Having the Super Bowl in Dallas will suck!
1. Berfore we get started I want it understood that all my Sludgeaholics are super cool and I would be proud to have them visit Dallas.
2. The Superbowl is nothing more than someone having a real cool party in your house except you're not invited!
3. If you're "lucky" you might get to service a priviledged drinks and snacks.
4. Most likely though you'll have to contend yourself with watching through the window.

Just hope a certain political figure doesn't show up or expect long waits in security checks.

Re: Having the Super Bowl in Dallas will suck!
Nothing about having the super bowl in your town sucks except maybe the temporary increase in traffic. It brings a shit ton of $ into your town's economy and there's lots of cool shit associated with the game that has nothing to do with the game itself. I took my kids to the "NFL Experience" at the convention center when the super bowl was here. They had a blast.TyrC! wrote:1. 2. What is the "NFL Experience"? In Dallas it's apparantly committing rape and rolling around in drugs knowing that if you're caught in Dallas you won't get convicted but probably get a parade.
4. Seriously, I would be ashamed to be seen at an NFL event and damn sure wouldn't want my kids exposed to scumbags.
5. I am so happy that Dallas didn't go to the superbowl this year. If the real America's team, Green Bay wins I will go crazy with enjoyment.

The Super Bowl is coming to East Rutherford, NJ, in a couple years, and I think that's great. It's a shame the West Side Stadium didn't get built, it would have been amazing to have the Super Bowl 20 blocks from my apartment.
I've always wanted to go to a Super Bowl, so this might be my chance, since I'd only have to pony up the $1500-$2000 for a super bowl ticket and not worry about airfare/hotel etc.

The "NFL Experience" set up is indeed a cool attraction. I think I had as much fun there as I did at the actual Super Bowl in Miami a few years ago, of course that might have had something to do with the freezing rain, the $9 beers, and the nosebleed seats. I swear when the jets did their flyby at the start of the game, I could have reached up and touched them.bane wrote:I took my kids to the "NFL Experience" at the convention center when the super bowl was here. I'm in the same boat. One of things I've wanted to do before I die is to attend a Super Bowl, and I'm now starting to realize the one at the Meadowlands might be my only realistic chance.

If there is a Super Bowl next season, its here in Indy. I might check out a few of the attractions. Hopefully, we won't have typical Feb. weather then. If I could snag a ticket for a decent price, I'd go- depending on who was playing.

1. I love you folks like the illegitimate siblings I've never met. With that said I had just soon watch you guys team up and play a few quarters in a near by park.
2. There seems to be just a little too much ass kissing involved with the whole project.

1. I'm not exactly sure how it works but the NFL does have a fan drawing and there's something like a 1 in 16 chance of getting those magic tickets.DenimAndLeather wrote:Crazy Levi wrote:The Super Bowl is coming to East Rutherford, NJ, in a couple years, and I think that's great. Yes, there is a drawing...but where do you get 1 in 16?!?!?!TyrC! wrote:

There are 70,000 tickets. Of those, maybe 2,000 or so are made available to the general public. You are talking lottery type odds here. 1 in a million is more like it.
The only realistic way for a fan to get tickets is through the aftermarket.
The cheapest ticket on stubhub right now is $2000....which is more like $2300 after fees. Of course it's still 10 days from the Super Bowl...I would guess prices drop as the event draws near.

They were selling for around $500 each outside the stadium in Miami the day before the Colts / Bears game.

Re: Having the Super Bowl in Dallas will suck!
I saw them going anywhere from 500 to 2500 when it was here back in, '03 maybe? I forget what year it was. I can't see spending that kind of dough to watch two teams I don't care about, even if it is the Super Bowl. If my team was in it? Maybe, if I was feeling flush, but otherwise, pass. Two nosebleeds pays a good chunk of a damn nice TV.

Re: Having the Super Bowl in Dallas will suck!
A friend of mine made a bet with his boss and won, netting him 2 tickets and accomodations for the game. Otherwise, I never would have been there. You can't imagine how excited I was though when the Saints made it to the NFC Championship game that year. Instead, we ended up with Colts / Bears. Most of the people I saw buying tickets outside were either Colts or Bears fans that had made the trek without tickets in hand.

Re: Having the Super Bowl in Dallas will suck!
If the Superbowl was in your city and you had tickets but it was two teams playing that you didn't care for would you go or would you sell the tickets?
One one hand going to a Superbowl would be fun, but on the other hand assuming you paid face value for the tickets and could scalp them to fans of one of the two teams for $1500+ each it would be hard to pass up $2500 profit.
Hell, you could pick up a kick ass TV & sound system and throw a hell of a party for that kind of money and you'd have something to show for it after.
But if it's your team playing or you really like one of the teams then you have to go.

Of course I'd go. It's only money, and I'm not broke.SkyDog112046 wrote:If the Superbowl was in your city and you had tickets but it was two teams playing that you didn't care for would you go or would you sell the tickets?

I got a pair of AC/DC at Roseland tickets in 2002 for free. They were selling for upwards of $1500 a pair. I didn't even consider it, and I'm glad I didn't. Had a ball at the show with a good friend.
That's the kind of shit I'll remember when I'm in the hospice, not the $1500 I could have got for nothing.

I wouldn't sell the AC/DC tickets either. But if it was a band you didn't care for , much the same way I am talking about 2 teams playing that you didn't like, I'm thinking most people would sell them.Crazy Levi wrote:Of course I'd go. It's apples and oranges for me - and yeah I know I brought up AC/DC, but hear me out.SkyDog112046 wrote: I wouldn't sell the AC/DC tickets either. I love the NFL - I'll watch monday night football no matter who is on it, and I would guess most of the NFL fans here would to.
Certainly can't say that about all rock bands. If there's a nickelback concert on tv tonight, I certainly won't watch it.
I watch the Super Bowl every year, regardless of who is playing - and so do you!
For me, going to the Super Bowl, regardless of who is playing, would be the same as going to see AC/DC. Going to see the Super Bowl - like going to see a band on AC/DC's level at a small ballroom 7 blocks from my apartment - is a once in a lifetime chance.

WHHAAHHHH!!! I hate the inconvenience of traffic for a few days while visitors pour tens millions into the local economy. WWHHHAAAHHH!!!
You'd better hope the Olympics never come to your town.
Football stadiums don't come cheap, especially when you consider there's only 10 guaranteed events a year, and this is one of those events that help pay for them and that helped attract businesses to the area. And it's not like Jerry Jones is going to throw some luxury boxes on top of the Cotton Bowl and move the Cowboys there.
Of course, this subject has me really frazzled right now since tomorrow they're going to announce the name of a new downtown L.A. stadium (Farmer's Field, for the insurance co.) that has no NFL team, is competing with another shovel-ready football stadium on the outskirts of town, and may never be built.
Anyhow... Those NFL Experience attractions are really a blast. The one I went to was almost 20 years ago (the last time they had a Super Bowl at the Rose Bowl) so I can imagine they're a thousand times better with modern technology.
And I've actually been to a Super Bowl. I went the first time it was in San Diego to cheer on the Broncos and bought a ticket outside after kickoff for $40. Unfortunately, by the time I got in the Redskins' rout was on and Chubby Checker at halftime wasn't exactly the spectacle they promise today.
