I would take Joe Morgan over any other 2B in MLB history.johnk5150 wrote:killeverything wrote:

He was such a shitty commentator that it's sometimes hard to remember how good #8 was as a player. Back then guys who played 2B hit 2-3 HR a year, if that. I would certainly rank Morgan 1st in the modern era, but I don't know if I would put him ahead of Eddie Collins or Rogers Hornsby.killeverything wrote:I would take Joe Morgan over any other 2B in MLB history.
The first 2B with 200HR and 500 steals. I would take him over Rogers Hornsby or anyone.
4/56 apparently.johnk5150 wrote:Now the SCORE is reporting the White Sox will have Dunn AND Paulie is staying.
Nothing official yet. Fuck that's a nice 1-2 punch. I'm hearing Dunn wants no part of being a DH, so I guess that means Paulie is retiring his glove.
so the sox will have a platoon behind the plate, instead of resigning victor martinez? i like the sound of that.killeverything wrote:Varitek is returning for 2m plus incentives.

I'm not too sure how I feel about a Tek/Salty platoon, unless the plan is for him to mentor him. Hearing the pitchers speak about the difference between Tek and Martinez ( who they fucked up on letting go IMO ), was pretty large in game calling skills. Remember Tek has caught 4 no-hitters. Tied for most all-time.
Oh yeah and Okijima was non-tendered. God, that guy was fun why he lasted, but the league figured him out. He wanted free-agency last season. I hope he continues to be deceptive in the NL.

how much more did the tigers pay martinez to leave boston?
Is that all? The sox are going to need a career year from one of them and that still might not make up for the offense martinez can provide as an everyday catcher.Machado wrote:4 million.killeverything wrote:Varitek is returning for 2m plus incentives.

If the pitching staff can stay healthy though.....
You also have to remember they're going to upgrade offensively. Plus last season was without Pedroia, Youkilis, Beckett and signing old players like Cameron....while not finally fucking saying "hey you what? That fucking Ellsbury guy isn't going to become who we thought he was."Machado wrote:Is that all? Do the sox have a catcher in the minors that has been tagged, "can't miss"-the catcher of the future"??
Hopefully Boston can pick him up, especially to catch Lackey's starts. I always assumed they were going to make a play for him. Varitek's re-signing kind of fucked that though. Anaheim does have AAA insurance in Ryan Budde if needed.tin00can wrote:In retarded news, the Angels tendered a contract - instead of letting him go outright - to Jeff Fucking Mathis, a historically bad catcher. Every manager has some blind spots and Mathis is Scioscia's biggest one. He keeps talking about how good a defensive catcher Mathis is - he isn't, and statistics bear that out - and how well he handles the pitching staff. What he is, is fucking awful.
This could mean that Napoli is on the trading block and next year the Angels will do yet another catcher platoon with Mathis and Conger. Fuck.

The MFY are in on Crawford now.Is anyone surprised?
Buster_ESPN Buster Olney
whether they could sign Cliff Lee and still stay in the mix for Crawford, who figures to sign for more money than any player this winter.
So that would be 120+ for Crawford, 120 for Lee, 15 ( maybe ) for Pettite, 30 for Rivera, 30+ for Jeter. Basically half a billion dollars a year. And Selig will continue to say there's nothing wrong with the system? God, I hate that fucking team.
I wouldn't. It's been common knowledge for a while now that they've coveted Crawford. With Gardner having tendonitis in his wrist, the pieces are in place. Cashman regards Lee as a special player, so that's two 100m dollar contracts. Like Teix and Sabbathia.Machado wrote:kill-killeverything wrote:Hopefully Boston can pick him up, especially to catch Lackey's starts. I always assumed they were going to make a play for him. take it easy. have a cup of warm chowder.
personally i would be shocked if the Yankees signed both Lee and Crawford. perhaps they want teams to believe they are interested in signing Crawford to raise the stakes just a bit.
Mo did get 30 for two years
Andy might get around 13 for a one year deal
No telling how much Jeter will be paid.

Leave it up to Ronnie to steal the Sox Thunder the day after their biggest FA signing since Albert Belle. Heh...
The Central should be fun to watch next season. Especially with the rumors of Zack Greinke wanting to be traded, preferably to the Twins. A 1 - 2 of Liriano/Greinke is pretty tough. That's a top half of the rotation that could possibly beat the MFY......for two games, then lose the other 3 or 4.Lardbucket wrote:White Sox sign Adam Dunn, re-sign AJ Pierzynski, get the Braves to take Scott Linebrink (only giving them $1.5M of his salary) and by some accounts have a "wink-wink" arrangement for Paul Konerko to return. Not a bad week!
If Konerko comes back and plays 1B most of the time (Dunn is a butcher anywhere on the field), and if Jake Peavy can come back fully healthy, the Sox should contend in the AL Central. Their bullpen's still a little thin without Bobby Jenks and JJ Putz, though - Ken Williams is going to have to try to find an inexpensive bullpen guy and/or hope Chris Sale is for real.

Definitely. He COULD become a major league player. He's done decent in AAA. Unfortunately his WAR lists at -0.1. Nevermind, I just saw his age 31 and it's pretty slim ( without PEDs ) he's going to overcome that.tin00can wrote:killeverything wrote:Hopefully Boston can pick him up, especially to catch Lackey's starts. I'd fucking die if the Angels traded him to the Sox, although if it was for JE I might get over it. Budde is still an unknown, I think Conger will get the b/u spot over him if this goes down.

Wow. I heard 8 hours ago Beltre wanted to stay.Facedown wrote:9:01am: SI.com's Jon Heyman tweets that negotiations about a contract extension will begin shortly, and that Kelly is in fact in the deal. WEEI.com's Alex Speier adds that multiple Red Sox prospects rumored to be in the deal have yet to hear anything from the team about a trade.
So, Beltre is gone and Youk to 3rd, I guess.
