Re: Rate the last movie you saw
"My Soul To Take"
5/10 - expected more from this since Wes Craven was involved. wasn't this released in theaters in 3D? the alternate ending would have made it a little better.
"Let Me In"
7/10 - great flick, love the storyline. kind of sick of vampire movies, but this one was pretty original.

Let Me In 8.5 outta 10.
Liked it a lot even though I was dreading the US remake because I liked the original so much. Still could have done without a few things where they had to spell things out/dumb it down for US audiences.

The Swedish version is an excellent movie. Didn't go too much on the US version.John Simon Ritchie wrote:Let Me In 8.5 outta 10.

"Night Of The Demons" - 2010
4/10 - even the wondrous breasts of Diora Baird couldn't save it.
"Easy A"
7/10 - funny stuff, the dialogue between the main character and her parents is HILARIOUS.

Much cooler IMO. More layers, more to think about. The innocence of the kids is much more realized and believable (even though I'm not so sure the US remake wasn't going with a different angle concerning Abby's "motives")alleyrulez wrote:I really need to see the original...John Simon Ritchie wrote:Let Me In 8.5 outta 10.

The Rookie (1990): 7.5 / 10
Fun movie, can't go wrong with Eastwood and younger Sheen. Some good lines, some not so good ones. Loved it.

Um, yeah...except the sex of one of the main characters which basically changes the whole movie.

Okay, here it is (if you haven't seen it and don't wanna know, don't read it)alleyrulez wrote:just say it already.John Simon Ritchie wrote:sleazyrocker wrote:i have no idea what you are talking about...

In the original the 12 year old girl is actually a 200 year old emasculated boy. In the original they show her emasculation scars when she is changing after her shower. This was also confirmed by the Director and in the book.
Oh...and the old guy (Håkan) is a pedo.
"Hammer Films producer Simon Oakes has referred to the project as a remake of the film and later not as a remake, but just as "Reeves' version". The adaptation will stay relatively close to the original, except that it will be made "very accessible to a wider audience". The film also omitted the subplot involving Eli's ambiguous gender."
Someone else answered it much better than I can...
"she's" a castrated male, it's in the book. There are also several threads devoted to the topic on imdb. Eli is, however, played by a girl.
and she's the undead technically. She's a vampire
"The novel presents Eli as an androgynous boy, who had been castrated centuries before by a sadistic vampire nobleman. The film handles the issue of Eli's gender more ambiguously: a brief scene in which Eli changes into a dress offers a glimpse of a suggestive scar but no explicit elaboration. Eli's character is played by a female actress, but also tries to tells Oskar "I'm not a girl" when he asks that Eli be his girlfriend. According to an interview with the director, as the film was originally conceived, flashbacks explained this aspect in more detail, but these scenes were eventually cut"

Re: Rate the last movie you saw
I thought Let Me In was pretty terrible. The previews looked awesome. It had a few good scenes, but overall, I just wanted my almost 2 hours back. I ended it thinking she was Satan, only with a Vampire twist. Huh.

anyway, all those details that you talk about, are not very clear in the original movie, maybe in the book...but not in the movie.

Sorry. Not meaning to vent at you per se. I think it's just my annoyance at everything having to be spoon fed to American audiences. If it's not spelled out for them, or doesn't have car chases, Chris Tucker, or shit being blown up, they don't like it (don't "get it" is closer to the truth) No wonder fucking stupid, mindless action flicks usually do great box office.sleazyrocker wrote:you dont need to be so rude, man, geez....John Simon Ritchie wrote:sleazyrocker wrote:i have no idea what you are talking about...

Re: Rate the last movie you saw
I didn't like how "Abby" was shown when she was vamping out. I actually thought they never should have shown her in feeding mode except in the shadows. I also didn't think the pool scene was NEARLY as amazing as in Let the Right One In.John Simon Ritchie wrote:Let Me In 8.5 outta 10.
Liked it a lot even though I was dreading the US remake because I liked the original so much. Still could have done without a few things where they had to spell things out/dumb it down for US audiences.
But there are some things I liked better. I loved Richard Jenkins. He is an amazing actor. I was initially bummed that they pussed out on the pervo stuff but in the end, I like the Let Me In presentation a lot more. I also thought the kid, "Owen," was fantastic. Just perfect casting. And Chloe Moretz is obviously very talented.
I just think the story would have been better served if it was a little more subtle. It's not a hugely in-your-face movie but there shouldn't have even been a contact lens budget.
