Good to see you CQ! Obviously WWE has taken Miz in a far different direction than you would have preferred...

They did a LOT of things that I didn't prefer. Most of all, they did away with actual story lines making me lose interest all together.Monty610 wrote:Good to see you CQ! Obviously WWE has taken Miz in a far different direction than you would have preferred...
I went back to watching Mexican soap operas instead.

Re: The New (Spam Free) Never Ending Wrestling Thread
so the Rock can commit to a movie for 5 months, but not WWE?
I love how they showed an add for Extreme Rules before the promo, a YEAR later, ha,ha
is that a good idea to tease the fans with that so far in advance, the causal fan may want to buy a pay per view later this year, they will just say "ill wait for Mania with the Rock"
I hope Cena beats him
Tough Enough is a well put together show, all the talent are big time losers. They tried to cast losers and they did

Didn't catch TE last night...still scratching my head at Rock/Cena next year. In one way, it makes sense, but to announce it NOW?! Hopefully they'll allow for a build up over this year...

How much travel is involved in the average movie?LAglamrocker wrote:so the Rock can commit to a movie for 5 months, but not WWE?
Being on a movie set is usually a lot less work than doing 4-5 shows in 4-5 cities a week. Add in physical wear & tear and you see why so many have tried to get into and stick with movies/TV.
I also doubt WWE wants to open the door to many high paying/limited appearance contracts. Their house show business is bad enough as it is and if they can't get their main stars to show up... well, ask people how bad those old WCW house shows were when the main stars/title holders weren't there and the main events were something like Buff Bagwell vs. Lex Luger and DDP vs. the Kiss Demon.

Jeez...I remember attending a WCW house show. Was around May of 1999 and DDP headlined, but I can't remember who he fought. I think at that time he was playing a heel...Garbageman wrote:Their house show business is bad enough as it is and if they can't get their main stars to show up... well, ask people how bad those old WCW house shows were when the main stars/title holders weren't there and the main events were something like Buff Bagwell vs. Lex Luger and DDP vs. the Kiss Demon.

the only way I can see Rock/Cena at 'mania NEXT FUCKING YEAR keeping people's attention is if one of 'em gets drafted to smackdown( most likely Rock) and they parallel title hunts for a year, culminating in a unified champ being crowned next year.

Re: The New (Spam Free) Never Ending Wrestling Thread
Announcing a (probable) main event a year from now doesn't mean they dwell on that match for the next 12 months and the next 11 pay-per-views. The Rock-Cena match doesn't mean it will be involved in a weekly or even monthly storyline. Storylines and title changes will go on, business as usual.
There are people who travel to Wrestlemania regardless. And a match like that will help them sell a lot of advance tickets/travel packages/Axxess tickets before they even involve a storyline between the two.
I doubt you'll see the Rock more than every couple months before the Royal Rumble. And even then, you don't have to have a title involved to sell the match as an event. 'The Streak' stuff and burying the Del Rio-Edge match to curtain jerking status proves that the world title matches don't need to close/main event the show. Plus people remember the Rock-Hogan match a lot more than the two title matches from Wrestlemania 18. I'm sure if they went back to do some 'manias over again Rock-Hogan and Flair-Michaels would have closed respective those shows.

Re: The New (Spam Free) Never Ending Wrestling Thread
Rock could do WWE for a few months, he doesnt need to do house shows, but showing up weekly on Raw to build an interesting story he could do easy.
Any year the new IC title is the other champion's belt. Some years its World Title other its WWE Belt. Seems like thats how WWE presents it to the fans. So the 2nd place belt always gets a good story and defended at events.
Del RIo will be champ at Extreme Rules, I guess WWE just wanted Edge to have a win at a Mania.

Del Rio I think needs time to mature as a character. Do not give him the title right away. Let him work for it.

I still think he should have taken the IC belt from Kofi Kingston weeks ago, gone into Wrestlemania as a champion vs. champion match to build it up more.ozzyrulz777 wrote:Del Rio I think needs time to mature as a character. Do not give him the title right away. Let him work for it.

