I didn't like his behavior, either. My husband and I have argued this issue for years, and I've never been convinced that there's a reason or purpose for it.

GSP was on the mats today at my BJJ academy, super cool guy, he rolled with lots of the guys, including Roger Gracie. Short than I imagined, but must weigh at least 190 at the moment.

While GSP is rolling on the mats, Diaz is competing in triathlons.BD888 wrote:GSP was on the mats today at my BJJ academy, super cool guy, he rolled with lots of the guys, including Roger Gracie. Short than I imagined, but must weigh at least 190 at the moment.

Re: The Never Ending MMA thread
He was there yesterday too with Braulio Estima, Roger Gracie and Lucio Rodrigues. I didn't get the pleasure of rolling with him, but a few friends did. The other day he rolled 4 x 8 min rounds after a 1 hour driling session, and wasn't even breathing hard at the end. His jistz style is very methodical. On his first trip to RGA (I wasn't there), he got tapped in 15 seconds by Roger. This time, they rolled for the full 8 mins, but Roger was just training with him, not really sparring properly. At one point when Roger was on top, GSP grabbed Roger for a kimura, then Roger changed gears and got on top and just squashed him, but elected not to tap him. GSP tapped the other three guys he rolled with, one of which is the guy that injured me accidently, so I am not training today., but I digress. Super cool guy. He's training with all these black belts who are training for the ADCC in Sept.

That must've been cool to watch/be a part of. I wish I was there.BD888 wrote:He was there yesterday too with Braulio Estima, Roger Gracie and Lucio Rodrigues. His methodical style is what makes him such a boring fighter.
When he fought Josh Koscheck he nailed his eye, and just kept jabbing it the rest of the fight. Kos couldnt get past it.
My concern with Diaz is he will get cut, and GSP will keep banging away on the cut until the fight has to be stopped.

Re: The Never Ending MMA thread
I think the Grand Prix was doomed from the start when they didn't have set dates and places. They knew where Barnett would be able to fight so there really are no excuses for the many delays. Not having a set date also gave Overeem a chance to say "hey you guys said October, I won't be ready in September." Now that he's out, how will it look for the winner no matter who it is as people can say "you may have won this but you didn't beat Overeem so your not the champ so who cares?"yeahbuddy wrote:That whole tournament has become a big let down hasnt it?KillDevilHill wrote:Overeem out of the strikeforce GP. Cormier is a world class wrestler but how many guys did he face at Oklahoma State like Big Foot Silva? I guess you could have Overeem fight the winner of The Grand Prix for a unification bout but that's only if Overeem isn't on his way to the UFC side which i could very much see happening.

Just got a copy of ufc 1 this weekend, and I just figured out that Teila Tuli, the sumo guy that got his teeth kicked in on the card, is the same guy from Forgetting Sarah Marshall that gives jason siegel a hug

Re: The Never Ending MMA thread
Anybody watch the Strikeforce fights?
I thought the women's fight was the best fight of the night.
Great submission by Misha Tate.
Fedor/Henderson- isnt it illegal to hit a guy when he is on his knees & hand(s) on the ground? And I thought the fight was ended too early. Fedor was given zero time to defend. The ref was moving in from the first punch that landed to stop it. Thats my take.

It's illegal to use knees, kicks and stomps to the face. Which is too bad, search youtube to watch Aldo giving shogun and wanderlei a run for their money in the head-kicking a downed opponent department.yeahbuddy wrote:Anybody watch the Strikeforce fights?

I also thought that it was an early stoppage but I couldn't watch the replay from a decent angle so I don't know if Fedor went limp or not. I'll try to watch that tomorrow.
Shit all the legends are falling down, but Hendo is like the next Couture or something.

Yeah, I agree with you on Hendo. He sure is a likeable guy isnt he? And he always comes to fight. How impressive was that wrestling move he made when Fedor was banging away on him.
Isnt it funny when UFC fights are over, they have the replays ready to go, but the Strikeforce fights take a day and a half before they show.

Re: The Never Ending MMA thread
Upon watching the replays it seems that maybe Fedor was out for like a split second but woke up and could have recovered.
Herb could have waited a bit more but I can't really bitch about the stoppage.

Not an early stoppage in the Fedor fight. I find myself agreeing with that black referee on every decision after watching replays. He is awesome.

Nice, I don't think that was an early stoppage - not surprised at the outcome at all.

Re: The Never Ending MMA thread
I think was a good, Fedor wasn't out, but he wasn't going to recover from that position. Herb Dean probably saved Fedor a lot more damage
Re: The Never Ending MMA thread
I watched it again- I still think Herb Dean stopped it too early. Fedor should have at least been able to defend. More than likely he would've got plummeled, but the guy deserves the chance of defending. Herb Dean was making his move to stop it from the first punch.
If you go by this example, the Kongo/Berry fight should've been stopped before Kongo was able to pull one out of the hat. Lesnar vs Carwin should've been stopped. Lesnar spent the entire first round getting blasted on.
But then again, I dont see what Herb sees, so he probably made the right call.
I loved the beginning of the fight because the two fighters started at such a pace the announcers couldnt call the fight. They didnt know what to say.
The head of Strikeforce said this was the greatest fight ever for Strikeforce. Maybe because of the two fighters involved, but my vote goes for the Diaz/Daley fight. That was action packed from beginning to end.
Speaking of Daley, he sure didnt show much did he?

Re: The Never Ending MMA thread
I'm no Herb Dean fan, but I'm backing him on this one. Per the rules and guidelines he has to follow as a ref, the stoppage was good.
Having said that, though, I feel for Fedor, because he is one of the few guys who can recover quickly. I think if Dean hadn't stopped it, Fedor had a chance to turn it around. But you can't apply different rules to different fighters.
Or maybe I'm just in denial that Fedor is done...

Re: The Never Ending MMA thread
fedor is my favourite fighter and i think he is p4p the no. 1 or 2 fighter in mma history. but he was knocked out and therefore the fight should end. the only problem i have is that herb dean made the wrong decision. it should have been a KO not a TKO. because the 2 shots Hendo threw to cause the TKO were shots to the back of the head and therefore illegal. so instead of stopping the fight he should have deducted a point.
in my opinion the fight should have been a KO which would make the illegal shots irrelevant.

Seriously, what the fuck does "pound for pound one of the best fighters" and other similar statements mean? I put that in the "it is what it is" category of stupid things said to fill air time.

Tonight's fights- this card was cursed from the start when lineup was announced, and it continued to be as it played out.
Lousy night of fights. The Facebook fights were boring, Spike fights were boring, and the main event fights were weak.
Where was THIS Belfort against A. Silva?
After Bones Jones disposes Rampage, he will take care of Evans as well. Evans might get lucky, but Jones is a bad ass.
You guys like that one fighter's blue speedos? I was laughing at the announcers comments.
Shit, what a lousy night! Glad I didnt pay for it!

Re: The Never Ending MMA thread
I don't know man, I think THAT Belfort showed up against Silva too. He seemed pretty motivated to me and as quick as ever, but that Steven Segall kick (lol) came out of nowhere.
I'm always glad to see Vítor win and I kind of enjoy watching Tito lose so the event wasn't total shit.
The crowd chanting "USA USA" to support the deaf guy was fucking funny to me. Dumbass rednecks.

Re: The Never Ending MMA thread
It cracks me up to see Seagal in A. Silva's crew.
I will say I was impressed Rory MacDonald. That was impressive.
If Sonnen beats Stann, Belfort vs Sonnen, winner of that fight fights
Anderson Silva for a rematch.
And Dana White has put a lifetime ban on blue undies.
