Hell yes it was. It probably would have been a TD anyway, but that TE would have taken a pretty good shot for it if it had happened last year. Whether or not he holds on to the ball is anybody's guess.johnk5150 wrote:It was a sweet ass throw though.bane wrote:
No argument from me on that. Did you see the DBs pull up on that Vick to the TE touchdown last Sunday? There's the new rules in play. That said, headhunting needed to stop. It's unfortunate that they can't seem to find a way of doing it without taking a lot of the oomph out of the game.

Nate Burleson is guaranteeing a win against Chicago Sunday. Maybe the game is only going to be 45 minutes.

Re: NFL 2010 Thread
Some pretty good games yesterday. The league is wide open this year going down the stretch. There just aren't any elite teams, although there are several very good teams. But every team has some flaws.
NFC:
Atlanta has been good but they still look beatable
Chicago looks hot right now and that "D" is playing well but can Cutler keep going without reverting
New Orleans isn't as good as last season and has benefited by playing a lot of crappy teams
Philly can go as far as Vick can take them, but if he gets hurt again they are done
NYG has been jeckyl and hyde so far but when they are on they can play with anyone
Green Bay is getting healthy and Rodgers has been excellent but they have a tough schedule down the stretch
Tampa is better than any team in the west but will lose out on a playoff spot
AFC:
NYJ have won a lot of close games and look like they are built for December but they've also beat a lot of lousy teams and have a tough schedule ahead
New England has looked good. Belichick has done an excellent job in what was supposed to be a rebuilding year, Brady has been sharp as the offense re-tooled, but that defense is a major liability and will be their undoing
Pittsburgh is pretty balanced but has looked beatable at times and seems to depend too much on big plays
Baltimore can't score against good teams. Their defense looks like it can carry them at times but that offense struggles at times.
Kansas City looks like they are going to be playoff team but they are very beatable
Jacksonville is doing just enough to win but if they get into the playoffs they will get trounced
San Diego looked good for a couple of games and then stunk out the joint yesterday. I don't think they are going to get in which is a shame because Rivers is having an MVP season
Indianapolis is done.

Rapistberger's busted nose had me smiling. Can't believe they won. I really can't believe that Harbaugh decided against trying a 50 yard field goal to tie the game. Even with a slight breeze coming in, Cundiff has a ridiculous leg. I'd say that there was a higher pct of making the field goal as opposed to making a first down.

Cutler was fine yesterday. Detroit was able to hang around because the defense had 4 or 5 noticeable brainfarts.SkyDog112046 wrote:

If I am the coach and my QB is Montana or Elway then I'm ok going for it. If I look out there and see "Flacco" on the back of my QB's jersey then I'm going to kick the field goal. Harbaugh really blew that one.WTF wrote:Rapistberger's busted nose had me smiling. Can't believe they won. Cutler has been good so far. But can he keep it up without turning back into the guy who throws as many INTs and TDs? He always seems to have a stretch where he does that.johnk5150 wrote:Cutler was fine yesterday. Re: NFL 2010 Thread
I really don't know what to make of New England this year. That offense is really clicking but that defense has lapses and a good QB can still pick apart that secondary. Their replacement kicker isn't very good and they give up long returns and have lost about 7-8 yards of field goal range.
They've beaten the 3 other AFC teams with the best records but they have also taken huge leads on weak teams only to have them come back on them in the 2nd half. Last night they tore apart the Jets but at the beginning of the 4th quarter Belichick had to gather the entire team around and remind them that the game wasn't over.
I guess at this point they have to be considered the top team in the AFC but they are far from invincible. Home field advantage will be huge for them so they need to finish strong down the stretch and get at least the #2 seed.
As for the Jets, Sanchez was exposed last night. He has led comebacks against inferior opponents but will have trouble against better defenses. I think Pittsburgh and Chicago will both beat them. Belichick gave the blueprint for handling Sanchez last night - move the linemen around up front so he has to worry about protection, show him a soft zone in the middle of the field and then drop linebackers back into coverage. Urlacher and Polamalu should have big games against them.

Re: NFL 2010 Thread
I ran a simulator that I sometimes use to predict the remaining games and see how the playoff picture might look and got these results:
AFC
1. New England 13-3
2. Pittsburgh 13-3
3. Kansas City 11-5
4. Jacksonville 10-6
5. Baltimore 12-4
6. New York 10-6
Wild Card round:
NYJ @ KC = NYJ
Balt @ Jax = Balt
Divisional Round:
NYJ @ NE
Balt @ Pitt
NFC
1. Atlanta 13-3
2. Philadelphia 12-4
3. Green Bay 11-5
4. St Louis 8-8
5. New Orleans 12-4
6. Chicago 11-5
Wild Card round:
Chi @ GB = Chi
NO @ StL = NO
Divisional Round:
Chi @ Atl
NO @ Philly
It only worked out as far as the divisional round matchups. Interestingly enough it has all the wild card teams winning the WC round. The league would love those divisional matchups if they play out that way.
And just for the record, the simulator has Indy finishing 8-8.

