Hey, Chara didn't get suspended because he doesn't have a prior suspension. How fucking stupid.
The league is a joke. Or at least the people running it are.

The Habs are dealing with this situation like the bitches that they are. It's pathetic. The letter that the owner wrote saying that they were gonna lead the charge or whatever was one of the gayest things I have ever seen in this great sport.

I'm gonna call 911 tonight at the Devils game if one of our players gets hurt and see what happens.

You're right. Doesn't mean Chara shouldn't be suspended though or that the Bruins don't get preferential treatment.LetUsPrey wrote:The Habs are dealing with this situation like the bitches that they are. Re: The official NHL thread
Agreed that people calling 911, criminal investigations, et al is ridiculous. Hell, even Pacioretty, who called out Chara pretty good from the hospital a couple of days ago said, upon his return home, in no way, shape, or form does this belong in the courts, nor does he want to take it there. So hopefully that puts an end to that.LetUsPrey wrote:The Habs are dealing with this situation like the bitches that they are. It's pathetic. I 100% agree with Molson's letter though, and he has enough clout to get things done. This is about to come out of the hands of the GMs and into the hands of the owners. I would applaud if the NHL implemented what the OHL (Ontario Junior Hockey League) did, and make any hit to the head illegal. In that league the rule is applied the same way as the high sticking rule. You, the player, are responsible, you high stick a guy, accidentally or on purpose, and it's a penalty, perhaps suspension, depending on the act. Same thing with head shots. If you touch a guy in the head, accidentally or on purpose, then there's at minimum a penalty, and likely a suspension. Doesn't matter if his head is up or down. You can't touch a guy's head.
Guys are too big, strong, fast these days, and nobody wants to see someone turned into a babling idiot, or even worse killed, by a "hockey hit".
I think Chara did what he did on purpose, and it was far from a hockey hit. More and more NHL'ers are coming out and expressing the same view. Bruins fans will disagree and take the league's view. That's fine, people can disagree. I don't want to see it happen again, to anyone, Bruin, Hab, Thrasher, little kid, anyone.
The saddest thing is that because he didn't even get 2-3 games it opens the door up for frontier justice. You just know, next year, a Hab, is going to go Samuelsson/Neely on Chara, tear up his ACL/MCL, and then this is really going to spin out of control.
Re: The official NHL thread
I thought he should have gotten a few games, and I'm a Bruins fan. Just throwing that out there. I can see why they didn't suspend him, but that freezeframe they showed of Chara with his arm up was reason enough to believe he should have gotten suspended.NeverSurrender wrote:You're right. Practically the same thing happened in the B's/Lightning game the other day. No penalty, no injury, no cops. It only matters when someone gets hurt.

Re: The official NHL thread
I haven't seen much of Gillies as a player but a pregame show last week one of the guys (former Bruin, occasional guest) said something along the lines of this about him:
He's a goon. There is no place in this game for players like him. How many goals does he have? Does he have any? Someone like Shawn Thornton can skate, pass, shoot, score and fight while Gillies can fight, period. The NHL needs to get rid of his type.
Who knows? Maybe the NHL sees him the same way.

That was Mike Milbury, the same guy who once went into the stands and hit a fan with his own shoe.Facedown wrote:I haven't seen much of Gillies as a player but a pregame show last week one of the guys (former Bruin, occasional guest) said something along the lines of this about him:

If a player can get ten more games for something that is a ten percent as bad as what Chara did, just because he is not as good a player, that sets a bad precedent. And I'm not sticking up for Gillies. He is well intentioned, but not very smart.

Actually, it was either Bob Beers or Gord Kluzak. Milbury is on the shows but he wasn't the one who made the comments.NeverSurrender wrote:That was Mike Milbury, the same guy who once went into the stands and hit a fan with his own shoe.Facedown wrote:I haven't seen much of Gillies as a player but a pregame show last week one of the guys (former Bruin, occasional guest) said something along the lines of this about him:

Well, Milbury actually said the same shit.
Like I said, bad precedent. The more the best players can get away with, the more they will try to do.

Re: The official NHL thread
Have they ever considered extending the glass to also cover the space in front of the benches?Obviously the coaches and players would hate it but it could be done.
Put the lower glass like some rinks used to have in the 70's along the front of the benches eliminating the potentially deadly stanchion from play.Make the actual bench spaces deeper for easier player movement back and forth and the doors larger for easier line changes. The change on the fly would be a little harder but it could be made easier by something that's already been discussed - a box, similar to a goalie's crease, around the benches that would make the players safe from a too many men call should the puck touch them as they are going off or coming on.
Max Pacioretty could have easily been killed instantly the other night and maybe it was just a fluke that it didn't happen.Unless the NHL brass gets it's head out of its ass soon with shit like this and various other rules (no-touch icing maybe?) it's only a matter of time before a second player loses his life in an NHL game
Edit:And for the record,I honestly don't think Chara meant to run him into there. It was just an very unfortunate accident made possible by the NHL not considering the worst-case scenario for someone cracking their head into the post

A few days ago? You haven't had momentum in a decade. That would classify as a cold case fileGibsonite wrote:I'm calling the cops too!Someone stole the Leafs' momentum a few days ago! When you have more PIM's and suspension time than actual ice time...you should probably look for another line of workFacedown wrote:I haven't seen much of Gillies as a player but a pregame show last week one of the guys (former Bruin, occasional guest) said something along the lines of this about him:

I don't have a problem with his suspnsion, I have a problem with the idiots not being consistent in their rulings, especially about the Bruins, who the Islanders just beat.Gibsonite wrote:When you have more PIM's and suspension time than actual ice time...you should probably look for another line of workFacedown wrote:I haven't seen much of Gillies as a player but a pregame show last week one of the guys (former Bruin, occasional guest) said something along the lines of this about him:

i don't think jesse the body would even touch that.LetUsPrey wrote:One of the guys from Sportsnet had an interesting view of the incident-
In Pacioretty's case, the smaller Canadiens forward had a running grudge going with Chara. He knew it was there, after opening the feud with an ill-advised shove after his overtime winner by Montreal on Jan. 8. Pacioretty never backed down from Chara, yapping and sparring with the giant Bruins d-man over the course of the next two games.
Now Pacioretty is coming down the wing. The score is 4-0 Montreal, with seconds left in Period 2. He knows Chara wants to crank him. He can see the partition coming.
Pacioretty had every reason to believe he was entering a very dangerous spot, yet he went in there like a defenceman turning his back to the ice, counting on the rulebook to protect him.
ridiculous.

Foubd this and was wondering what you guys thought. I love the idea. I've always though they should do ten 4 on 4 with no SO, but I would take this.
http://mobile.newsday.com/inf/infomo;js ... =1.2753598
"Shootouts/OT. Following up on Brendan Shanahan s research and development camp from August, which used junior players to try out different situations, the GMs may discuss changing the overtime format to four minutes of four-on-four followed by four minutes of three-on-three. The goal is to reduce the number of shootouts, which are back to average yearly levels after being down in the first half of the season."

Last night, despite Leino's Hat Trick, the Flyers coughed up the game in embarrassing fashion. I hope this is just getting the kinks out, because there isn't a lot of time before this shit really matters.
