I don't think any QB is more punchable than my guy Cutler. At least Manning has the resume to back it up when he's bitching. Cutler is arrogant without the accomplishment.
Julius Peppers is my new favorite Bears defensive player of all-time (RIP Walter). If the Bears win the Super Bowl I'm going to give him my wife.

Re: The COLTS Road BACK To The Superbowl Starts Sunday!!
Jason Cole article on Manning's slump. As I've said before, HOF QB having an off year and not up to his usual standards.
LINK: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=A ... snap113010
Colts’ Manning in midst of arguably worst slump
As Peyton Manning wallows in the worst slump of his Hall of Fame career, there is a fair question to be asked about the greatest thrower of this era:
Does this put a chink in the armor of talk leading up to Super Bowl XLIV that he is the greatest quarterback of his time? Is he clearly behind Tom Brady and about to get passed by the likes of Philip Rivers?
Manning is in a major slump by his lofty standards. Qualifying this slump is important because even at his worst, most coaches would trade some body parts to have the Indianapolis Colts quarterback under center.
“Yeah, you better point that out,” said a head coach from another AFC team, who said he would deal his quarterback and three first-round picks for Manning right now. “And the Colts would still turn me down.”
Fair enough, but what’s going wrong right now?
“There’s no question he’s forcing things right now and he’s not comfortable. Their running game is so bad – way worse than it has been even the last couple of years – that he can’t lean on that and he’s just not comfortable throwing to some of the guys they have. He just looks really out of sync. The first two picks he threw against New England were totally out of character.”
Over his past four games, Manning has thrown nine interceptions. That marks one of five times in his career he has done that (12 is his most in a five-game span). This stretch, with the 6-5 Colts losing all three games in which Manning has been picked, stands out as the worst for a couple of reasons.
Unlike in 2007, which is the last time this happened, Manning has been truly been bad in more than one game. The 2007 stretch happened to be marked by a career-worst six-interception game against San Diego. In the other three games, Manning threw only one interception in each game, making that more of a blip on the radar than a prolonged run of poor play.
The other three times this has happened came in the first five games of his rookie season in 1998 and twice in 2001. In ’01, Manning was without running back Edgerrin James(notes) for most of the season and wide receiver Reggie Wayne(notes) was a rookie in the midst of catching just 27 passes as a complement to leading receiver Marvin Harrison(notes). In short, both Manning and the entire Colts offense were still in the development stage.
This season is different. Manning, who had a four-year stretch from 2003-06 in which he didn’t throw more than 10 interceptions in a season, is in his 13th year. He has seen every situation and studied every defense. There is nothing he hasn’t seen.
Of course, many would argue that Manning is dealing with a ridiculous injury situation. Not only is tight end Dallas Clark out for the year, but wide receivers Pierre Garcon, Austin Collie and Anthony Gonzalez have been in and out of the lineup all season and Wayne is banged up. At running back, the Colts have gone through Joseph Addai, Donald Brown, Mike Hart and even Javarris James. The Colts’ running game is so bad that the team is passing nearly two-thirds of the time (256 rushing attempts vs. 486 passes and 13 sacks).
“They got away with that running game last season because everything else was perfect,” the aforementioned head coach said. “Now, if a couple things go wrong with the receivers, they can’t lean on the running game at all.”
Those are fair points. At the same time, both Tom Brady in New England and Philip Rivers in San Diego have endured plenty of changeover at those positions.
Brady, whose 9-2 Patriots are tied for the league’s best mark, is working with two rookie tight ends (Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski), a new deep threat after the Patriots sent Randy Moss packing and traded for Deion Branch after four games, a second-year receiver who didn’t play last season (Brandon Tate) and another wide receiver (Wes Welker) who is still coming back from a significant knee injury. In the backfield, the mainstays from last year (Kevin Faulk and Laurence Maroney) have been injured and traded, respectively, and replaced by BenJarvus Green-Ellis and a guy who opened this season on the Jets practice squad (Danny Woodhead).
In San Diego, Rivers basically has had his best deep threat from 2009 (Vincent Jackson) unavailable all season. Antonio Gates, Malcom Floyd, Legedu Naanee and Patrick Crayton have all missed significant time with injuries and rookie running back Ryan Mathews has been hobbled almost all season for the 6-5 Chargers.
Despite those revolving doors, both Brady and Rivers are among the top contenders for the MVP award. Rivers is having a stunning season, averaging an incredible 8.9 yards per pass attempt.
That kind of evidence can change the view of Manning.
“All that stuff makes you think twice,” the head coach said. “Can Peyton adjust when things aren’t perfect? Most years, things have been perfect. This year is different. But, like I said, I’ll take him. If he walked in my office door this minute, he’d be starting for me on Sunday.
“[Expletive], who am I kidding, if he walked in five minutes before the game, he’d be starting.”