Re: NFL 2010 Thread
Who are the idiots that are voting for Peyton Manning for the bro bowl? He is having his worst season ever? In the AFC Rivers, Brady, and Cassel are head & shoulders above Manning this season.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5899361
PHILADELPHIA -- Michael Vick leads Pro Bowl voting 1½ years after he was released from prison.
The Philadelphia Eagles quarterback had 729,838 fan votes, nearly 39,000 more than second-place Peyton Manning, the NFL said Wednesday. Manning topped the balloting two weeks ago.
"I think it's just a credit to everything I've tried to accomplish on and off the field, just working as hard as I can to change things around, be a part of the solution and not the problem," Vick said. "I changed my life and it just goes to show anybody can do it. It's an unfortunate situation, the things that happened, I wish I could go back and change it all. I wish I could take it all back. The only thing I can do is move forward."
It's the latest evidence many fans seem willing to forgive Vick for the vicious dogfighting operation that sent him to prison for 18 months -- and embrace his stunning return to NFL stardom. A backup to start the season, Vick has led the Eagles to first place in the NFC East, accounting for 21 touchdowns and throwing just two interceptions.
"I appreciate my fans, man," Vick said. "Couldn't do it without them. Been very supportive over the last three years. What more can you ask for?"
Manning had 691,146 votes, which led the AFC, followed by New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady (623,074), Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson (591,598) and Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers (547,340).
Online Pro Bowl voting ends Dec. 20. The teams are picked by a vote combination from fans, players and coaches.
Vick, a three-time Pro Bowler with the Atlanta Falcons, pleaded guilty to federal dogfighting charges in August 2007. He was released from federal custody and conditionally reinstated by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in July 2009. But it wasn't clear how much interest teams would have in the quarterback who once wowed fans with his unique skills, yet frustrated them with his inconsistency when he last played in the league in 2006.
The Eagles signed him before last season, when he was the third-string quarterback and had limited playing time as a change of pace. Even after Philadelphia traded away Donovan McNabb, Vick was expected to back up Kevin Kolb. But when Kolb was hurt in the opener, Vick took over and showed a newfound maturity as a passer. Added to his running skills, he's made the Eagles a contender at 8-4.
The Eagles, averaging 28.7 points per game, are the second-highest scoring team in the league, next to only the New England Patriots at 31.6.
"It's a great honor, a great position to be in right now, because I haven't made the Pro Bowl yet, but it's a credit to my coaches, a credit to my teammates, [backups] Mike Kafka, Kevin Kolb, guys who just helped me get through this season," Vick said. "I can't do it without my team, I can't do it without my teammates, I can't do it without the offensive line, [wide receivers] DeSean [Jackson] and Jeremy [Maclin], can't do it without them. I'm just thankful to have these guys in my life, these coaches in my life."
Philadelphia plays at Dallas (4-8) on Sunday.

eagles at Dallas Sunday night on NBC.
any predictions on the game?
will Dallas continue playing the best they have all season or will the eagles pull a pats and destroy them like the jets were destroyed this past week?
despite Dallas winning 3 of 4 with the new coach, i don't want to get carried away and predict a big win this coming Sunday.
even the win at indy caught me by surprise. then again, when the opposing QB plays catch the with defense, that makes the game a lot easier to win.

It's gonna be pretty much the same as the last two games: The opposing QB will found ways to put last minute touchdowns on Dallas defense while Kitna and Co will be scoring several as well. I'm predicting more than 60 points total on the board with the victory defined by less than a touchdown.Machado wrote:eagles at Dallas Sunday night on NBC.

Real teams play out doors and don't have to worry about their roof collapsing. Only pussy teams play inside.
Imagine this line from NFL Classic Films:
"The nice and cozy temperature controlled wind-free Lambeau Field"
Doesn't quite have the same ring as "Frozen Tundra"
And real fans don't mind sitting outside in the cold to root for their team.

I just watched another pathetic performance by the redskins. But I had a great time, sitting in the climate controlled loge on padded leather bar stools with a counter top, being served countless drinks by a waiter and taking advantage of the clean, private bathrooms and complementary buffet.
I guess I'm not a real fan but i would have been a lot more miserable watching this shitty game if I'd been sitting around in the freezing rain for 4 hours.

Re: NFL 2010 Thread
Are Wild Card weekend and Divisional Playoff weekend two of the best sports viewing weekends of the year? Four unopposed games each weekend, 2 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday, and most of the time the majority of those games are competitive. This year WC is January 8th & 9th and Div is January 15th & 16th.
It's almost a let down having only 2 games the following week for the conference finals and then a 2 week wait until the Superbowl.
