I'm half happy about the Jenks signing. At the worst he's a 2010 version of Pappelbon, but with Paps coming out in the 7th or 8th it's not that bad.

His perpherals have steadily declined over the last 3 years. Check this out.
IP went from 61.2 - 53.1 - 52.2
H went from 51 - 52 -54 (despite lower IP)
WHIP went from 1.10 - 1.28 - 1.37
BB/9 went from 2.5 - 2.7 - 3.1
BAA has gone from .230 - .250 - .260

A lot of that could be contributed to luck. Situations he's had no control over ( aside from BB/9 ). Like his 4.44ERA ( arguably one of the worst ways to guage a pitcher's performance next to wins/losses ) which was offset by his FiP at 2.59. This leads me to believe he's in room for some serious improvement.

Like for instance his K/9 has risen. He just seems to me to have been in some pretty unlucky situations. Especially playing in front of a worse defense than what the Mighty Red Sox will put behind him. Considering his FB rate and BABIP. This could be a very good signing, more so thinking about the market right now.

Jenks/Bard/Paps could be pretty lethal. All they need now IMO is a LOOGY and the team is done.

Dinardo? I was happy to see him go, and happy to see his successes in Oakland. I still don't trust the guy, but since he has options it's nice to have someone to call up in case of emergency. At 30 it's very rare to see improvement.

That was taken at Indians' spring training in Winter Haven, Florida (the last year before they moved out to Arizona). My son was born 5 days later so as you can imagine my wife was about to pop.

As we were waiting to meet him he said that if my wife went into labor right then and there we'd have to name the kid Bob in his honor.

I gotta hand it to the guy, he was still getting around pretty well and throwing out first pitches and shit after age 90.

And you really can't say enough about his WWII service. The guy left the game in the middle of his prime - would have won 300 games, EASY.

When asked what the greatest game he won was, he said "World War II."

A 1 inning pitcher for 2 million a year? This is either disgustingly brilliant, or incredibly stupid. I can't figure out which one yet. The price for relief pitchers ( and frankly the selection sucks ) this year is insane.

A 34 year old lefty specialist with poor control. This could be like when they picked up Mike Myers ( specifically to pitch to Ortiz it seems ). Except that Ortiz can't hit LHP anymore and I copied this from another website. Adrian Gonzalez's against him: 3 for 15, 8Ks.

Yankees had no interest in Crawford. Cashman even admitted he met with him to drive the price up for Boston (which evidently worked, to some extent).

Yankees are smart enough to know their current LF is not much of a dropoff from Crawford.

As I've said before, he's a good player, just not $20M per year good. Neither was Werth, but Crawford's a much better player than Werth, for whatever it's... uh.. worth.

He seemed to improve quite a bit both hitting and fielding-wise after a short stint in the minors last season. Maybe he'll have a real breakout year, who knows?

He'll share first-base duties with Adam Lind. They have a combined 85 innings of experience there.

How much of a role did the treatment of Cliff Lee's wife by Yankee fans in the ALCS affect his signing with Philly instead of NY? Certainly if NY had made Lee a ridiculous offer it probably wouldn't have been an issue, but as long as all the offers were reasonably close as it appears they were, how much of a factor do you think it played?
