Hearing CBJ gives Voracek, 1st round pick and 3rd round pick for Carter.

I think Philly does well here because it's a salary dump and they're getting a good young player in Voracek and a 1st rounder that could amount to something.

Columbus finally gives Nash someone worth a shit to play with. Good for both probably

True. I just don't think Bryzgalov is worth changing the whole makeup of your team. I know they haven't had an elite goalie in forever, but IMO, Bryzgalov isn't it.

I say this as Versteeg and Regher rumors are out there.

McKenzie says they signed Bryz to 8 years $51 mil. Flyers are not a better team now. Terrible deal too. 9 years for a goalie? Ask the Islanders how those long term goalie deals work out.

Regarding the Flyers moves today, one wouldn't be remiss if they wondered if Chris Pronger played some small part in this, especially concerning Richards. His hatred towards him was said to have rescided some, but who knows for sure? This looks like a move that keeps Pronger happy as well as frees up cap space for Bryzgalov.

It's on Snow's resume, but it has Wang written all over it. I think you guys are still paying Yashin, for real.

The Flyers still have a good nucleas with Briere, Giroux, JVR, and now of course Schenn and Voracek, both of which will be really good, but I'm shocked they moved BOTH Carter and Richards, especially with the cap going up by about 4 million the other day. For sure this is a chemistry/room thing.

Call it a hunch, but I have a feeling that the Flyers will be in on Brad Richards, big time, now. The Rangers were seen as the front runner for Brad Richards, but this needs to put Philly in the mix as well.

Not sure about that, but I do know that early in the 2009-10 season,Pronger let it be known he wasn't happy with Richards taking all the rookies/youngsters out drinking the nights before games. He questioned Richards' captaincy in regards to that.He also had the back of coach John Stevens and thought that Richards was out to get him fired with these antics(Stevens was indeed fired in Dec).

They signed Bryzgalov to a massive/stupid deal.

According to CapGeek.com Simmonds, Voracek, Carcillo and Powe are all RFA's. Leino is a UFA along with O'Donnell and Boynton. They don't have the cap room for BR.

In other words, they have 9 forwards and 6 defensemen and $7.5 to play with. Maybe if they move Versteeg they can get BR.

Kings have a pretty damn good 1-2 punch at center now with Richards and Kopitar.

Figured they'd move one of those guys, but not both. For various reasons, the moves certainly didn't hurt my feelings any. Now...let's see what Bryzgalov can do in the Orange and Black.

Works out as:

Carter/ Richards for 1RDP/2RDP/3RDP/Schenn/Voracek/Simmonds

It's not a bad deal. They turned two guys who were 1st rounders, and already have miles on them, into much more than that asset wise. It's just that they know what they're dealing and can't be sure what they're getting back. Schenn IS supposed to be terrific though, and they have to hope Voracek doesn't become Zherdev 2.0.

I don't HATE the Bryzgalov annual cap hit; it's just the term that's tough to digest.

I still think they have a big move left in them. Carter/Richards were an 11 million cap hit between them. The cap went up by 4 million - so that's 15 million of cap soace made available. Bryzgalov got just under 6 of that. The other guys they acquired, maybe get 3 million between them, if that, so by my calculation they'll have 6 million to play with. Yeah, some guys are due raises, but if they move one more guy they definitely have room for Brad Richards.

Also, I love to see the parade pass by the blustery Brian Burke. Yeah Brian - keep dangling Kadri and Kumelin - everybody's gonna want them. Not! Burke doesn't seem to get that his cupboard is bare. The current team is middling at best, and his best prospects are B-level prospects. He ain't digging out of this hole any time soon.

Apparantly Richards didn't have a good relationship with Laviollette and had a no trade clause that was going to kick in 2012. Looks like Philly got nervous and sided with the coach.

So the Winnipeg team is.... the Jets?

Winnipeg's new NHL team, formerly the Atlanta Thrashers franchise, has decided to resurrect the old Jets name and hire former Blue Jackets coach Claude Noel for its inaugural season.

Though the final decision on the name is up to True North Sports & Entertainment chairman Mark Chipman, spokesman Scott Brown told CBC News the announcement will likely come before the team makes the seventh overall pick in the NHL entry draft Friday night in Minnesota

Once Bettman said True North could have the rights to the name "Winnipeg Jets" at the initial press conference, this was pretty much a done deal. The fans demanded it and after the way they responded with season ticket purchases,it was the least TN could do to show thanks.Keep your customer happy.

Ideally, they would've liked to have "started fresh" with a new name,(for merch purposes),but with a new logo and color scheme, they'll still sell a pile of jerseys, etc.

So is Dale Hawerchuk still the Jets' leading scorer or do those records still belong to the Coyotes? Lol.Stupid move if you ask me,they should have started over. The original (NHL) Jets,as lovable as they were, had a history of underachieving and failure.A fresh start would have been a better idea

he's on the books for 9 million over the next 4 years but he's listed under "buyout" on the cap roster. i have no idea what it means.

Buyout means they can pay him so much money to be free of the contract. i believe they can do that after next year. Like I said, not sure though.

i know what a buyout is. i just didn't know how you alpy it to the cap.

he was bought out for $17.63 million, or two-thirds of the amount left on his contract. that would be paid out over eight years ($2.2 million a year), but the cap hit won't be calculated until the buyout is made. there's four years left.

no idea how to calculate the cap hit. 2.2 million would make sense. but really, if the guy isn't returning it shouldn't count against the cap.

Holy shit

Cap hit on Yashin is $2.2 a year until and including 2014-15

WOW.

I thought my team's owner sucked (he does, big time).

Oh, add a Brendan Witt hit for $800k too.

Even against a major division rivial I find it hard to find funny/like.

Every day that goes by I'm hoping less and less the Rangers sign Brad Richards to some 8 year $8 mil/per contract with a NTC. I feel it coming though.
