Re: NFL 2010 Thread
No doubt. Personally, I'd rate Manning above Brady, but calling Brady "the most over rated player of all time" is Indy fan homerism taken to the extreme. Tom Brady is a bad motherfucker. If you can't see that, you're an idiot. That said, look at the source.johnk5150 wrote:Eli may wind up more overated before he's finished.Rainbow Bright wrote:I would give Terry Bradshaw or Joe Namath that honor way before Tom Brady.poizond13 wrote:Brady= most overrated player of ALL TIME.

The consensus anywhere outside of New England is that Peyton is the better player. Peyton has built his career by carrying this team on his back, making amazing throws, and commanding the game at the line of scrimmage. Brady doesn't come close in this aspect. He's having great success now by basically checking the ball down and letting his midget receivers run with the ball. That isn't hard for a QB to do. Brady= most overrated player of ALL TIME. There's a reason Peyton was the number one overall pick and Brady was taken in the 6th round. Brady is smart and has good intangibles, but his talent level is much, much lower than Peyton's.
Top 10 lists are always subjective unless they are based solely on stats, and even then they can't be considered official when talking about someone being best ever as there are numerous stats that contribute to a player being great and while they might dominate one area they may be deficient in another.
But here are some irrefutable facts:
Tom Brady
14-4 in the playoffs(.778), 3-1 in Superbowls(.750), 3 rings
1 MVP
2 SB MVP
94.9 QB rating
Records held - most TD in a season(50), most consecutive home wins(26)
most consecutive multiple TD games without an INT(5), highest single-game completion percentage, regular season or postseason (26/28, 92.9%), most completions in Super Bowl history (career), the highest winning percentage of any quarterback ever during his first 100 starts (76 wins), and the longest streak of games with 3 or more touchdown passes (10 games). Brady is the fourth-fastest player to reach 200 career passing touchdowns (116 games). He is the first quarterback in NFL history to have reached said mark with under 100 career interceptions (he had 88 interceptions). He also helped set the record for the longest consecutive win streak in NFL history with 21 straight wins over two seasons (2003–04).
Peyton Manning
9-9 in playoffs(.500), 1-1 in Superbowls(including the pick-6 that lost the game)(.500), 1 ring
Manning holds NFL records for consecutive seasons with over 4,000 yards passing and the most total seasons with 4,000 or more yards passing in a career.
4 MVP
1 SB MVP
94.9 QB rating
Only an idiot would look at those accomplishments and call Brady the most overrated QB of all time. Most people would look at the comparison and call Brady the better QB because the irrefutable facts say that 3 championships is better than 1.

Brady and Rivers are by far the best AFC QBs this year. I'll be surprised to see any team defeat NE. I expect the Pats to, at the very least, make the Super Bowl this year.
I definitely think Brady > Manning statistically, BTW.

True, but you know if the game is in Minnesota, we will have home field advantage, and not in Indy.
Shame on you for whining about us having one home game in the last four. I'm sure you weren't crying when you were playing at the university of Illinois while SF was being redone.

20 years from now, Brady will be remembered as one of the greatest QBs in history. Hell, 2000 - 2012 or so will probably be referred to as the Brady/Manning era.

Home field doesn't matter to the Bears. They suck at home. I was thinking more of injuries heading into what could potentially be a one game or more playoff run.NeverSurrender wrote:True, but you know if the game is in Minnesota, we will have home field advantage, and not in Indy.

And back to the rest of the NFL...
Another dominant performance by the Chargers yesterday. All SD need is to beat the Bengals and Broncos while the Chiefs lose one of their remaining three and Rivers and co will have turned 2-5 to 10-6 and a playoff berth.
Even if they do make it, they're not necessarily a Superbowl threat, but I'm not sure anyone in the league is exactly invincible this year (although NE come the closest on the AFC side) so I think there'd be a lot of nervous teams facing them, even given their past play-off failings.
Could all be moot though. If Cassell is healthy, KC have a pretty solid chance of winning out.