I have some comments to respond to and to make of my own, but before I get to that I just want to say that by chance tonight I stumbled upon Bret Hart's Twitter Page and found out that he will be on Staten Island, New York signing autographs on April 16th - I can't tell you how happy that made me - I feel like a little fuckin kid! My family and I used to go to tons of Wrestling events and signings when I was growing up, Bret Hart is one of the only greats who we never got to meet.
I never thought I'd be this excited about something Wreslting related again in my life lol

WWE ANNOUNCES THEY ARE EXPANDING BEYOND WRESTLING, TRIPLE H TAPPED TO DEVELOP TALENTS, WORLD WRESTLING ENTERTAINMENT NAME DROPPED
by Mike Johnson @ 10:12 AM on 4/7/2011
As we reported over the weekend, WWE has dropped World Wrestling Entertainment as their name in an attempt to move past the boundaries of being "just" pro wrestling (that term has also been dropped from their vocabulary).
The company issued the following press release this morning, outlining their future plans, a new marketing tagline (which is actually an old Wrestlemania tag) and the first public acknowledgment of Triple H's new corporate role:
The New WWE® Expands Beyond Wrestling
STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--To better reflect the company’s global entertainment offerings, World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE: WWE) announced today a new business model for future growth, including formally rebranding itself, WWE.
“The new business model of the company better reflects what WWE is all about, being a global entertainment company”
Two key components to WWE’s brand expansion will be the active pursuit to acquire entertainment content companies and the outsourcing of WWE’s core competencies – television and film production, live event production and licensing. As part of the new business model, the company will also focus on the development of new television products including scripted, non-scripted and animated programs, as well as the launch of a new WWE network in the next 12-18 months. The first new program of the brand expansion is Tough Enough®, WWE’s non-scripted program that debuted on the USA Network on Monday.
“The new business model of the company better reflects what WWE is all about, being a global entertainment company,” stated Vince McMahon, Chairman and CEO, WWE. “We will always be loyal to our core business that made WWE a globally known entity, however, the future of WWE will be the addition of new entertainment content opportunities beyond the ring.”
This new rebranding initiative will be highlighted through a national consumer and business-to-business advertising campaign entitled “Bigger. Badder. Better.™” The campaign kicked off at WrestleMania® XXVII on Sunday and will be featured on cable TV, print and online.
In addition to focusing on the expansion of the company, the company will bolster its core business with the launch a new talent development department headed by Paul “Triple H®” Levesque. The new department will put a greater emphasis on worldwide recruitment, training and character development to identify future WWE Superstars and Divas. The first recruit acquired under Levesque’s new department was the signing last month of future WWE Superstar, Sin Cara™, formerly known worldwide as Mistico.

The new department will put a greater emphasis on worldwide recruitment, training and character development to identify future WWE Superstars and Divas.
So they are searching globally (redundantly) to recruit 'non-wrestlers' because they are dropping 'wrestling' from their name to focus more on entertainment.
So WWE will have more wrestlers most of the long-time fans really don't like... like Cena.
To do more generic lame action movies that most people really don't like... like Cena.
Grrrrrrrrreat idea.
Was it Steph and HHH's?

Here's what I don't get - EVERYONE knows that WWE = wrestling. Why are they trying to ditch that? They're making an ass out of themselves...again...
Here's what they should do - hire wrestlers worth a shit, perhaps wrestlers that already have somewhat of a following.
Sin Cara - not a bad move, but if the bastard can't speak, there goes that idea. Then again, they left ol' Hunter in charge...

Re: The New (Spam Free) Never Ending Wrestling Thread
I can't believe this hasn't been widely reported yet... Triple H was supposed to ride out on a horse for his WM entrance, and Taker was going to come out of a coffin that rose up from under the stage. During rehearsals, the horse (with Trips on him) fell through the trap door hiding the coffin. Apparently nobody had thought about testing to see if the door could hold that much weight. Everybody in the building was ordered to immediately leave, which I assume is why this is so hush-hush.
They ended up having to euthanize him after a couple hours of being stuck (the horse, not Triple H). I don't know if the entrance he used had elements of the original horse plan, but obviously they had to change it up.
Man... Owen Hart, Triple H's horse... the WWE and falling don't get along very well.

Hawk was the hardcore partier, not so much Animal. Checkout Road Warrior Animal's new book, it's a fantastic read, just came out.Dawg5man wrote:Has anyone here ever seen the Road Warriors live??
