team, they have begun to tear the team apart, and try to bring in players they think will make them winners.
The Thunder are in the same boat. What veteran leadership do they have?
Nobody!
What veteran leadership did Portland have?
Nobody!
That's why they brought in Marcus Camby. Camby is a veteran, but he has never won at the professional level, and is a loser. That's why they brought in Andre Miller. Miller is a veteran, but he has never won at the professional level, and is a loser.

Yeah, Portland's the same thing well, except for the injuries and jail time over the years. Oh, and the piss poor leadership too but besides that it's EXACTLY the same.

hey dipshit,
I said Portland was considered the same as the Thunder are now. Injuries & other things hit that team. They had a window of 2 years. Since that window closed, they are trying to rebuild around Roy & Aldridge. You cant count on Oden, and everybody else on that team is a bunch of nobodies.
The window of any NBA team to get into the elite status is 2 maybe 3 years. If it doesnt happen within that time period, it aint going to happen.

Since teams are going to be gunning after the Thunder now, expect injuries & other issues to happen. How do you know they are such a great running organization? Yes, they have a great player in Durant. We will see how the rest of those nobodies play in the coming years.

Portland never had a player as good as Durant. He won the scoring title by half a point over LeBron last season.

True, but wasnt Brandon Roy the next coming of greatness?
Also, Portland had a much better starting lineup & bench.
Also, also, you can include the Chicago Bulls of a few years ago. They were considered an up and coming team. That was even before they got Derrick Rose. What's happened to them?

Well, Durant played at TEXAS and single handedly took them to the Big 12 championship game.

This other fool? He played at the basketball powerhouse known as the University of Washington.

Not the same kinda players. Durant rolls him up like a joint and smokes him.

I knew Roy would be good, but everyone knew Durant would be great. Do you remember any expert saying Portland made the right choice of Oden over Durant? I sure don't.

You must not have been paying attention. Most of the nba pundits said it was the choice that Portland had to make. A big guy like Odeon comes around once every 10 years or so. Looking back now with all the injuries, it's safe to say it was a mistake. But at the time, most nba'ers said it was the right move. Hindsight is 20/20.

Not what I remember hearing. Since we're in the practice of you and I not actually backing up our arguments with what pundits actually said I'll say this. I can't remember feeling this good about a non-number one pick since Grant Hill was taken after Glenn Robinson. Durant is special. Oden at his best will never even achieve Amrae Stoudamire numbers at center. Are you a Blazers fan? Does it sicken you the Bulls were able to draft the greatest player of all-time thanks to the geniuses that run that team? If so, your team's continued short-sightedness made my teenage years and most of my twenties a remarkable time to love the Bulls. Remember that feeling as Durant wins scoring title after scoring title and making the playoffs ever year until he retires. OKC is going to be great for a long time and Durant/Westbrook will be the cornerstones. If you can have two cornerstones.

People would have shit if the Blazer passed on Oden after the season he had at OU. Durant was a lean, slashing small forward that could put up bunches of points in the Big 12 conference, but that wasn't nearly enough to take him #1 overall in the draft. Total hindsight.

Boy, you sure do not know what you are talking about!
I could care less about the Trailblazers. I was using them as an example as to what the Thunder are going to experience. Also, according to you I must be a Chicago Bulls fan as well because I used them as an example as well.
So you wasted an entire space on knocking me for being a Trailblazer fan, and I am not. What a moron you are!
Let me ask you something, if I was a Trailblazer fan, would I have banged on them as much as I have? Absolutely not!
Durant can win all the scoring titles he wants. Why? Because he doesnt have the players around him to pick up the slack. And they can make the playoffs every year. But they will never win because they do not have the horses to do so. It will be just a matter of a couple of seasons until they do what Portland & Chicago & a few other teams are trying to do. And that is bringing in veterans to try to win a title. The problem is that they bring in veterans that are not proven winners.
By the way, I am a LOS ANGELES LAKER fan. Always have been, always will be. The road to the championship goes through Los Angeles. So as Durant wins scoring titles and the Thunder make the playoffs, KOBE and his boys will be winning championships.

Chicago is building a team around their own lucky ping pong ball Derrick Rose, not vets.

You're a Lake show fan and still think Portland made the right choice of Oden over Durant? How old are you that you don't remember Portland missing on not one, but two top fifty all time NBA studs in Jordan and Durant? And both for big men with notoriously bad wheels. Oden was the wrong choice and not just in hindsight.

I hope you've enjoyed the championships Phil has brought to LA. He's the best coach ever in any sport, bar none.