Re: NFL 2010 Thread
The ever-dramatic Washington Redskins upset the NFL apple cart once again Friday when coach Mike Shanahan announced Rex Grossman as his starter for the rest of the season, beginning with Sunday's game at Dallas.
McNabb will be the No. 2 quarterback against the Cowboys, then drop to No. 3 behind Grossman and John Beck for the final two games of the season.
And after that?
"I also told him," Shanahan said, "that I cannot guarantee him that he will be back next year."
That's how far the 34-year-old, six-time Pro Bowl quarterback has fallen. The player acquired with such fanfare in an April trade -- the quarterback who would do for Shanahan in Washington what Elway did for him in Denver -- is benched in a season in which he has been woefully inconsistent, throwing a career-high 15 interceptions and ranking 25th in the NFL with a 77.1 rating.
McNabb's agent, Fletcher Smith, told ESPN that the Redskins' decision is "disrespectful to Donovan. He has not been more disrespected his whole career than he has this season. It's absolutely ridiculous."
Asked if getting McNabb was a mistake, Shanahan said: "I think there's a lot of mistakes that you make. You really don't know if you made a mistake, but if you do make one, you make it and you go on. What I want to do is evaluate where we're at at the end of the season, then I will tell you if we erred or not."
"I've got to find where Rex Grossman is, where John Beck is. I want a chance to evaluate these guys," Shanahan said. "I told Donovan that there's nothing he could do in the three games that would influence me over what he's done over the last 13 games. I said, 'I'm not sure what I'm going to do in the college draft, if we're able to get the top quarterback in the draft, if there was a young Donovan McNabb or maybe a Sam Bradford, someone like that.' There's a lot of possibilities."
McNabb did not comment Friday, saying "No! No! No!" to reporters as he entered Redskins Park after practice. McNabb's wife abruptly canceled a scheduled interview with The Associated Press in which she planned to promote a charity event involving NFL wives.
Grossman did speak, however, and he's aware that fans and pundits nationwide are ridiculing his promotion. He wants to shut up his critics.
"I think everybody has doubters," said Grossman, who led Chicago to a Super Bowl during the 2006 season but has thrown 33 touchdown passes and 36 interceptions in 31 career starts. "And any situation, until you prove yourself on a consistent basis, you're always going to have doubters, no matter what profession you're in. It's motivation. I'm human. How could you not be motivated to show everybody who's mocking this, or talking on the radio or TV thinking they're smart?
"I'm totally motivated to go out and prove not only to them but myself and my teammates that I'm a bona fide starter in this league and can lead this team to a championship one day."
McNabb was benched only once in 11 years with Philadelphia, and he's already doubled that total with the Redskins in less than one season. Shanahan infamously yanked McNabb for Grossman in the final two minutes against Detroit in October with the game on the line, a stunning decision made even more bizarre by Shanahan's mangled explanations that followed.
Shanahan first said he felt Grossman had a better grasp of the team's two-minute offense, then said McNabb lacked the "cardiovascular endurance" to run a fast-paced drill because of nagging hamstring injuries. Offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, the coach's son, said McNabb had been tipped in advance that the team might go with Grossman; McNabb said he hadn't.
Before the next game, the Redskins gave McNabb a five-year contract extension nominally worth $78 million -- but the only thing it guaranteed was that the quarterback would receive an extra $3.5 million this season. The deal contains a clause that allows the Redskins to cut McNabb before next season with no further financial obligation.
This week, the situation began to take more strange turns.
"People do things for a reason," Cowboys linebacker DeMarcus Ware said. "Grossman could be in there for one play and McNabb could be right back out there, so we've got to be ready to play our game."
Mike Shanahan on Wednesday refused to say who would start Sunday, saying he didn't want to tip off the Cowboys. McNabb said his communication with the coaching staff had improved since the benching; neither of the Shanahans would agree with that. McNabb said he would expect to know by Wednesday if he weren't starting, calling it a matter of "professionalism."
On Thursday, Kyle Shanahan seemed to go out of his way to avoid praising McNabb while meeting with reporters, but he implied McNabb was still the starter.
Grossman said Friday he had "hints" that something like this was coming, mostly from the way he was being used in practice. Mike Shanahan said he informed McNabb and Grossman of the move Thursday afternoon, and that even Kyle Shanahan didn't know it was coming.
"I knew this was going to be a circus once I talked about this," Mike Shanahan said. "I wanted two good days [of practice], not having a lot of distractions."
The players were told Friday morning. Some said they were surprised by the move, but then realized they shouldn't have been, considering all the turmoil the Redskins constantly generate.
"It's always something new here," tight end Chris Cooley said.
Even the players who have been vocally supportive of McNabb admit the team's losing record doesn't give the veteran quarterback much to stand on.
"As sad as it is, this league is a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately league," cornerback DeAngelo Hall said. "He hasn't won a whole lot of games with us. Coach felt like it was time to figure out if Rex is going to be the guy we keep around here next year."
The Redskins gave up two draft picks -- a second-round choice this year and a third- or fourth-rounder next year -- to Philadelphia for McNabb on Easter Sunday. It seemed curious the Eagles would trade a quarterback to a division rival unless they felt his best days were behind him, but the Redskins couldn't stop gushing, with Mike Shanahan leading the way with comments such as: "People were saying John Elway should retire until he won the Super Bowl."
Grossman was signed this year because he was familiar with the team's new offense and would be able to help teach it to McNabb. Grossman was a backup last year in Houston, where Kyle Shanahan was the offensive coordinator.
In his only appearance this year -- relieving McNabb in the loss to Detroit -- Grossman fumbled while being sacked on his first play, and the ball was returned for a touchdown. He finished the game, going 4 for 7 for 44 yards.
Now he gets another shot.
"I'm throwing him into the briar patch," Shanahan said. "We'll see how he performs."