I don't think it's the beginning of the end for Manning so much as it is a bad season. Pretty much all the great QBs had at least one down season in the middle of their run before they started to decline. I just think that Manning's game depends so much on preparation and precision that personnel turnover effects him more than most good-to-great QBs.
Swap out his entire receiving core in March and he'll put a couple of them in the Pro Bowl and make his annual run at MVP. But make those changes in October and he won't have enough time to get in sync with them. Give him time to prepare and have a defense throw plans A, B, & C at him and he'll pick them apart. Don't give him enough lead time to get comfortable with his timing and then throw him a complete curve on defense and he looks baffled. Doesn't happen often, but there are a few defenses out there such as the Chargers for years and the Patriots when they had Ty Law that absolutely own(ed) him.
I still say he'll be near the top of the QB heap over the next 3 years or so before he starts to decline, although he might not be the best or even statistically in the top 2 or 3 in any of those years.
Re: The COLTS Road BACK To The Superbowl Starts Sunday!!
Fair enough, but how did Brady find out about Burress' comment? Did he first hear about from a reporter asking him about it? In front of the cameras faced with that I'm not gonna give him too much shit for coming off a little cocky. I mean, they had been awesome up to that point in the season, and no one was happier than me when they got owned. I'm a Phins fan BTW, and so have no love for Brady, I just appreciate his ability and can't really hate him. I hate Farve far more.johnk5150 wrote:He sounded INCREDIBLY arrogant when he made that comment.MickeyG wrote:He was reacting to a comment from Burress that predicted a guaranteed win for the Giants. Re: The COLTS Road BACK To The Superbowl Starts Sunday!!
Maybe it was just a case of having the question sprung on him. And I like Brady. I thought his and Manning's appearances on Saturday Night Live were both brilliant. A lot of my problem with the Pats that year had a lot to do with the Lickety's on the board at the time. Lickety actually argued with a straight face that the Patriots should have been considered undefeated despite the SB loss.MickeyG wrote:Fair enough, but how did Brady find out about Burress' comment? It's not an excuse but definitely a reason. The Bears are 8-3 because they have a healthy Urlacher and added Washington from Fast Times (Peppers) on defense. You saw what the Bears did last year when Urlacher was gone 15 1/2 games.SkyDog112046 wrote:Yeah, because not a single player on another roster has been injured all season long. The Redskins for instance had 12 players on the IR or questionable going into last week's game with the Vikings and you don't see me whining about it.
Injuries happen ALL THE TIME. Your precious Colts got their ass kicked by the Chargers and it had little to do with the Refs, injuries, or whatever other bullshit your sorry ass has come up with to rationalize it.

Yeah that was pretty devastating. Up till then, I thought for sure the Cowboys were Super Bowl bound.Machado wrote:Cowboys at colts this weekend on FOX.

Hey, I know Garrett is the second coming of Tom Landry and all, but didn't you find that 59-yard field goal try to be a bit of a head scratcher? I would think 4th and 10 would be much higher percentage than a field goal try like that.
Re: The COLTS Road BACK To The Superbowl Starts Sunday!!
The 59 yard field goal was of course a bit of a head scratcher. If I remember correctly, the 3 previous plays were all incomplete passes.Crazy Levi wrote:Yeah that was pretty devastating. Easy to second guess. If Garrett chose to go for it on 4th and 10, he would be been criticized if the play failed to gain the 1st down or resulted in a sack, pick 6 and so on.
Let's make sure of one thing-The kick was long enough. Plenty of distance. Just missed slightly to the left.

I don't think anybody -at least anybody sane- would have "criticized" another shot at 4th and 10.Machado wrote: The 59 yard field goal was of course a bit of a head scratcher. If I remember correctly, the 3 previous plays were all incomplete passes.

How many 4th and 10s have been made in NFL history? I'd guess hundreds. How many 59+ yard field goals have been made? 5?
You got one thing right, it certainly is easy to second guess that call.

Re: The COLTS Road BACK To The Superbowl Starts Sunday!!
I agree, but I don't think it's a coincidence the two best teams (recordwise) in the NFC have the least amount of guys on IR. It also goes to show how good the Packers coaches/GMs are as they're a fucking M.A.S.H. unit and they're doing more than just maintaining.Crazy Levi wrote: Injuries happen ALL THE TIME.
