I don't know about those rules. The NHL has some weird rules when it comes to player movement. Also, I just looked it up and the Isles don't have 18 players to sign.
Bailey and Okposo should both be re-signed.
Radek Martinek (Guy most likely to be traded)
Blake Comeau (Should stay)
Trevor Gillies- (Goon)
Rob Schremp,(Placed on waivers )
Michael Grabner (He ain't going anywhere)
Zenon Konopka (Hope he stays )
Nate Lawson (Placed on waivers)
Bruno Gervais (BYE)
Jack Hillen (Hope he stays)
i do know Martinek and Konopka are UFAs, and if Snow trades or lets Z leave, there might be a riot. You may have seen a list from December or these RFAs are somewhere else in the system.
Besides Okposo, Grabner and MAYBE Bailey, why would they be in a hurry to sign any of those guys? Z should be re-signed, but he ain't Ryan Kesler.

most of them the islanders will try to re-sign. why? who are they going to replace them with? they had over 19 million in cap space to deal with. they didn't get better at the trade deadline. if they don't have faith with the guys they have i'm afraid they're fucked.

updated yesterday. i forgot brendan witt too.
probably means the contracts haven't been registered with the league yet since they don't kick in until june.
so they signed a couple guys. good for them. that's still off of a list of 18 from this season.
you're too stupid to realize you have a problem here. even if they keep 9 of them that's still 9 roster spots you need to fill. where are they coming from? is the minor system very deep? probably not since the islanders already have a pretty young team. are 9 free agents going to want to sign there? 9? maybe 3 if you throw enough cash at them.
i would think they're going to give qualifying offers to all of their RFAs. can't give up on the young guys. look at grabner. after that i think they may be overpaying for the rest of the roster.

So what exactly is the point of hockey in Atlanta? I watched the Habs/Thrashers game last night and couldn't believe how empty it was. The announced crowd was 11,000, but someone definitely moved a decimal point. The NHL should be embarassed. There were more people at my kid's game last week.
Seriously, Atlanta should not have a hockey team next year.

I said the same thing a month or 2 ago. Even the glass seats are not even half full. They couldn't even support an Ihl team in the 90s, so they give them another NHL team.

Re: The official NHL thread
Saw a few minutes of that game last night and it was shocking to see a 3/4 empty arena with Montreal in town.I bet most of the people there were Habs fans too. It's a real head-scratcher as to how and why the NHL saw fit to put another team there, especially since the first team was a dismal failure. At least when they return to Winnipeg and Quebec City they'll be going back with the comfort of knowing the fans will be there to support their teams through thick and thin..WOLF wrote:So what exactly is the point of hockey in Atlanta? It was a joke to move Winnipeg to Phoenix. At least Colorado cares about it's team. Phoenix doesn't.

You're just just mad about my sig banners. If the Chokenucks could only get one you're telling yourself.

Re: The official NHL thread
You have to keep in mind that those were the days of a weak Canadian dollar and escalating salaries. The Jets (and Nordiques for that matter), sold a lot of tickets, but they didn't reap any financial benefits from their arenas, and had to pay players in US dollars, while taking in Canadian ones that were worth as little as half as much at one point. Those teams couldn't have survived. Now, with the $ at par, new arenas in place, and a different economic reality in the NHL (a cap and some form of revenue sharing), those markets are again viable.NeverSurrender wrote:It was a joke to move Winnipeg to Phoenix. It wasn't a joke to move the Jets; it was just shortsighted to move them to Phoenix, where hockey could be nothing more than a passing fancy.

Re: The official NHL thread
I understand why they moved.
I just thinkin putting them inPhoenix, and putting expansion teams in Atlanta and Florida was stupid.
South and Atlanta are two of the worst sport's cities in America. No rason to think hockey would work there. Phoenix is another. They don't support their teams unless they're winning big. Not gonna support hockey.

I took my friend to the thrashers/rangers game a few weeks back. We took marta (the train) to philips arena. He made me show him the tickets because he was convinced I had the wrong night. We were the only people on the train with thrashers jerseys on. Even when we had to stop at 5 points and change trains. Didn't see a single jersey until we actually got into the arena.

I think the big problem with those three cities, is so many people move to those cities, and already have teams they like.

I could not be happier right now. Lucic kicking the shit out of Brewer then getting the game winner, 7 in a row, Timmy Thomas with a great game, finally a big win at home.. Couldn't be happier.Facedown wrote:Bruins, 7 in a row.

Seriously though, if Washington/Pittsburgh, Montreal, say Buffalo and the New York Rangers are the final 4 seeds in the East, who do you feel safe against if you're a top 4 seed? You're either going against an offensive powerhouse or Price/Miller/Lundqvist. Remember last year? We wound up with 7 vs 8 in the Conference Final.

I have no idea why the ATL has any teams. They don't even sell out Braves playoffs games.WOLF wrote:So what exactly is the point of hockey in Atlanta? Evander Kane was on NHL live and he said they have made great strides in attendance since last year. I'm calling bullshit on that one.
John, I can't remember what year it was, but I was in Atlanta for a Vikes game and the Cubs were playing the Braves in the playoffs and there were more Cubs fans in the bar than Braves fans.

So if Gillies gets 10 games for his for his foearm to the head of Clusterbuck (who had just cheapshooted his teammate), how much does Lucic get for his crosscheck to the head?
i bet none. The NHL is full of shit.

Wish we all have a son of Campbell's on our team.
I'm not sticking up for Gillies either. The ref called the penalty on Clusterfuck. Gillis is an idiot for doing that the first game back, but there is a double standard.

Re: The official NHL thread
And if,IF the Leafs can keep up the pace they've been on since the all-star break I don't think any of the top teams will take them lightly either. They've beaten all of them during the past while and they skated rings around the Flyers last night on the way to a big win, maybe the biggest of the year so far.Reimer's been awesome in net,Phaneuf seems to have finally turned things around & is playing like they hoped he would and Kessel is lighting it up since the Lupul trade. It's been a pretty desolate decade for us Leaf fans but it sure is great to see those kids playing their guts out instead of watching a bunch of old fucks out for a skate. It's still an uphill battle for sure, having to pass two teams with 15 or so games left but there really is some optimism in Leaf-Land for a change.WOLF wrote:

Father aside, Greg Campbell has been awesome this year for the B's. He's under a lot of pressure and constantly asked about shit that has nothing to do with him and he handles it well.NeverSurrender wrote:Wish we all have a son of Campbell's on our team.

A total of 13 games and 100 grand ain't scott free.
Lucic not getting ANYTHING (yet) is scott free.
Who else besides Martin and Gillies desereved to be suspended for the Pens game? Just because the Pens got the shit beat out of them doesn't mean the Isles deserve more suspensions. It takes two to dance. THe Isles weren't fighting themselves out there.