I think the thing with Grossman is that he is capable of putting together a couple of good starts in a row but that he can't sustain it. He isn't good enough to start but he can come in and be a decent backup. I wouldn't exactly be surprised if he looked bad this week, but I also wouldn't surprised if he came in and lit it up either.

Re: NFL 2010 Thread
He hasn't been able to put together a couple of good series in row the past few years, let alone a couple of good starts. He must have blackmail pics of Kyle Shanahan or something. I can't figure out how that guy is still in the league.SkyDog112046 wrote:I think the thing with Grossman is that he is capable of putting together a couple of good starts in a row but that he can't sustain it. He isn't good enough to start but he can come in and be a decent backup. I wouldn't exactly be surprised if he looked bad this week, but I also wouldn't surprised if he came in and lit it up either.

Re: NFL 2010 Thread
He's retarded. He throws about the nicest deep ball I've seen from a Bears QB, but he makes so many poor decisions it's sick and wrong. I hate him. Saying that he wasn't ready to play against Green Bay in week 17 because he was focused on new year's eve parties instead of the game the year they went to the SB pissed a lot of people off here.SkyDog112046 wrote:I think the thing with Grossman is that he is capable of putting together a couple of good starts in a row but that he can't sustain it. Home field matters to the Vikes.johnk5150 wrote:Home field doesn't matter to the Bears. They suck at home. Shame on you for whining about us having one home game in the last four. I'm sure you weren't crying when you were playing at the university of Illinois while SF was being redone.
I loved the year at U of I. Now I can go to the bathroom at halftime and make it back to my seat before the second half kickoff.

Going for Grossman is a desperation move, and makes it pretty obvious Don is gone next year.
Poor McNabb, never had any weapons to throw too, and had a 3rd down back most of his time in Philly.

If Cassell is healthy, KC have a pretty solid chance of winning out.
back to the nfl or just the AFC West....
