exitflagger wrote:I've owned a Squier Strat and a Tele and my brother has a Squier Strat right now. The two I had costed A TOTAL of 200 bucks together. They're a quick fix when you've got the jones for a new guitar to fuck around with but don't wanna part with the cash. But I'll never get one again. There are just too many drawbacks to them and they end up bumming me out and making me not want to play.

The one my brother got came from ebay and it came with all kinds of aftermarket shit on it; new trem, nut, pickups, etc., and I warned him to think twice but he got it anyway. He's been trying to ditch it off on people ever since he got it. He owed a friend of his 50 bucks from a gambling debt and he tried to get him to take the guitar instead. No go.

My personal opinion: 4 strings = good; 6 strings = bad
Well it depends. They've made some good ones and some real dogs. My '98 Affinity has a nice 22-fret neck, decent frets 13 years on. The Stagemaster was nice enough that they had to stop making it and instead introduced the Fender Showmaster which is set-neck instead of neck-through but very similar. The year after I got my Affinity Strat they kicked the Affinity back to plywood body and 21 frets because they were actually nicer than the Mexi-Strats in some ways. Since they have applied the same names to different spec guitars you just kind of need to know which ones are okay and which ones suck. If someone was just looking at random I would say go with Yamaha over Squier on low-end guitars. They're more consistent. Generally speaking you have a good point though. If you don't know each model, their basses are better. Their Vintage Modified Jazz Bass for $299 is 80% of a Geddy Lee Jazz Bass for a fraction of the price. And their Vista Series MIJ Jagmasters are basically Fender Japan models with the Squier name,, wheras the current Jagmasters are Made in China. or maybe Indonesia by now, and nowhere near the same guitars.

Yeah the CV and VM Squiers both the bass and guitar lines are pretty good. They do some odd things but are pretty good bang for the buck.

That Jag bass would've been an option, I like the body style, very comfortable.

This sounds strange, but I had my buddy put 4 of my effects in one box. The lasdt one (Boss DD3) is only passing signal, but uneffected. Any idea how to wire that output correctly?

Picked this up on Ebay for $330 about a month ago. Fender Celtic Esquire with carved top, and flat, thin set neck. Plays like an Ibanez. Definitely a shred guitar.

This amp smokes my 5150, probably one of the best amps I've ever owned. The cleans are incredible, and the gain channels are great. The effects loop has separate serial/parallel mode and send/return volume knobs. But the real kicker is the power grid which lets me switch from 10-100 watts on each channel separately. I'm thinking about swapping out the (Groove Tubes)8 12AX7 preamp and 4 6l6 power tubes with some Tung Sols or something else. Any Suggestions?

For the tab book? Absolutely 8) I'd even throw in the amp and the EMG81 for that price.

I've been curious about these for a long time. Have a 5150 I am actually looking to sell, and a Rebel 30 I am liking a lot (now).

What is the distortion like? I like the "ringy" Marshall sound as opposed to the more compressed Boogie sound...

I'm gonna try to describe the tones I'm getting the best I can....

Channel 1 Clean - Fender Champ/ Deluxe Reverb
Channel 2 Clean - Fender Twin
Channel 1 Overdrive - Marshall Super Lead/ JCM 800(w/higher gain settings)
Channel 2 Overdrive - JCM 800/Modern High Gain(5150/Mesa)

Each Channel has a Classic/Modern Switch which changes the Amp tones, Also a contour switch which gives it a "scooped" tone. Also people are doing all kinds of tube swaps to change their tones(from different amp forums)

Her is a link to a demo of the amp

I sent a guy a message on craigslist with a list of trades for one of those...he wasn't interested.

...kinda weird, I offered a TSL and a JCM 800 2203 when he was looking for a JCM900...to my ears, an inferior amp...(also offered the 5150 and Rebel 20).

I'd take the 5150 over the Egnater.

As far as amps, I was looking at these. Kind of interesting, and definitely cheap.

As far as "modding," I asked him about gain, and he said I would need to use a pedal, which I thought was funny, since he said
the ear and the expertise to design just about any circuit on these Vintage Platforms
Duh, then why don't you whip up a gain one?

although he did say the smaller ones in the 15w range are 100-150 bucks.

Bound to sound better than the average Crate for that price.
