Berkman finally showed up tonight. I'm torn. I fucking DESPISE the Yanks, but Berkman is one of my favorite players ever. It's good to see him succeed. I guess I'm pulling for a Yanks v Phils series. Fuck.

Berkman's frame reminded me of Kruk once saying, "I'm not an athlete, I'm a ballplayer".

Replay should be for fair vs foul, home run vs in-play, out vs safe, and stuff like check swings.

Again, replay should not be used for balls & strikes, including a check swing. Just can't happen!!

A dedicated "umpire" should be seated in the press box with his own monitor.
That monitor will include the t.v. feeds currently airing on TBS.
He should be allowed to review a play, every single play for that matter.
For example-The posey stolen base. After the play was made, this "dedicated" umpire could have signaled the umpires that he/she needs to review the play.
In about 30 seconds to a minute, the umpire could have informed the umpires the call was missed, change the call, get it right and let's move on.
Plain and simple.

Why Bud and some other ignorant people in MLB continue to say that replay will delay the game up to 5 minutes per is ridiculous.

According to Pitchf/x, the umpire that called the NY/Minn game the other night blew 31 obvious calls. Not only that but his strike zone wasn't even consistent, meaning that a pitch that would be called a ball in one at-bat could then be a strike in another at-bat. He called ball on a pitch to Jeter that was waist high and went down the dead-center of the plate. It's fucking ridiculous that an umpire this bad is working a playoff game.

It's bad enough that the Players Association requested a meeting with MLB regarding the umpiring:

The way to handle this is to hire the umps as employees of MLB and bust the union so that the umps have to follow a consistent set of rules and don't have the benefit of tenure. The good ones stay, the bad ones go.

It's the only way to really fix the situation. If they are responsible to the commissioner(and having a real commissioner is another matter) then they have to call a standardized strike zone. I don't think anyone would feel bad for guys making $150k+ a year having their union broken.

being the Yankee fan, i have been debating which team i prefer wins the game tonight.

i guess when all is said and done, i would prefer to avoid playing the rays.

no matter what, each team is throwing their ace today-which means that pitcher would not be available until game 3 of the ALCS.

the rays won the season series vs the Yankees, 10-8 this year. something about the rays worries me a bit more than the rangers would concern me.
plus, the rays love to steal bases and that could lead to many runs that maybe the rangers would not be scoring.

I think that either ace could go game 2, and 7 if necessary. With a trip to the WS on the line they would.

I personally like the Rays chances at beating the MFY better since they're more familiar with them. On the flip side though NY's familiar too.

Very true.
The number of mental mistakes by the rays defense that led to rangers runs was ridiculous.
I was not surprised how well lee pitched. When the guy pitches in the playoffs, he can not be beat.

Yankees have not yet announced who will pitch Game 2 on the road and Game 3 at home.

If I were to bet, I would guess Pettitte will be the choice to start Game 2. If only for his experience in the post-season.

There's a lot of speculation from Angels' fans that Arte will break the bank to get him here. The more I think about it the more I'd rather have Werth. I think Werth will get a bit less per year and will definitely get a shorter contract. I don't want to have two more years of Crawford when he hits the wall.

There's also speculation that the Angels will go after Beltre. Fuck no, let him stay with the BoSox. I could totally see him coming to the Angels and hitting 15 HR max. His D would be nice, but not at his price.
